Did you know...the Sky Tower at SFMM was originally supposed to be a Playboy Club in Chicago? When that deal fell through, Newhall Land & Farming and SeaWorld (Magic Mountain's developers) picked it up and had it installed at their new park instead.

Did you know that the Manhattan Express in Las Vegas has trains that are themed to Taxi Cabs, but the station is themed to a Subway Station?

Did you know that the Las Vegas Monorail is the first driverless monorail system in the Nation? And is also the nation's first metropolitan transit system funded entirely through fare box collections and advertising revenue?

John

(Fixed! Sorry about the wrong fact)

John

I may be wrong about this, but I believe Tokyo Disney's monorail holds that distinction. There's a cast member who rides in each one to ensure guests board safely, but I thought they're still "driverless."

Did you know that three rides that were removed from Kings Dominion were relocated to other parks?

1) The Apple Turnover was moved to Carowinds where it was renamed "The Scream Weaver".

2) The Pirate's Flight was bought and moved to Wild World in 1986 to make room for the Shockwave Coaster. Later, Wild World would become Six Flags America in 1999.

3) The Galaxy coaster was also moved to make room for the Shockwave Coaster. According to the Roller Coaster Data Base, the family coaster was bought and moved to the Pavilion at Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

Speaking of moving rides within Kings Dominion:

1) The Scambler has been moved three times: beginning at International Plaza next to the 180 degree theater, then to the old Apple Turnover spot, then at the old Sky Flight area, and finally to a new area in Congo where it's hoping it'll stay put.

2) The Eagle's Flight has not only been moved twice, but also has been repainted and renamed twice. It first began as Parrot's Flight in Congo, then was moved to Wayne's World in 1994 and renamed The Scream Weaver, and finally to its current place as the Eagle's Flight.

And here are a couple more that deals with queuing lines:

1)In the beginning, the queuing lines for the Rebel Yell were much like the Racer at King's Island: enter in the middle and exit on either side. Then in 1994, the queuing lines changed, so now you enter from either side and exit in the middle: just like Thunder Road at Carowinds.

2)When the Grizzly Coaster opened up in 1982, its queuing line ran across the train tracks. An attendant was there to open and close the lines whenever the train is about to approach. When the Train attraction was removed (in 1995 or 1996?), the lines were closed. Last year, the queuing lines were rebuilt and modified to allow the added Go-Karts attraction.

That all the secret history of Kings Dominion I can think of.

Did you know that at MGA/PGA/CGA (whatever you want to call it) in the area where the Whizzer once stood is haunted by a ghost of a little boy believed to be the boy killed in the accident that led to the demise of the coaster. The lower areas of the Log Run have also been reported as haunted by a small boy thought to be the boy involved in the accident on that ride as well.

Did you know?

Carowinds is located upon one of the underground railroad routes ( dont know the accuracy of this one, but it came from a bit higher up, not some random employee)

The carousel is said to be haunted by one of the railroads attendees

Carowinds featured the first river rapids ride, the second launching coaster in the U.S. The second B&M standup, the tallest coaster in the world (thunder road at the time), the first roller coaster to have 4 inversions, and the first second generation drop tower from intamin.

The park used to have two trains, it sold one of them to michael jackson for his neverland ranch.

Did you know that there are three things at Canada's Wonderland using the name "Backlot"? The Backlot Stunt Coaster, the Backlot Cafe restaurant, and "the backlot cafe" - the employee lunchroom.

Actually, it's only 2 things.

The employee cafeteria was changed to "Oscars" when South Side Grille was changed to Backlot Cafe...so that was 2006, I believe. The employee cafeteria has also gone through another name change since then, I believe it's something like Cornerstone.

-Did you know the dragon inside Thunder Run is named. I think it's Herman.

-Did you know that one of the horses on Antique Carousel at Canada's Wonderland is worth something like $500,000? (It's an original, and is named Cesar. It's non moving and can be distinguished by the PTC emblems on it)

-Did you know a few of the rides in Canada's Wonderland have had their names changed (Before Cedar Fair):

Oribiter was Sol Loco and themed to Aztek ruins

Dragon Fire was Dragon Fyre

Wild Beast was Wilde Beast

Nightmares was Knightmares

The Rage was Viking's Rage

Spinovator was Quixtoes Kettles

Thunder Run was Blauer Enzian

-Wonder Mountain is hollow and used as storage space

-There used to be much more waterfalls on Wonder Mountain, a few above the ones in the front, and some along the back and sides

-People used to be able to walk to the top of the mountain and behind the waterfall (paths are still there)

-The GM of the park once had to take a full page ad in all Toronto Area newspapers to put an end to the rumor that the park was moving to Niagara Falls. Unfortunately, to this day, people still ask when the park will move.

And finally one that isn't Canada's Wonderland.

-Dragon Mountain at MarineLand was supposed to have a waterfall partway through the ride that looked like Niagara Falls with a rock cave in the middle where the coaster would fly out.

First, what was Pirate's Flight? I have never heard of it.

Also, "The Eagle's Flight" was also once over Lake Charles. I've seen pictures of it.

Did you know:

That the shuttle loop coaster at PGA became parts for the shuttle loop at SFKK(originally SFGAM)?

That the owner of Knuckleheads in the Wisconsin Dells originally opend up Black Wolf Lodge(now Great Wolf) and Noah's Ark?

Six Flags St. Louis was the last park built by Six Flags?

Six Flags St. Louis had a pet kennel and a petting zoo sponsored by Purina? The petting zoo was the Purina Pet a Pet.

Actually, White Lightnin' was one of six launched rides that opened in 1977 (King Kobra at KD, Tidal Wave at CGA, Screamin' Demon at KI, Loop Coaster at SFNE, Zoomerang at Circus World). Vortex was the third B&M stand-up (preceded by Iron Wolf and CGA's Vortex). Thunder Road is 17 feet shorter than Screamin' Eagle, which also opened in 1976. And Carolina Cyclone was one of four rides opening in 1980 with four inversions (Demon at SFGAm and CGA, Orient Express at WoF).

Did you know that Carowinds used pictures of CGA's Vortex in its 1992 guide?

A rumor was spread through-out worlds of fun employees.

That a new intamin type coaster is going into the back of the pak where fury of the nile is. I just went to worlds of fun last week, btw which was totally awesome, until we got rained on and flooded the park with 3 inches of rain. Oh well!!

Yea but while I was on the boomerang on the back seat, i noticed some contruction going on behind the trees and some sort of track under the tarp. Then right before the ride dropped I saw a building being built, probably a station? I dont know.

I asked one of the ride ops.

"Whats behind those trees?".

He replies"I think its some rollercoaster or somewhat new ride.".

I respond "Do you know who made it?".

He responds "The people who make rollercoasters.".

I respond screaming "No. what manufacture".

He replies "Oh! Um, I think some intamate, or something that starts with an I"

In my mind I scream "Yes!! Finally an intamin coaster!!Hopefully......."

Then I respond"Ok, thanks!" and run off to see my pictures.. But unfortunately, that day the camera was out of order!
