SeaWorld Orlando (SWO) Discussion Thread

P. 277: Arctic-themed flying theater announced for 2025!

Recommended Posts

Looks great. Another reason for me to go back to Orlando (besides seeing a space shuttle launch before 2010) sometime in the next two years.

Anheuser-Busch is extremely good about theming their attractions, so the theming should be nothing short of amazing, although the actual ride itself doesn't seem like it's going to be too intense.

Glad I just renewed our passes

This will be a great addition for Orlando and I'm glad again AB has chosen a coaster no one else has in the area.

So the question is.. Seems like AB does things in 2's here lately.

So anyone wondering if a 2nd flyer might be already in the works/plans for another park in chain?

I hope that they also rebuild the smokehouse restaurant there and make it a large venue like the ones at Busch Gardens Tampa and Williamsburg. They really do need another large sit down restaurant, and though I love the food at Sharks, I also love the BBQ from the other parks!

Looks like Orlando will be the place to be in 2009! Good thing I live here!

This looks fantastic!

I'm a bit gutted it's going to be built next year as I'm flying out to Florida in 15 days (14th June) for the first time since 1999. The last time I visited Seaworld, Journey to Atlantis was being built so I'm expecting quite a few changes

I found this interesting:

Height requirement: 52 inches

Aren't all other B&M's 54 inches?

--Robb

isn't wildfire at silver dollar city 52 inches as well?

Who knows they probably found a way to make it where more "family oriented" I guess

BTW, I want to see the whole layout, did they release them anywhere????

I see they are opening in summer, which is a bummer, I guess they will be doing a lot of work to this ride

For the most part, yes. But at least one other B&M coaster carries a 52" height requirement- Apollo's Chariot at BGE. No clue why either, as all other B&M speed/mega coasters have 54" height requirements.

Wow, this is almost the size of Tatsu-I was expecting something slightly larger than Air-, and it sounds like it might even be better than Tatsu.

That would be like saying Hollywood Dream looks like it might even be better than Expedition GeForce.

Its finally announced! All of the rumors check out true. But what I'm disappointed in is that Sea World isn't going to bring a real manta ray . That would have been amazing to see. I've seen one before at the Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas and it was mesmerizing.

I wonder how soon we will see the layout. I'm interested to see what the 4 "inversions" are and if there will be a pretzel loop.

My guess is a pretzel (the real inversion), a full rollover (one "inversion"), a fly-to-lie ("inversion" into MCBR), and a lie-to-fly ("inversion" into water splash).

I was hoping for a few turns or something to duck into clear, underwater tunnels. But that's not to say I'm dissapointed. Can't wait to see the final product and to ride when I'm back in 2010!

/\ I would say you are correct on the inversion types coasterfreak101 (tyler)

I was wondering what the inversions will be and how they will count them. I really hope that 4 inversions means complete flip overs but I would imagine a couple of them are as you stated lie to fly and fly to lie.

I agree completely. I ate at the smoke house restaurant that they have now, (forget the name of the place) not that good of food and horrible service, hope they rebuild it and make it larger with better service more like what they did at BGT.

If you noticed the second concept art piece the car is flying through a 2 rocks with a waterfall. Maybe that is for the splashdown. The water could come off the wings in there soaking riders.

This thing sounds awesome and I pray someday that I can go back to Orlando and see if this steals the crown from my current favorite coaster, Tatsu.

Its odd that they didnt show us a layout. They always seem to when theres a new coaster from them. O well I hope we get one soon!

By the way what did they do with their website? Thats one of the worst sites why didnt they keep the old one/ It was easier to navigate.

That lower minimum height limit makes me wonder whether the powers high above are trying to make it as accessible as possible. Sounds like the same thing has already been done with Apollo's Chariot at Busch Gardens Europe (and these two parks are in the same chain). It's likely down to the management's decision dependent on who they're targeting the ride at, whilst balancing the legal issues at the same time.

I can imagine for instance that a lot of Disney's bigger rides would have much more restrictive limitations if they were found in any other park, because some of them are really powerful.

Back to the ride itself, it looks really good on paper, and I hope Seaworld can pull it off. I'm not expecting a huge powerful coaster like Tatsu, more like something along the lines of Air, which focuses much more on a gentle feeling of flight, rather than trying to be like a stunt pilot.

Most of the "old school" family thrill attractions at Disney parks (i.e. TOT, BTM) were designed mostly inhouse by WDI. This includes the ride vehicles, so the seats/restraints/etc were designed to meet a specific height requirement (in most cases for Disney in the 40" range).

In recent years, Disney has started ordering more in the way of stock rides from ride manufacturers with proven ride vehicles/restraints. In these cases, the same height requirement stands- at Disney Parks or any other park. Vekoma trains on R&RC have a 48" height requirement just as any other ride with these trains anywhere else. Same holds true for the Mack Wild Maus at DCA, Maurer Spinning Coaster at DSP, etc, etc.

Mate come out to Australia's Great Barrier Reef, we get to swim with them every time we go out to the reef!

But back on topic, the ride loks amazing.

Yeah, I was actually thinking the same thing. Perhaps there are still plans for it, and I certainly hope so. Seems odd to not have at least one, since it is the ride's namesake. I swam with one off the coast of Ft. Lauderdale once, and it was an awesome experience!

I dunno, the video doesn't look all that realistic.......

I can't wait for Manta, too bad I'll be on the west coast by then T_T

I doubt the video is real. Thats too much time on your back and I don't know if you've ever ridden a flyer but I nearly blacked out on Tatsu's pretzel loop. That pretzel after the first drop just seems way too forceful.

I think Air spends quite a bit of time on your back, plus this ride might set the new standard. The video shows more of a half-pretzel after the first drop, but you can't really compare that one to Tatsu since Tatsu is built on the hillside. Tatsu's pretzel is 120+ feet high and I'm sure this one won't be.

It's probably not the real video, but it is odd that this is the only video the person has ever posted on YouTube, it has a similar layout to the concepts and four inversions. Based on my past experience with this stuff, it's probably just coincidence, but you just never know. At least it gives us food for thought.

the ride in the video appears to be pretty similiar to what the concepts art showed. well...what we can see anyway. Looks kinda fun if its true and if so, hooray for no boring pretzel loop. looks unique.
