Schrecken Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 I've only been on Togo and B&Ms, and by far the latter are the best imo. I thought that Shockwave at KD was going to crack my tail bone, so I can't imagine what it would do to unwary male riders. I could see where B&Ms could be uncomfortable in that way, but not as bad as the likes of KD's pile of scrap iron. It will be interesting tosee what the Togo at Canada's Wonderland is like in comparison, since if it was reported to be as bad or worse than Shockwave I I feel I might want to skip the cred. But most everyone says it is much better so I will plan on riding it whenever I get to CW.
gerstlaueringvar Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Have only been on Mantis and Riddler's Revenge so I will go with B&M, even though I think they are all pretty bad
ArizonaGuy Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 I'd say B&M made the best stand up coasters. The only iffy one IMHO was Iron Wolf. My all time favorite stand up is Riddler's Revenge followed by Mantis.
dippindotsguy8 Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 I'll go with B&M. However out of the few I've ridden, I found Mantis to be worst, and Riddler to be slightly more rideable. I tend to prefer the older ones, as the trains are more comfortable for some reason. I actually loved Vortex at CGA.... everything except the first turnaround was really fun.
thrillseeker4552 Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 I've only been on two B&M ones: Riddler and Mantis. I'm probably in the minority, but I like Mantis more. I didn't have a problem at all with head-banging or rattle, but Riddler beats the crud out of me every time I ride it. I've never been a fan of stand-ups in general though.
azza29 Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 I've only been on B&Ms and one Togo, and the Togo was laughably bad so I'll have to go with B&M on this one. Riddler's Revenge and Green Lantern are both pretty good, although I wasn't a big fan of Mantis, Vortex (CGA) or Apocalypse.
beatle11 Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 For me it's a toss up between Intamin & B&M. Intamin would be running away with it if they were more reliable, but as it is, it's a toss up.
3Mutts Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 I have ridden all three models (two B&Ms, one Intamin, one TOGO) and out of all of theses B&M is the best. Both Intamin and TOGO suck equally (the one time I say something bad about Intamin).
Vtafro Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 B&M by default. Thought Skyrider at CW was awful because of the airtime and the turns both being painful. Green Lantern, Riddlers, Scorcher and mantis the best of this awful category imo.
Ccron10 Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 I'll go with B&M on this one even though I never rode an Intamin stand-up. Liked Green Lantern, disliked Mantis, but I hate Shock Wave at KD much more.
MayTheGForceBeWithYou Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Only been on Mantis and Riddler, so B&M wins by default for me.
rcdude Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 The stand-ups I've been on rank as follows: Â Riddler's Revenge SkyRider Green Lantern Mantis Vortex (Carowinds) Shockwave Vortex (CGA) Cobra (La Ronde) Â Since Riddler's Revenge is far better than anything else on the list (and the only one I'd wait 30+ minutes for), I have to go B&M>Togo>Intamin, but SkyRider is easily the best Togo I've been on and is better than most B&M stand-ups. Cobra was not only terrible, but it wins the award as the worst major Intamin coaster I've experienced.
kailisun98 Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Probably B&M. Their stand-ups are mixed. Most are good (Riddler's Revenge @ SFMM), others are terrible (Vortex @ CGA).
Noporian Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Intamin because of shockwave in drayton manor
coasterbill Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 When I was a kid I liked stand up coasters, but now that I'm 6'4 I pretty much hate all of them. Of the four I've ridden, Green Lantern and Mantis are complete hell, Shockwave at KD is bad but not awful... I feel the same way about Riddler and my favorite is probably Vortex at Carowinds only because it's over quickly. I really wish I enjoyed stand-up coasters but I really don't.
cfc Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 I'm not a fan of stand-up coasters in general. Riddler's Revenge and Georgia Scorcher, both B&Ms, are probably the best of the lot, and there are a few decent Togo stand-ups in Japan (particularly at Mitsui Greenland). So, I guess B&M, pretty much by default.
rcjp Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 I've only been on two standups (Mantis and Green Lantern), both B&Ms. Mantis was a rather bad but GL, despite being a bit rough (closer to the back) in parts is a rather nice ride. Yes, my legs did suffer a bit (especially as I had platinum flash pass and rode it twice in a row each time) but I find the experience very interesting and, honestly, would like to see more getting built. So B&M wins by default (also considering what I've heard and read about stand ups in general).
GwaziBSRider1 Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 I've ridden both TOGOs in North America and all but two of the B&Ms. Personally, my favorite is SkyRider at Canada's Wonderland, but I really enjoy Mantis and Georgia Scorcher. I couldn't believe how smooth Georgia Scorcher was when I rode it in September.
djboss302 Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 I've ridden two B&M Stand ups, and they're both in my bottom 5. And my worst coaster experience was a B&M stand up. However, I have yet to ride a TOGO or an Intamin so I can't really say what those are like.
DanM64 Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 I've only been on B&M standups- Iron Wolf, Chang, and Mantis. I really, really, REALLY don't like stand ups! Iron Wolf was easily one of the worst coasters ever in the last 5 years of its operation. Â I guess B&M is the winner by default, though I really don't consider any of those 3 coasters "winners" by any means. Maybe when I visit SFMM or SFOG I'll feel differently, though I doubt it.
MFJorts Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 I've only ridden B&M stand-ups, so I would have to go with them by default. My rankings are as follows: Â 1. Riddler's Revenge - Love this layout, one of my favorite coasters at the park 2. Georgia Scorcher - Smoothest of the bunch, but a bit short compared to some others 3. Mantis - Been a while since I rode it, but I remember enjoying it 4. Vortex (Carowinds) - Easily the worst one due to the restraints and awkward transitions
Aceattack52 Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 ^ Green Lantern at SFGAdv was really bad in terms of roughness and intensity; it was too intense for a standup.
DBru Posted December 4, 2013 Author Posted December 4, 2013 ^See, I would have to totally disagree. I feel like Chang/Green Lantern is the least intense of all the stand-ups. I imagine that B&M built Mantis, realized that it was overly intense, lengthened all the transitions and increased the size of the elements a bit, and the product was Chang. Â For Riddler's Revenge, it seems as if they continued to improve upon that layout.
cal1br3tto Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 ^^Green Lantern did remind me of a Batman in terms of forces, but it was enjoyably intense, rather than painful.
