P. 2017: Top Thrill Dragster RETIRED!?!?!?

Recommended Posts

As under supported as the top of the Immelmann is, I wonder if they are going to start placing track on those two supports they already have built after the Immelmann and start working backwards through the next two supports all the way to the Immelmann and finally after all that track and supports are placed, then place the top of the Immelmann in place which would connect the current placed track all the way through the two supports at the bottom of the pullout from the Immelmann??

(I sure hope that made sense. It made sense as I was typing it, but not so much when I re-read it.)

Obviously they know what they are doing, I'm just curious as to how the will go about building the nextime several track sections.

I'm sure they will do it that way.

I've still not quite got used to just how big this ride is. I chuckle to myself almost daily when I look at how it towers over the hotel (?) to the right of the lift and it's mad to think the the pull-out from the first drop is basically the entire width of Raptor.

Never been on a dive coaster. The first drops, I hear, are stupidly awesome. Based on Sheikra/Griffon/any other dive machine you have ridden, where would you rank the 'drop' in comparison to those at Cedar Point (Maverick, Dragster, Millennium, Magnum, etc)

Just in case any of you were curious... Unlike what the previous photos showed, it looks like right before lifting the holding brake into place they installed the chain on it. Which is just one less thing they will have to do later!

EDIT: Sorry for the double post.

Here is something to think about.....

Mean Streak being open? I tend to avoid that ride, is this a new development?

I think you guys are reading too far into things. Tony loves to throw out red herrings b/c the enthusiasts community is very gullible, and will belive anything.

Going through Youtube and i came across this video. Its 50 minutes long and is also from 2001, but its pretty cool to watch. A lot has change at the park since then.

Thanks for sharing! I was 16 that summer, and I really tried to get my dad to take us to Cedar Point. He hates crowds, so we went to Florida instead (panhandle, not Orlampa). This video was basically of the park that I would have seen.

I do find it kind of awesome that even though it was the second newest coaster at the time, they didn't even mention Mantis. Seems I didn't miss anything there.

Wow thanks for sharing this! I remember my Grandma had this on VHS(!) and I used to watch it everything I would go over there. Sadly that VHS has been long since forgotten so it was great to come across that again!

So last night I was bored so I was messing around on Google Maps.

So correct me if i'm wrong, but the supports and track at clermont look just like Valravn tracks at Breakers Express?

Also, does anyone know what the big building that is behind the track and supports in the street view photo used for?

I actually ventured behind that area to check out what that building was and if memory serves me correctly it was the laundry for Breakers Express.

When I walked back there to find out the same thing for myself I found that it was Breakers Express' Laundry

I actually had recorded this special on DC when I was 11. It was at a time when DC also aired a special on the top 10 wood/steel coasters in the world (with POV's), and a special documenting a group of rider's trying to break the record for most differenrt coaster rides un a 24 hour period (they did it in Cali and did end up breaking the record with like 35). Back then, Youtube wasn't around, so these specials and, a little later, Robb's "Coasters in the Raw" videos were the only proper way if getting my enthusiast fix. Ahhh, the good 'ol days!!
