P. 2239: Superman: Escape from Krypton permanently closed

^ I think what was being referred to with the comment about the park flattening out areas was the pictures of the walkway leading to Colossus that used to be relatively lush and well-shaded with many trees. In the pictures, it appears the park is having just about all of those trees removed, not unlike what happened with the area in front of the old Palace arcade when Full Throttle's entrance was being built.

I agree that I don't really understand it either. The only thing I can think of is ease of foot traffic in/out of the food service location's area. It used to be that you could walk to Colossus and hardly notice that restaurant was even there because of the way the paths were configured. That would need to change if they ever expected people to stop into that location en masse for some grub. Even then, it's still way far away from any major food service hub. I wonder what the department has in mind to keep that building from being the virtual Gilligan's Island it always seemed to be.

Further up the hill, there's also the concrete slab that served as a place to advertise new cars for many, many years that recently hasn't and probably won't serve that purpose ever again. That desperately needs to be dealt with. Maybe they even intend to lessen the grade of that particular hill itself? Guess we will have to wait and see.

My issue with that area was always the fact that just wasn't any reason to walk down that way. Colossus was boring, Scream was an eyesore and there was no food, no place to rest and no flats. It was depressing. It looks as if at least some of those issues are on their way to much improvement.

I'm not the biggest fan of the Full Throttle area either, but it's kinda grown on me.

The misters in yolo plaza still work, they have been turned off though since HIP because there is no need for them.

From the sound of it, Screampunk District should be a very vibrant area next year with a lot of stuff going on in it. I too am worried about the shade though... A part of me dies every time the park cuts down a nice, full grown tree. Needless to say, I died a lot this year...

I saw confirmation today that nothing will be changing on Scream other than the new paint job, some new (but not different) parts on the trains, and a refreshed sign in front of the queue.

So officially, no name change? :/

Considering that the area is now going to be called the Screampunk District, I'd argue that the name Scream fits much better now then it used to.

Not surprised that Scream isn't getting anything "new" added to it besides the paint job, the ride has been there for years and is no longer the focal point of the area. They don't need to sell it, they are now trying to sell Twisted Colossus next door. Will I be secretly disappointed if Scream doesn't get mulch or anything to cover the parking lot? Yes. Surprised? Not at all.

^ Why would they change the name? It's a decade old ride. That would just confuse people.

There have been multiple accounts where people said the name may change (our mountain, CCK, etc). It's not like they've never changed a coaster's name before.

^ I heard those rumors, but they never made sense to me. Why name the area Screampunk, and then change Scream's name when it might finally actually fit the ride. Secondly, all the changes people were hoping for with Scream, seemed like something more likely to happen on an off year, not the same year they would already be opening a multi-million dollar ride next door. There is still most likely a pretty strict budget they have to meet.

Yes officially no name change, it will still be called Scream! and for exactly the reason you mentioned. It goes so well with the name of the district, why change it?

I, too, would like to see better landscaping under Scream, but I don't see why they would ever do it. Scream definitely isn't their best coaster and spending a ton of money for the ground beneath it to look better probably wouldn't draw that many new riders to it. TC is going to be the best coaster at the park and I haven't heard them planning any theming or landscaping for that.
