  1. I wish I could say I have a video of the transfer track at Flashback. It was an elevator, since the station track was the transfer track and it would lower the train under the station. However, when I worked at SFMM, I didn't have a phone that had video recording on it.
  2. ^ The 2nd picture of Orange shows off the color a bit more than the first one. It is actually a bit deeper shade of orange, much like how the red is. It's very pretty. I can't wait to see Purple!
  3. ^ Seriously. You wasted your first post on this? Well, I guess I'm proud of you...? Welcome to TPR!
  4. No...It was Monorail Orange. They had it running a few empty cycles in the morning when the park opened, and then we saw it running empty at around 4:30ish as we were leaving too...
  5. Believe it or not, if it has anything to do with NASCAR or racing the week of a race...It's the place to be. I heard that the Cafe actually makes the majority of it's year just in the week of the race...
  6. That was totally by chance too...I was down there meeting someone to pick up a present for a friend. I originally thought it was a plane taking off but just happened to turn around and see the ride cycling. There was some activity in the station, but it looked like mechanics inspecting the train.
  7. The girl (WaterCopH2O...She's new...) and I are both registered... Looking forward to this year! Last year was awesome!
  8. You would compromise the slab if you were to do that. Much like a house with a post-tension slab, you don't really cut into it because you would lose your tension. I'm assuming the same would happen here and we'd have Psyclone: Salvation instead of Terminator: Salvation.
  9. I still think we should take my Jeep down there and liberate it...
  10. Also, it's not like they can't change their mind after to reopen the rides AFTER 12am if they feel they can. Besides, like Robb said, there's alway next year.
  11. ^ Well, of course it'll go for more than $35 million...I was just saying, there's plenty of money to purchase the park...
  12. So...Here's a question for y'all... If a group were to come in with the proposed $35 million for the auction and a team that was VERY experienced in the theme park industry, would you all be willing to give the park a 2nd chance? I only ask because I know of a company that is interested in purchasing the park and re-opening it. The guys that run it are all from other theme parks (and were responsible for making said parks what they are today) and also have a positive, established relationship with both the owners of the Hard Rock brand and the government of SC (from previous projects). Just curious... Also, on a side note...It turns out that the President and COO of the park is an old family friend. He used to work with my Dad at Universal, and actually replaced him when he left back in 1994.
  13. Awesome trip report! I hope it isn't that dead next year when the show comes out here to Vegas...
  14. The best thing you can do is actually start working at a theme park. Most companies like to promote from within... Example: My Dad started off as a tour guide for Universal Studios Hollywood back when the modern tour as we know it was started (~1970). He worked his butt off and eventually made it all the way up the ladder to Executive VP of Development for all of (at the time, ~1990-1993) MCA Recreation and General Manager of USH (a position he held twice in his tenure with Universal). He also graduated from USC with a BS in Architecture which helped out a lot as he was involved in a lot of construction. Just thought I'd throw that out there...
  15. I'm sure all of the rides that offer FastPass/FlashPass/Whatever now will be on the Q-Bot list...
  16. What do y'all think about what happened to DC during P1 yesterday? Especially the way the FIA handled it? Regardless of what happened, I think this might be DC's last year in racing.
  17. I went to the race in San Diego last year, and I'm going again this year. This has to be one of the best sports ever. Well, besides F1...
  18. Sorry this is a bit off-topic, but where the hell did this thread come from?! I've been watching F1 racing for almost 18 years now...I'm glad to see a lot of other people (especially in this community) are watching it too...
  19. Damn John...You didn't waste any time getting those up there! Thanks for posting them!
  20. This one I will actually go to...Nothing to distract me that weekend.
  21. Yes, and I never said that they didn't. There are a lot of factors that play into an overshoot or an undershoot. LSM timing is just one of them. Also, the brake does have a lot to do with it. I've seen the car a couple of times just decide to move on its own, even though the brake was engaged and the car/ride was acting normal. And such is the same for a lot of coasters. I think there's a reason why there it's only one-train operations when it rains...Oh yeah, because the trains would actually bump into each other because they could not stop. Have you ever driven your car really fast in the rain, and then had to stop suddenly? It doesn't take the same amount of time and distance as if you had to stop the same way as when it's raining. Why? Water makes things slick. Making a surface slick causes wheels to lose traction with the surface they are on. Water + Metal Track + Oil/Lube/Grease + Speed = Overshoot Going by that logic, you can see where I'm coming from. Having been an operator at S:TE for over two years (actually I think it was 3...I had to take the certification test 3 times), and having trained a lot of people up there, I've seen a lot of crazy stuff happen on that ride. Like the summers when we had to ice the LSMs because they kept shutting down because of the heat, or not having the "emergency stop" not do anything to the ride. There are a lot of stories I have and I have heard over the years. I hope that helps...
