Six Flags Fiesta Texas (SFFT) Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

From what I understand there was only one Larson loop that had problems and all the other closures were precautionary.

This. Larson builds quality, reliable rides and like any reputable ride manufacture takes all necessary precautions to make sure the rides are safe. No need to chance someone getting hurt and if I recall it's the first time the company has ordered a precautionary closure.

I do agree with others, a Loop would be a perfect addition to the boardwalk. I also wouldn't mind seeing one of the new model HUSS enterprise wheels.

And another point I would like to make, I don't feel like Larson loops are bad additions at all. My only problem with them is that they are marketed as Roller Coasters. If SF would simply market them as a flat ride, I would find that acceptable.

Please forgive me, I simply couldn't resist it

I don't care what they call or market it as as long as they are re-investing into the park and adding new attractions on a regular basis. Thankfully they've been doing just that. Plus it entertains enthusiasts by giving them something to moan, groan, and laugh about. I choose to laugh.

Larson builds quality, reliable rides...

http://www.larsonintl.com/index.html

Outside of the Flying Scooters and drop tower, I challenge you to find me one "quality" ride. They're a fairground company, plain and simple.

The Tilt-A-Whirls are good.

However I think you might be taking the 'quality' part out of context. Do they build high intense high thrill rides for Disney or Universal, no.

Quality can mean a variety of things, in this sense they deliver a solid ride to the Family Entertainment Center and the Traveling sectors of the amusement industry at a reasonable price that doesn't produce a ton of issues. You have to build a quality ride that can withstand multiple tear downs and rebuilds throughout a season. In fact there is a 1980 Larson Superloop listed for sale on Rides4U right now, a 36 years old ride, certainly not built cheaply or it'd be melted down by now.

So when unexpected issues pop up, they take them seriously, like any quality ride manufacturer would do.

They're certainly not flashy, but their rides provide entertainment to millions of people each year.

Without Larson or Chance, the smaller mom and pop FEC's, boardwalks, etc couldn't afford to place new attractions and see a return on their investment.

I'm very surprised by the lack of photo trip reports/reports/reviews/photos in general for Batman. It's a brand new type of ride no one has been on and there's only 15 pages of discussion since the media day. What gives? Enthusiasts just haven't gotten to Texas much this year? Are Fury/Thunderbird/TC/Wicked Cyclone stealing the thunder and leaving this ride overshadowed? Imo, yes.

I agree. I feel like Batman was one of the most over looked new coasters of the season. Everyone is raving about Fury/Thunderbird/TC/WC . . . But Batman is barely getting any love. Those who do post about it seem to be regulars who visit the park often.

With that being said I will admit that Batman, as unique as it is... is not enough to make me want to make the trip back to the park. I would be much more likely to travel to SFMM for TC, and that is 3 times the trip. To me Batman just does not have that "WOW!"... "OMG!" ... "I MUST RIDE THAT!" Factor that TC, WC, and Thunderbird have.

Batman just doesn't seem to be a standout draw. The other coasters getting mentions above are BIG new additions whereas even though Batman appears and sounds like a great addition, it isn't necessarily going to draw crowds from afar. Or at least it appears so. Just my 2 cents.

Batman looks fun and is getting great reviews, but let's face it...it's not a world class roller coaster. It's not a Fury, Millennium Force, El Toro etc; It's a relatively low-cost attraction that just happens to be a lot of fun and somewhat polarizing for the GP. A lot like Yolocoaster, Superman Ultimate Flight, Tempesto etc;

Still a very smart investment on Six Flags part IMO

Well it and Switchback both opened (or still haven't) later than they should have and so they missed out on the Soring Break traffic. I don't get why Batman wasn't open at the start of the season. It's not like winters are bad that far south.

There was a ton of infrastructure work that was done that most people don't know about because that can't see it. That took a ton of time to complete. And while it doesn't get cold, we did get frozen out a bit this year, then the rainy season came, and stayed. For Batman to have been open February 28th, they would had to of started work peak summer, which isn't feasible given where it is and what all they had to do underground while the park is in weekly operations.

Unfortunately some view Batman as a flat ride as it doesn't resemble a traditional coaster. The locals have embraced it and the lines are plentiful. Its one of the few coasters that, outside of a kiddie coaster where you have to make your own fun or flat out just get made fun of, that I thought was super crazy fun. It put a smile on my face and I was hooked . Its certainly a much better ride than that thing in California. (sorry Intamin lovers, even if the ride "were operated like the ones overseas" I would still not care for it's nut crushing seats) Whereas Iron Rattler gives you that OMG WTF feeling where you have the :O look on your face afterwards.

Justice League really hasn't received a ton of attention either, while it's a flat ride and draws 30+ minute queues on a regular basis, its still the most technologically advanced flat ride SF's has ever put in and the enthusiasts don't talk too much about it except to bitch when it goes down for a reset. Thankfully many of those issues have been worked out like we knew they would be.

Went to the park this past Sunday and I'm just getting back to posting some thoughts. This was my first visit EVER and it was probably one of the best Six Flags parks I've been to with my count of only SFA, SFGADV, SFNE, and now SFFT.

We got to the park at 10:20 after driving from downtown San Antonio and were in the gates around 10:35 headed straight for Batman. The ride was cycling empty and was closed with a fun operator running the line outside the building letting everyone know that it was currently closed. We ended up waiting with about 100 other people for it to open and then just shy of 11 the ride opened. It was only about an additional 10 minute wait and we were on.

My thoughts on the ride were that it was insanely fun! Yes it's short, but the ride made us grin and laugh the entire time and that is why we love coasters!

After this we got our first of 3 warm waters............. This was not fun even when we asked for cold water we got warm ones from all different booths 3 different times throughout the day....

We hit Superman next with a 5 minute line. This was a lot of fun as well and the interaction with the surroundings was a lot of fun. Can somebody explain the "shoes most go with you" and rudeness of the operators at SFFT about this rule? I've been on many B&M floorless and inverted coasters that don't have this rule. Is this a Texas thing? I've only ever experienced this working on Tidal Force at Hershey and that was because if the ride needs to evacuate the steps are abrasive to your feet. I'm assuming it's along the same line here?

We hit Iron Rattler next and this was my second RMC. This was a completely different experience than Wicked Cyclone which is really cool to think about. We sat in the 2nd to last row which was absolutely incredible. The air over the hills was amazing. I can't wait to see how RMC keeps changing their style over the years.

After this we hit Road Runner Express which was unexpectedly fun, Poltergeist which felt like it had and extremely slow launch, and then Goliath where we encountered rude ops yelling about shoes again..... I get it people don't listen to you, but don't get nasty and have an attitude over the mic about it....

From here we went to the car and changed quickly before briefly hitting the wave pool and mat racer before leaving. The park was starting to fill up now. We ended up leaving ar 2:15pm. It was a great visit and hopefully another is in the future once a move to Austin happens.

it's a shame you had such a quick trip, as you did miss some of the GREAT flats in the park.

so when you go back, be sure to hit:

Hustler: being inside a giant poolball is different than being inside a tea-cup. there's a reason a "save Hustler" campaign popped up when it was in danger due to Batman.

Frisbee: on the boardwalk -- it offers a great cycle, and swing is pretty high.

Skyscreamer: yes, it's NOT the tallest one in the Six Flags Chain, but being right up against the canyon wall?. . what an experience.

the Train: going UNDER Superman is just amazing.

Bugs Bunny Rapids: Lots of the ride is "hidden" in the air above you, and you didn't notice. And it's themed to Bugs Bunny and the Singing Sword.

Fridays can be a bit busy. I would say around 30 min wait times. Sometimes less for Superman and Goliath.

It's insanely hot at this time of the year, so you might want to consider the waterpark if you can squeeze it in.
