The Six Flags Magic Mountain (SFMM) Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

I wonder if SFMM would ever relocate Scream to another Park in the Chain. I'm just curious because of its location, lack of major popularity, and lack of upkeep (paint). I know they are shooting for that number 20, but still curious about it.

They'd do it if it was financially beneficial to the chain to do so. It takes a lot of money to move a coaster from one park to another. It would need to be a situation where a park needs a new coaster, but the chain won't pay to build one from scratch, and SF gets an amazing deal from whoever the freighter is.

:cough: Six Flags did just take a 21 year-old 1st Gen. beemer and reopened it 800 miles east at SFA.

Not that the move would ever happen, but Scream could easily be repackaged to benefit to SFA and SFStL (you could even find a way to put in into SFGAm or SFOT's collections).

^They have had a few re-locations, but none from SFMM.

It wasn't just coasters I was referring to.

You could but there has to be so much more to it than that. That's exactly what I was talking about Scream needing to be a big draw and it wouldn't be at those parks. People would yawn, roll over, and go ride SFGam's Goliath or SFOT's NTAG. That's not to say Scream wouldn't be a nice addition to either of those parks. It totally would be. But I don't think it would be enough of a draw as either park's *NEW FOR 2015* attraction to be worth the cost of moving the coaster. It's not like SFMM needs to cast it off because it's a maintenance nightmare. It's the complete opposite. Scream's worst failing is its location. Everything else about it is exactly what SFMM wants from a coaster.

^Care to share what you know? Or......

Been going to SFMM my whole life, and went to SFM twice last year, I didn't recognize any of the attractions down there as something that used to be at SFMM. I'd love to know so I can be all nostalgic and ride it when I'm there again.

Batman Stunt Show off the top of my head. It was a few years ago now. Show's probably not running at SFM anymore. Back in the day people wondered where SFMM's Batman Show went and the answer that was given was Batman moved to Mexico.

EDIT: Also had in mind SFDK's Big Spin which obviously wasn't SFMM but was a hand-me-down nevertheless.

EDIT EDIT: To go back to Scream and its location...even Scream shouldn't be down there. That area is all backstage employee area. Scream and its entrance plaza are plopped literally right in the middle of it with walls trying to hide backstage from view. A couple main backstage access roads go directly under Scream, navigating through the footers. To be totally up front, I used to work in an office so close to Scream that my desk would shake whenever Scream cycled. So good luck seeing anything more built down by Scream's entrance. The space is already mostly occupied, even though that didn't stop Scream from being built.

I agree that if Scream were to be relocated it would be for either SFA or SFStL. It was rumored that SFStL was going to receive Bizarro from SFGAd for 2013, so that makes it even more probable. I don't expect SFMM to get rid of Scream, at least anytime soon. I just think it would be the most likely one to remove due to its location, popularity, and overall appearance. And I do feel it would fit in much better at another Park. But with that being said, I'm sure we all know why SFMM installed Scream.

^Winter in california has a higher fire danger, since there is a lot more dry and windy weather than typical cold winter weather!

Funny, I always thought we had fire threats in the fall. You learn something new everyday!

You mean the fire that was right behind Apocalypse (took this photo on June 2, 2013)

Ya, it's a good thing the fire didn't leap over the road.

No matter what time of year, there's always a fire danger here whenever warm weather mixes with dry brush and warm, gusty winds. SFMM sits at the base of a canyon, placing it in a permanent wind tunnel. It's always a prime target for potential brush fires.

I think Scream should go to Six Flags Over Texas. The reason I say that is because it would appeal to people going to those parks. Also, SFOT needs a good, solid looping coaster. Its two major coasters, Ntag and Titan, do not go upside down, and Mr. Freeze, Batman, and Shock Wave aren't "enough" when it comes to loops, and Mr. Freeze and Batman use other gimmicks (being inverted and being a shuttle loop) to characterize the ride. There needs to be a coaster that characterizes multiple inversions, if you know what I mean.

I'm not sure where Scream would fit but I think SFOT is an ideal park for it.

Gotta love this speculation on where Scream should go when it's actually not going anywhere.....

Also.... Did someone really just joke that they hoped a fire would burn down Magic Mountain? I know this site likes it's jokes and all, but does anyone else think that was a little bit over the top?

Not really, no. They have insurance.

Who knows maybe the fire will burn down some flat rides, leave empty concrete pads and save SFMM the hassle of doing that themselves.

Oh... and we're also kidding. No need to act like you're offended.

If that's what you're going by, Scream is also gimmicky since it's a floorless.

Personally I think that while a floorless coaster is very gimmicky, I don't think it is as apparent as a inverted coaster or a shuttle loop (even though it is very apparent). It's gimmicky but not as much as inverted coasters or shuttle loops in my opinion.

Knowing people who have lost their houses to fire (they had insurance too), fire just really isn't that funny to me. I personally love Magic Mountain. My son and I (single dad here) have been making yearly trips down there for the last 2 years, and it's been some of the best family time we've ever gotten together. He doesn't care about any of the shit everyone on here complains about, he just loves going on a bunch of rides with his dad.

So, sorry to be the Debbie Downer here, but yeah, I just don't find jokes about fire burning down an amusement park very funny.
