Right now I really doubt that Cedar Fair would install any big coaster, maybe they are planning some family style Vertical Drop Coaster if that is possible.

In that case, you're likely wrong. These are the same people that leaked GateKeeper. I'm not saying it's set in stone, but I'm feeling pretty good about it. They didn't remove the theater for nothing, and they haven't been posting pictures of that spot for no reason via social media. A dive coaster would be absolutely perfect for Cedar Point because of it's good reliability and high capacity, it's also quite easy to market. The tallest, fastest, and longest dive machine on the planet! 4 inversions! Another competitor on Insane Coaster Wars... Cedar Point vs Magic Mountain debates raging on for all eternity.

I've said this before, but I just hope these B&M's (Dive, Rou, GK) shorten my wait at Maverick.

I think the easiest record to beat would be as the longest, because so far, most dive coasters are short or at least feel short so a nice long dive coaster would be awesome.

Its Just strange that they are starting so early they didn't close down dt till middle of the summer. And i feel gatekeeper will be much longer then the new dive coaster if they do get one.

If those red dorms are coming down as well...figure the amount of time it will take to clear all that mess as well....site prep etc.

The earlier you get started on a project, the better!

If the memo is correct, it will break all the records I mentioned. It's going to be over 220 feet tall, reach 80 mph, have four inversions, and be right around 3600 feet. So it won't be extremely long but it will have substantially more substance after the main drop than either Shiekra or Griffon.

^^ Gatekeeper will be longer than this coaster. Also worth noting that Cedar Point is going with the 8 across trains instead of the 10 across. Hope that means it flys through these elements

*If* the dorms are razed and the coaster goes into part of that spot, i would hope that the tight curve in the road is straightened out and moved over and rides like the Turnpike and Cadillac cars are saved, but I think Turnpike will be one of our losses.

I also think the newspaper article is legit, for the main fact that the park had a response to it, which they don't do when it comes to rumors and speculation, based on history.

The issue with tearing down Cedars is that you then have to build new dorms. Those employees have to live somewhere. That is a big investment in itself. My guess is that Cedars' days are numbered, but not quite yet.

Knowing that land at Cedar Point is at a premium for them, I could see them tearing it down and building some sort of high rise tower for the employees.

Or just moving them off the peninsula and having them live in the apartments by breakers express.

The commons Dorms are usually full by mid May. The rest of the employees are put into Cedars. Thats maybe a couple hundred employees. They would without a doubt need to add an additional 200ish beds to Commons before they could logistically remove Cedars. Thats not a cheap move for the park, so Im sure Cedars wont be removed until they have an addition worth the extra money to build a new dorm.

However, I can assure you that Cedars won't last another 10 years. Its definately a question of when rather than if.

I know it was inevitably going to happen, but it'll be sad to see all those trees go. I've always enjoyed the marina entrance because it was like going back in time with the old sidewalk lamps, the naked statue, forest of trees, and only a spattering of guests walking back and forth to the gate. I'm not against development at CP by any means, but I do love those big 'ol shade trees.

I've posted this video a few times but I want to get it out to the world so everyone can see it. Any comments about it are helpful too.

Great video, especially love that shot of Maverick at 1:57

I really don't see them putting a dark ride there... I feel like it would block great views of the lake. I feel like them putting it back by Mean Streak would make more sense. It would be a quiet ride that would not hinder the hotel spaces they have on the end of the peninsula.

I'm just going to completely ignore that article. It's nothing worth speculating over. With the dive coaster rumor, there's at least evidence to support it (biggest being the alleged memo) but that article was nothing more than what somebody WANTS the park to get.

Posted

^^^I stopped reading that article when it named a "Cedar Point Expert." Of course the park doesn't have a dark ride and it can be argued that they would benefit from one. But the same argument can be made that a dive coaster is the next piece Cedar Point is missing from their coaster puzzle.

Journalism at its finest that article is. I learned back in high school to use credible sources.

I would love Cedar Point to have a dark ride, too, but I'd be surprised to see one instead of the Dive Coaster in 2016. Also, I could tell the article wasn't from a good source when I had to answer a question about smartphones in order to read it...

A dark ride would be a great addition. Perhaps it's in their 5 year plan....Dive Coaster in '16 and Dark Ride in '18?
