Universal Studios Japan (USJ) Discussion Thread

p. 45: Donkey Kong Country announced for 2024!

^Just provide theming with 'spidey-netting' all over the place and I'm sure there could be alot of creativity to theme it towards a Spiderman-theme. And, if any line-jumpers perform their irritating duties of pissing off guests, a spidey-net could fall from the que and capture the victims and release them somewhere into the park at random.

Anyway, I still can't relate coasters and any of the Universal parks...My mind can't comprehend it.

Err, why's that? IOA has had coasters since it opened... seven years ago.

I pratically grew up at USH back before USF/IOA was even considered (My Dad was the GM and later the SVP)...It's just really weird for me to hear coasters and Universal in the same sentence.

Yeah the 9 cars makes a lot more sense than 9 riders. I hope this is a stop on the TPR Japan trip, then again I hope I can even make the thing.

I still haven't been on the two US jr. beemers that opened this year.

Whatever it turns out to be I doubt we'll be dissapointed.

Also, I know this is a little OT... but doesn't USJ have a Spidey ride like IOA? If so, is it the same?

Goliath at SFoG is a full size hypercoaster. It's just over 200 feet tall. The only B&M speed coasters that can be considered junior hypers are Goliath at La Ronde (174 feet tall) and Apollo's Chariot at BGE (170 feet tall). However, if your like me and think that a full-size hyper is a full-circuit coaster with a lift hill between 200 and 299 feet tall or with a drop of 200 to 299 feet, Apollo's Chariot is a full size hypercoaster.

Goliath at SFOG only has a drop of 175 feet. Its 200 feet tall alltogether but the drop itself is only 175 feet. La Ronde's Goliath's structure is 174 feet, but the drop is less than five feet shorter that SFOG's. People always underestimate it because it's in Canada. CANADA ISN'T (Censored) Money deprived igloo county!

Anyway, 50 degree drop? This might be like the Camel Coaster at Nasu Highlands!

To update on what I mentioned about the not-so-steepness of this thing... About all of the B&M speed coasters have drops of about 70 degrees or so, 50* seems kind of rampy for a mini-hyper. I just hope it's a B&M, they could use some more of those in the east.

Just wanted to bump this up with a possible slight update...

As much as I hope the ride will be themed to Spiderman (rumors of a Venom ride?!), I have a feeling some information was lost in translation. Many articles about the new coaster for Universal Studios Osaka claim that the ride will be the most expensive since it opened it's Spiderman ride but never made any mention of the new ride being themed to Spiderman. Just a thought.

It's good to finally hear SOMETHING about this thing!

Here's basically what the article says, I'm at work and don't mind making sense of this since I have nothing else to do.

The American movie theme park Universal Studios Japan which is under new management will build a new coaster for the 2007 season. (Mentions 2004's Spiderman play area) A new coaster has been applied for reaching from the lagoon to the entry gates having a track length of 1.2 kilometers, max. height 44 meters, a 50 degree drop, and max speed 90 kph. The coaster will seat 36 riders in rows of 4.

In order to improve the deficit, spending in recent years has been limited. A new attraction is assumed to lead to a growth in attendance and therefore profits. Rain and other factors have kept attendance low in recent years but a new major attraction hopes to increase the amount of visitors to the park.

Yeah, it's safe to say it's a B&M, even though the layout doesn't show much... To our friends in the east, have you heard anything recently about this?

Hmm... Why is the Terminater show in New York when all 3 of them are based out in LA?

Anyways, can't wait to see the ride built. I doubt there will be an official release about the ride that goes into great details, but we shall see.

Another thing I noticed about Japan's Universal is that they didn't really make the best use of the land. Once you get towards the back of the park, it looks like there's a lot of walking and not much to do.

The layout of the park is VERY similar to Universal Orlando. Try to imagine what Orlando's park would have been like before Men In Black was installed.

Finally something a layout would be nice or a name or anything. I'm really looking forward see how they are going to do a hyper at a studio park. If it's going to be well themed or not. If it's going to run around the park or be isolated to one area.

You know it would be awesome if it had an Hulk launched lift hill.

I think its safe to say its not going to be themed to Spiderman, the track looks purple!

EDIT- ^He beat me to the color thing.

Anyways, we obviously now know its a B&M, that makes me excited!
