sixflagsmagicmountain
Stop disagreeing with me! Okay, in all seriousness, I do agree with Ryan that way too many people are WAY too quick to judge. It hasn't even been built. I'm withholding judgment until I actually see it built and have a chance to ride it. With that said, I'm looking forward to it. I enjoy GCI's and I'm really happy SFMM is getting a new woodie, we're long overdue. And I have NO problem with it not being a "West coast El Toro". That's not what MM needs right now, this looks to be a solid addition that everyone can enjoy. Step in the right direction IMHO.

sixflagsmagicmountain
^ Yeah, hopefully the conversation moves to something more constructive So who here DOES think that the theming will work? As I said, I personally am going to wait to see it before I judge it, but I think it may work fine. We'll see. At least this gives me a reason to stop lurking the boards and actually start posting again It's been a while.
sixflagsguy5
I think they can pull it off. I liked the Dark Knight, even though most coaster people (and GP) didn't like it that much. Building quality coasters with themes is a new thing for Six Flags, so I think Dark Knight was kind of an experiment. They've learned from their mistakes and they'll fix those mistakes for Terminator and whatever other themed attractions they add this year. sixflagsmagicmountain
^ That's kind of the idea I'm going with right now too. Everyone knows SF has made mistakes, but recently they seem to have learned a thing or two from those mistakes, and have taken good measures to avoid them happening again. Jay and Tim are not idiots, they know what they're doing. I believe it'll be just fine. Innocent until proven guilty, imo.

NYTrojan
All 23 pages in one post! Ready? GO! It's going to suck, it's too short. It's going to suck, it's not big enough The terminator theme doesn't fit a woodie. How can you judge, it hasn't been built yet? Hey at least they're trying to theme it. Complainers suck. Complaining about Complainers sucks (the GNU is Not Unix argument) Lockers suck. (Made you look!) Seriously... I never thought the dude making a little microsoft paint diagram of how he thinks the area should be built would be the person to contribute the most to this topic. Sooooo on that note, what do you think they'll do to theme the area? Most big installations have meant something. With Batman they made the Gotham City Backlot. Riddler = The big mind control thing from Batman 3, some statues, and the ? topiary. Superman = Cave of Solitude and the whole S logo plaza. Do you think they'll do a similar thing with the ride queue? Do you think it'll extend out into Psyclone Bay? Even a little? I was very impressed with what they did with the X line. It's not exactly themeing, but it is a welcome addition to the line.
Crazy4Coasters!
Actually the press release and speculation have been the driving force of this thread
coasterking2981
For all those who said the ride looks too short, its not like GCI had tons of space to work with. MM may own a lot of land, but as far as I know they wanted to keep the coaster mostly within the same area as Psyclone was, and use the rest of the land for obvious future expansion (maybe a B&M Dive Coaster within the next couple of years or so? ). GCI did great with what space they had to use. I wont pass judgement on theming yet, but I will say I cant wait for the ride, Definitely will try to ride it opening weekend
Electerik
Sooooo on that note, what do you think they'll do to theme the area? Well, the concept art shows lights pointed up at the coaster. Maybe not interesting. Or, maybe they'll move around at night, like the big flying killbot things that are always waving their searchlights around. That might be kind of cool. The press release refers to being transported to a desolate future. That area of the park already looks pretty desolate. Throw in some wreckage and viola! As for any new gift shops or eateries right around the ride, they'd have to look somewhat wrecked or abandoned, I should think, in order to fit in. SuperShawn
I'll just say that as rollercoaster addict, yes i'm sad its not going to be the biggest craziest wooden coaster in the world. But it was to be expected as we've known for quite some time the park wanted to add in a bit more family orientated rides and such. I think it will be a good addition that will help round out the parks collection and appeal to those who don't want the biggest extreme insane coasters. I have friends that will now have something of a size they are happy riding at the park instead of sitting on the sidelines waiting everything out. As far as the theming and effects and such, well only time can show us what will be in store for us. But I think what ever effects and sounds and such will do just fine, it can't possibly make the ride worse than if it was just a coaster right. Shavethewhales
Is it possible they'll try to put some sort of finish/paint on the wood to make it seem deteriorated? I have the feeling they're probably just going to throw some junker cars aroud the queue and call it good. After all, the theme here is really meant to be more of an advertisement, not an experience in itself - though hopefully I'm wrong. Maybe when the movie is forgotten, they'll fix it up with a more sensible theme. Still, I'm so, so pleased with this ride. The layout has all the aspects that I've come to enjoy from GCII's - awesome twisty drops, sweet curves, swift laterals, and tons of air pops hidden throughout the ride. It really looks like one of their best creations yet. If only they had some terrain to work with - then it would be perfect.
Ace Of Spades
Again, I've now got to hold my own some 4 pages afterwards. First off, don't call me a "Everything Six Flags does fails" kinda guy, nor the, "Spoiled with top notch coasters to the point when a family coaster just sucks hard" kinda guy. I love family coasters! And looking at the ride itself, it could go great in so many other parks, its shocking. I mean, there are easily a good 20 parks minimum that could use this Woodie. But it's just not for SFMM. It just looks as if it was poorly photoshopped out of a different park and placed here, without any concern of flow or eye-popping-ness. And its not as if it needs to be unspectacular to appeal to families (as repeatedly proved by Disney, Universal, and even Cedar Fair to point), but that's exactly what you guys will argue, that all its flaws, track, theeming, and all, can be answered by the Parrot-like repetition of "It's a family ride! It's a family ride"...And as for the "SFMM is getting a new coaster, you should be ashamed of not feeling uber-excited...", well. the park doesn't need it! I'd actually prefer if they did a touch up job on one of their current rides and put this coaster somewhere else, because its just not needed! It overkill! I've said it before and I'll say it again, The ride is just akward and not what SFMM needs right now. AoS "I Drink Your Milkshake!"
RIP Psyclone
From what I can tell and from what I have heard, El Toro was a fluke. Somehow it was approved, and somehow it was built. Thankfully it was! However, Magic Mountain nor any other Six Flags park is about to get an Intamin pre-fab woodie like El Toro anytime soon. Obviously if one SF park got one next year while MM got this GCI, that would be reason to be a little upset. Once you accept the fact it's not going to happen not only for MM but not for any other SF park, you can be happy about getting a GCI. This is going to be a great addition to the park. It's probably the best all around coaster with the broadest appeal this entire decade at the "Mountain"!

coasterking2981
Does anyone agree that this may end up being the best/most fun coaster at the park? Best? Nah. X2 and Tatsu already have that title. Most fun though? probably
smallish
It's gonna be the best rollercoaster in California. No joke. Of course, it's not like that is any big feat. Also, I like the name. It's like a breath of fresh air from names like "Wildcat" and "Thunder-something".
almightyfire
Now i have seen a couple of people make refernce to Raven. I finally rode it this year and it was lame to me. It was nice I am sure for back in the day but no one will ever say Raven is good after riding The Voyage. Times are different and I just dont believe that for 10 million they couldnt have come up with something a little better than that. It does look nice but not for an extreme park like SFMM. Maybe Darien Lake.

Maybe Darien Lake. OMG, you've got to be kidding me. The LAST thing SFMM wants to be anymore is an extreme park, a safe haven for obnoxious teens, spoiled enthusiasts and overhyped mega rides. Enough already. This is exactly the type of ride the park needed. Other than flat rides, it was the best choice.
nagro5
It does look nice but not for an extreme park like SFMM. I think you're missing something here. Magic Mountain is trying to get away from the whole "Extreme Park" thing. That's exactly why they are building a great ride that is just plain FUN, not thrilling. almightyfire
i am not missing the point. u can go not so scary but add at least another 30 secs to the ride. this looks like a carnival ride. whats up with all these woodies being built no taller than my house? I didnt expect a 200 footer but at least 125 and about 3500 ft with a little more going on.
almightyfire
I stilll dont understand the rational about extreme park and obnoxious teens Cedar Point builds extreme rides and they are garnering more revenue than six flags. I said everyone has different tastes and from reading some of the other posts I am not the only one that thinks this is gonna be a lame ride. I am sure that a lot of you all dont think so and you think a ride that is under 100 ft is gonna keep the riff raff away, I dont get the comparison at all. That doesnt fly with me about extreme park and no spending teens. Maverick and Diamondhead are mega rides and again those two parks do well.
