The Rumor / Crazy Idea Superthread

Recommended Posts

Seeing as Laser has left a huge, empty space at the back of Dorney Park, I recently came up with an insane idea...

What if they could take out some of the parking lot (Leave a space or tunnel for cars that are driving by to get through from under the supports), and maybe build a Flight of Fear-type LIM launched coaster?

Sure, it sounds far-fetched, but another theory is, they could remove Thunderhawk and add a sort of launch coaster into the park's variety (I KNOW, Possesed is a launch coaster...). Not only that, but with how LIM coasters work, perhaps the height restriction can be tweeked to 48 inches, which would allow younger kids to have fun on a launch coaster, seeing as they wouldn't be able to ride Possesed, which has a 54 inches height restriction.

It's just an idea, and honestly, I could see it working at some point or another.

Ok, this is a game changing rumor that was posted to Screamscape this morning.

Park News - (9/7/10) An interesting post has come up at Orlando United regarding the fate of Twister. It seems Helen Hunt was in the park not long ago and dropped in to check out the Twister attraction. At some point in the gift shop afterwards (while buying merchandise) she mentioned that they were preparing to make a sequel to the first film, but the new one would be in 3D. As such, Universal may end up keeping Twister around long enough to take advantage of the hype from the new film and even upgrade it as well.

Let's break this up. Helen Hunt went to Orlando. She went to Universal Studios to ride HER OWN RIDE where she gives a groundbreaking preshow performance. After the ride, she went to the gift shop and bought merchandise from a shop centered around a ride based on a movie that she was in. THEN, she mentioned that a 3D sequel was in the works. This is enough info right here for Universal to say "Let's keep Twister around and get ready to make some changes down the road based solely on Helen Hunt's rumor." Or maybe she was told to ride the ride to prepare for the role again. Is Helen Hunt going to be a method actor and always act like she's in a tornado?

Too much info, but the bottom line is this - I now have a reason to wake up every morning as long as this project remains alive.

I wasn't even aware that the Twister ride still existed! I can't believe it's still around. I remember it being one of my favorite attractions at Universal Studios. And I too, agree. While the story of keeping the ride around is long-winded and convoluted, I'm still satisfied that the ride is going to prevail.

My reasoning for waking up in the morning? Nitro at Six Flags Great Adventure. Ha ha ha ha!

^ I was there last year (early May 2009), and I really liked that attraction. I thought it was extremely underrated and one of the best attractions Universal had. I was extremely disappointed to hear it might be removed, but I really hope that new version comes to fruition!

California Adventure should take the new parachute style ride that opened at Disneyand Paris and open one where maliboomer (still around but not for long) stands.

It would be cool if CA Adventure used the old Who Wants to Be a Millionaire show building for a SoCal version of Rock N' Roller Coaster.

That was one of the orginal ideas for the park, but it was scrapped. Also, it was to be based on the Anaheim band "No Doubt."

Wonder if Disney has any animations/concept art for it lying around...

Still...with the huge success of the other Rock N' Roller Coasters it make you wonder if the project is on a back burner waiting for a good oportunity to open...sort of like the Monsters Inc suspended coaster for Disney Hollywood Studios.

I thought 3 train B&M stand up operation is ideal only on paper! Due to the time it takes to adjusts (and readjust and readjust ) the restraints...

The Mantis crew pumps out trains pretty quickly. Fast times are doable if the crew actually cares and does their job efficiently.

Maybe Chang will run three trains at SFGadv!

I know that Chang for sure had two trains! It had three a long time ago! Usually only ran one train though!

Chang only had 2 trains to start with, the ride could accommodate 3 train operation. When the park purchased Chang it had 2 trains, Chang never had 3 trains.

I like this idea. I hope they put something in that hole eventually.

There's a rumor from Mirabilandia (Italy) that they are planning to add a new roller coaster in 2011. It will be a dueling family coaster made by Preston Barbieri, a small italian manufacturer. From the latest rumors it will be located near Katun in a new section of the park.

I'll post more as soon as it will be confirmed.

I thought of something cool. An Intamin rocket/Strata coaster, where the first time, the launch wouldn't go as fast and would give you a rollback, once it returns forcefully to the launch area then immediately launch the ride faster into the rest of the ride.

^ What are you talking about? Sorry but thats not what i had in mind. I Meant like If kingda ka launched once up the hill but didn't make it all the way up on purpose, then when you hit the brakes, once you stop, IMEDIATLY launch faster up the hill.

It's a cool idea, but it's not feasible - the only option would be LIMs/LSMs, and at that point even one launch would take a crazy-large amount of power. And to launch again, it would take even more power, plus there would need to be time in between launches to recharge and build up the power to send a train down the launch track again. On a smaller scale, maybe like Kanonen (Liseberg), it would work, but nothing too giant.

With LSMs and a Flywheel Inverter, it wouldn't take that much power.
