And THAT is why the other night I said I wasn't sold on them removing the headrests despite the audio being removed. When it comes to trains and putting in the effort to go the extra mile for the consumer, you should always set your expectations low. This is ridiculous.

Other factors:

-Incompetence

-Budget cuts

-Low emphasis on costumer satisfaction

 

The hit to capacity from the missing row is a bigger deal than the headrests, but Six Flags never seems to care that much about capacity.

I don't mind them too much, but they rattle, block the view of the track in front of you, and they increase the drag on the trains.

This park is such a disaster. Messed up Superman trains, vibrating Wicked Cyclone cars, and a bone-rattling Goliath train. Why does this park have so many issues with their trains?

Just because something is no longer used an an eyesore that takes away from your experience doesn't mean they're going to remove it.

I've gotta say, I'm not one to complain about restraints - Skyrush rocks, y'all - and I tend to think enthusiasts blow things out of proportion. But, having ridden Bizarro for the first time last year, I can honestly say that those lap bars are absolutely terrible.

 

I expected to rank Bizarro in my top five going in, but I'm not really sure I'd put it in my top ten at this point. Part of that might be that I went on a cold day, so the ride probably wasn't running at full steam - but a large part was just how terribly uncomfortable I was the entire time. Passing off red paint and new cutouts as restoring Superman to its former glory is just plain shady, but that's Six Flags marketing for you. Do the bare minimum, and nothing more.

I don't really care too much about the headrests / not-replaced seats, but the restraints are disappointing.

 

For clarification, my two favorite coasters are Skyrush and El Toro. I think that shows how much more tolerant I am of restraints that many others will decry as "painful". However, I just can't stand the current restraints on Bizarro / Superman. They get jammed so tightly into the middle of my thighs that I'm yelling out in pain at any moment of airtime.

Bizarro' restraints could be better but it's still a great ride. If there's a ride in that park that needs a new (or in this case old) train it's Goliath.

For what it's worth, I never rode it with the old restraints, so I don't have a good frame of reference as to what it "could" be like. That being said, the existing way that the restraints are didn't bother me at all, and this is coming from someone who a) rode it 10 consecutive times in a row this past season and b) isn't exactly a small guy. Shame it's turning out to just be a repaint and retheme, but I don't think it's going to lessen my enjoyment of the ride in the slightest.

Same exact restraints as Millenium Force and Top Thrill Dragster if you've ridden either one, the original intamin tbars were much less restrictive and thinner padding. I personally don't hate the restraints now just the noticeable rattle and the massive speaker headrests from the Bizarro train mods.

Not to get too technical, but MF's restraints and TTD's restraints are quite different. They are both T-bars, but Top Thrill Dragster's is more of a "2nd generation" that form fits the rider a bit better and is angled a little more comfortably.

 

As for Superman...ugh. It will definitely look better, but from the sounds of it, the ride experience will be no different. I guess I could understand keeping the restraints because of all the hassle the park has been through with the incidents, but the headrests and speakers... come on.

I think the way to go is the original T-Bars, first or second gen, like Cedar Point uses. It really worries me about these complaints, as Darien Lake's RoS is getting a new train this year and will reportedly use restraints like Bizarro's (or Superman's). The ironic thing was that how everyone was happy at first because it could mean doing away with the painful side brackets, but this will be worse.

 

Rider comfort should always come first. I wouldn't even care if the Bizarro theme stayed, and the park spent the money instead on fixing up the trains and removing broken features. And this is coming from a person who was a bigger fan of the original theme.

Yeah, for sure... but that had nothing to do with what he was talking about. He's talking about what's important in a multi-million dollar refurb like the ride is undergoing right now. They're not changing the theme back to Superman for the purposes of "enhanced rider safety."

 

And yes I realize there are laws against T-bars here, but there are always modifications that can be made in some fashion.

^^That goes without saying, but Millennium Force and Dragster have been running with those restraints flawlessly for years so I don't think it's relevant to this conversation. The restraints were not the cause of the Superman accident.

 

Also, are we sure about the T bar law or is that a rumor? I think Gotham City Gauntlet and Pandemonium both have T bars.

I was actually wondering this. I assumed it was true because everybody's accepted it for quite awhile now but I think it's a fair point to raise.
