ernierocker
Sea World San Diego needs this. Funny you should post that. I just found out this ride existed earlier this week. Could be one of the highlights of the TPR Australia trip this year.
cal1br3tto
...I think any new development would be beneficial to SeaWorld California because of their general lack of thrilling attractions as compared to their sister parks. Agreed. While I love to visit SWSD, it currently isn't really on my radar as a "theme park" (in the amusement park sense; obviously it's heavily themed). There's really nothing to draw me back there, but I'd go ASAP for a new coaster!

There's really nothing to draw me back there, but I'd go ASAP for a new coaster! Exactly. I live 15 minutes from the park and haven't gone in over 2 years. The prices are high and there really isn't much to do. I used to go a lot when I was younger, but I generally lost interest. There just isn't much for a coaster enthusiast there. Gmaster562
It would be SO cool, if they transformed the Sky Tower into a drop ride. It would be a 360 foot drop! But thats very unrealistic.

SoCalCoasters
Well...now that the Mack 2012 Sea World Coaster Drawings have surfaced, it seems there is hope for SWSD! http://www.screamscape.com/html/seaworld_california.htm It looks like it is going to feature two launches and a barrel roll! Manta, the supposed name of the ride (boo for lack of originallity) will have Manta themed cars, as expected...

KDcoasterMAN
You know... It would be so cool if Knott's installed a skyjump like that on the Stratosphere Tower in Vegas on the Sky Cabin and make it relevant again!
John Knotts
Heard a rumor today that SFDK will be adding a new coaster to their lineup in 2012. It's suppose to be located right next to the Taz topspin, taking the place of the simulator building/area.

DBJ
Ah, there it is. Thanks for the info! More than I expected. It will be nice to see Sea World get a big attraction for 2012. I am usually pretty impressed with how they incorporate the theme into the overall coaster experience.
robbalvey
Something to keep in mind, and I don't mean this to be a Debbie Downer at all, but SWSD did get this far with a Premiere launched coaster design that also fell through during the design and early development phase. DBJ
Oh wow, didn't know that! I hope it works out for the park. Are they still having problems with the city council?
deathbydinn
All will be revealed soon enough! SeaWorld San Diego plans to unveil a $10 million manta-themed ride and animal exhibit for 2012, according to construction documents. The marine park had been keeping the project under wraps until Web snoops discovered an online bid invitation for a "Sea World Manta Exhibit & Ride Attraction 2012" posted to the McGraw-Hill Construction website. The bid request seeks a general contractor for a "recreational" construction project built from "structural steel" in San Diego. McGraw-Hill's "recreational" category includes casinos, theaters, athletic facilities and -- wait for it -- roller coasters. SeaWorld San Diego officials declined to comment except to say that they plan to make an announcement in early February about a new attraction for 2012. http://www.latimes.com/travel/deals/themeparks/la-trb-seaworld-san-diego-manta-01201111,0,2419003.story?track=rss
montezooma
I am a big proponent of making things right and one of the biggest mistakes that should be made right is to rebuild Opryland. Well check out this: http://www.wsmv.com/entertainment/22337886/detail.html Could Opryland Theme Park Return? Gaylord Spokesperson Does Not Deny Rumor NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- For everyone who misses the Opryland theme park, there is news that might cheer you up. There is talk that Gaylord Entertainment expanding its business, especially since Nashville's new convention center just received approval. According to the City Paper, a theme park might be part of the plan. A spokesperson for Gaylord on Monday did not deny the possibility. Gaylord closed the Opryland theme park in 1997 and built the Opry Mills shopping center in its place. Let's hope that this rumor soon becomes a reality. It would be the best news of 2011! Mechanic
Heard a rumor today that SFDK will be adding a new coaster to their lineup in 2012. It's suppose to be located right next to the Taz topspin, taking the place of the simulator building/area. I hope this pans out. That hill top has been pretty dead since they closed down the motion theatre. Upon momentary reflection, the most recent offerings in the motion theatre weren't anything to write home about either. I'm pretty sure the last time I saw it open was during HOP 2008 when they had a simply ho-ho-horrid Santa movie playing in there.
Airtime&Gravity
^^That would be great news if Opryland was rebuilt, but at the same time, they'd have to work hard to compete with Dollywood. While not real close, Dollywood wasn't that long of a drive(Bias: I'm from Chicago with just one park within a 3+ hour drive), and that park has grown a lot since Opryland closed. I know Dollywood, being in Pigeon Forge, doesn't deal with the traditional regional market economic rules, but Gaylord will have to work hard to differentiate a new Opryland. The Sea Word announcement sounds promising, but with a cost of $10 million, I wouldn't expect that Mack or Intamin launched coaster. Dark Knight cost $7.5 million, which leads me to believe that if it is a coaster, that it'll be a family ride. With that in mind, a spinning coaster such as Bakken's Tornado or a Maurer Söhne coaster would be great.
bgeguy
In regards to the SeaWorld coaster, that $10 million is most likely a lump sum amount that would be paid to the contractor, and not the cost of the designing and manufacturing of the coaster itself. Pablo237
^^ What makes you think SeaWorld (a company who have installed coasters into their parks before) is going get a coaster without a designer? That is a ridiculous assumption to make.

deathbydinn
Universal Studios Singapore has 3 Coasters 5 actually, you forgot Enchanted Airways and Canopy Flyer. ^^ What makes you think SeaWorld (a company who have installed coasters into their parks before) is going get a coaster without a designer? That is a ridiculous assumption to make. Where did he say they were getting a coaster without a designer? Also, doesn't it make more sense that a park that has installed coasters before is more likely to design their own? I think a company that has installed lots of coasters would be more knowledgeable about them and be more likely to choose to design their own than a park that doesn't have any coasters, and hasn't had the experience of creating and installing one before... COASTER FREAK 11
^The parks do not design their own rides. The call a company and tell them what they want, and the company makes it. The park and the company work together till both parties are happy with a design, in fact a lot roller coaster companies are just design firms, and do not manufacture their own rides. They have a they party who does that!
downunder
The ferris wheel operator at Dorney Park told me in 2008 that they were getting an Intamin Pre-fab woodie, still waiting... Though I got told at SFGAdv by a Ride Op they were getting something bigger than Dragster when they saw my Dragster shirt, and they were right with that one in all it's lime green glory.
