WFChris
I don't remember the types either, but I was told that the wheels that were originally designed for the ride were insufficient and were being replaced with the new ones as they deteriorated. When our train came limping back into the station (on media day) everything was very hush hush about it and they had a mechanic switch out the wheel right then and there. I remember the wheel 'failing' about halfway through the helix and the remainder of the ride just felt kinda like a wooden coaster.

AllenA07
Wow, how time flies! Goliath turns 15 years old today!  One of the most miserable openings I've ever gone to! It was cold and rained almost the entire day.  Yes, but going up the hill after the first drop in the HAIL was a moment I can never forget  And, the helix of doom was also running full force at that point!!!! I was even in one of the wheel chucking cars too... ~memories~  Funny I thought I remembered it hailing but I wasn't 100% sure.
DoinItForTheFame
Weren't the wheels burning when Goliath first opened as well?? I know Titan at SFOT has to have its wheels sprayed down when it comes back into the station because they are to hot. Not sure if Goliath has the same thing now after they replaced the wheels around opening. Can anyone confirm if Goliath has the wheel misting as well??? In regards to Titan: During the summer months, as the train rolls into to the station, a cloud of mist can be seen under the train. Owing to problems with the wheels on the trains overheating, water is sprayed on the wheel assembly to help cool down the wheels after the train completes the course. DoubleDown
The only things I wish Goliath had was the helix Titan has after the "airtime" hill and before the brake run, and maybe a little bit more maneuvering before the turn to the brake run. I think the ride has SO MUCH momentum that goes unused. That would make the ride feel a lot more complete. thrillseeker4552
I would love to experience Goliath without any trims on the MCBR. The helix is already forceful enough as it is. I can't even imagine what it's like with no trims.
CoasterCam
That would be insane! Goliath would be my number 1 if it did not have a midcourse break, but it would probably kill me.

coasterlvr
Weren't the wheels burning when Goliath first opened as well?? Â they'd come back chunky. the urethane or whatever compound was sort of sprayed on the back of the trains. seems they were swapping trains every few circuits to replace wheels over and over. but, it opened! Manic Monte
What a beautiful looking ride. Once they paint the old wood, stunning. Should be one of the most photographed coasters in the world.

southpuddle
Interesting that they re-paved the old trench that the first drop used to dip into. Anyone have a guess as to why that is? There is no longer any track going down there. Drainage?

I'd surmise the paving was a finishing touch of sorts to the construction.

SilentBob
Hi SFMM fans. First time poster, short while reader. Â I'm travelling from Australia next week and one of my stops is going to be at SFMM Sat 28th Feb. Had a few questions for those with local knowledge. Â - Being a Saturday i have read it is busier than Sunday's, but being the offpeak time (and after the busy-ish Presidents Weekend) how busy should I expect the place to be? - Should i factor in getting a flash pass as a 'must' or being offpeak time its not needed? and if it is, regular or gold? - I will be riding solo as my wife and kid will be heading off to the limited number of kiddy rides while I get to have some fun, so which rides are worth bothering with (if available) the single rider line? I've read a few are hard to find or out of the way... - Lastly, recommended plan of attack? Will be getting there for 10am opening but won't be there till close due to having to then drive down to Anaheim and the wife/kid boredome/tiredness factor... I've read a few tips on here which say to head straight for Full Throttle then either check X2 to see if its already a long line (and if not, ride it) else pick a direction around the park and go from there hitting each ride in turn(clockwise/anti-clockwise?) Â Â Thanks for any tips you can throw this way.. Rollercoasters in this area of the world are pretty boring (or non-existent) so I'm looking forward to a day full of fun
