  1. So I'm really tall and skinny so does that mean that I can't wear a patch jacket? I have all kinds of patches but I have no idea what to do with them because the whole patch jacket thing was only cool like 10 years ago.
  2. I'd say call the parks first. If you explain to them your problem, then they might not have a problem with it. For some reason SF doesn't allow you to buy passes online unless you live within a certain amount miles from the park. You'll be able to buy a pass AT the parks for sure, but you might not be able to buy them online ahead of time. Either way, you have to have them processed at the park (unless they mail you last year's picture on a pass). Good luck with your trip. I hope you have a ton of fun riding the coasters during the less crowded time of year.
  3. I think it looks like a good idea. I'm not a big fan of flying coasters, but I still think it's cool. Hopefully they'll use magnetic brakes or keep the braking smoother than in the video.
  4. I hope that they add Beaver Land Mine Ride. I think that it's important for a well balanced amusment park to have multiple kiddie/ family coasters so that there is some variety for younger guests. It's not as fun of an experience for little kids if all they can do is ride one coaster and a bunch of small flats.
  5. This isn't a coaster, but I think it's a funny story anyways. I was riding Giant Drop at SFGAM and I had been very sick all day. I decided to go to Six Flags anyways, because it was my 8th grade graduation trip with my entire class. I had been eating jolly ranchers all day, which caused me to get dehydrated. I was in line for Giant Drop and started to feel dizzy and hot. I decided to ride anyways, because I had waited 15 minutes and I didn't want my waiting time to have been a waste. I boarded the ride and as we were going up I fainted. I remember looking at American Eagle and everything turning white and blending into the white structure and then everything was white and I was out. I woke up and we were already at the bottom. The only problem was that our restraints were stuck!! So now I really needed water and I knew that I was going to be stuck for 15 minutes. I was thinking that I was going to die or something, so I had the ride op come over and asked her for water. She was very nice and let me have her water bottle. We got off the ride 15 minutes later and were given free drink passes.
  6. I voted for Vekoma just because of some of the boomerangs and SLCs. I like both companies have some good coasters, and usually I can ignore the roughness of a coaster (except the SLC at Morey's). Overall I think that the Vekoma coasters that I've been on have been much worse rough-wise than Arrow.
  7. It really depends on what park you're going to in the summer. I know that you're going to LA, San Fransisco, and Las Vegas, but you didn't specify which parks. I've been to all of the Vegas 'parks' that have decent sized coasters and usually there weren't any lines, just because those places are pay per ride. The longest wait was about 5-10 minutes for the coaster at New York New York for the front row. Speed at NASCAR Cafe waits 5 minutes inbetween cycles for some reason (not sure if they always do this), but I was the only one on the coaster. I haven't been to CA ever, but from my experience at other amusement parks I can say that the parks that aren't owned by any of the large amusment companies probably won't have huge lines. Parks that are owned by Six Flags or Cedar Fair will probably have longer lines during the summer (if the weather is good). It also depends on what day of the week you go to the parks. If you're going to spend a few days at the beach or at a museum, maybe do those things on the weekends in order to wait less at the amusement parks during the week. Usually if I'm doing a family trip I'll talk them into doing all of the boring stuff on weekends and save the amusement parks for the weekdays.
  8. It'll probably be whatever one the head designer of the ride decides unless the park wants to use a certain term for advertising purposes. It's very doubtful that a park would do this, but you never know. If it is done I would guess that it would be Intamin.
  9. I think that it wouldn't be a good idea, because the movie will probably only be popular for a short amount of time. It's not a classic movie that people will watch often years from now, it's just a movie that kids like. I kind of like the movie, but it's unbearably lame at many parts. Basically my summary of the movie is a guy goes around feeling random landmarks with his hands and somehow understands where to go next. Maybe if he buys the ride for them they'll add it. I doubt they'll build a ride just because a rich actor decided that he wants a coaster.
  10. My whole view on the people dieing on Disney rides thing is that people push themselves too much at Disney. At a person's homepark, they usually don't push themselves, because they figure that they can always go back whenever they want to ride a ride. When some people go to Disney parks, it's a big deal for them because a family trip is very expensive and for some people it's a once in a lifetime experience. I don't think that the Disney rides are that intense compared to other rides I've been on, especially expedition everest. Unfortunately I don't think that people will ever realize that it's not worth pushing their limits and this will continue to be a problem at Disney and maybe even Cedar Point.
  11. The only problem with selling beer at their park is enforcing that nobody under 21 drinks it. I was at SFGAM once and saw a guy being held by park security because he had given beer to a minor. He tried to run from security and got tackled by two gaurds.
  12. I like the picture. It makes me feel like less of a dork for always having a sign. I have the funniest picture of me on this ridiculous kiddie coaster for my 300th. I'll post it once I upload all my summer pics.
  13. That really sucks. You can never be too sure in the Winter I guess. I wonder if they'll be operating Rumbler in the ice storm that's coming through tonight.
  14. I have another one. I was doing a college visit to Iowa State this summer with my mom and we got done with the tour early. We went to Adventurland the same day as the tour (instead of going the next day as we had originally planned). We were done with the park in a few hours, so I talked her into letting me go to Worlds of Fun the next day (even though we live in Chicago and it's the opposite way). The only downside was that I had to drive for the entire way to WOF and back. The next day we went to WOF and it was awesome. Six bonus credits!! That was one of my favorite trips this year. It's not really "crazy" but it was still a lot of fun and last minute.
  15. -All coasters at Opryland except for Hangman. -Shockwave (SFGAM) -Dejavu (SFGAM + SFOG) -All coasters that operated in 2007 at Geauga Lake except for Raging Wolf Bobs and Thunderhawk. -Chiller (Robin Side) -Super Saturator at Carowinds (if it's taken out) -Python (BGA) -The powered coaster at Enchanted Castle I think that's all. It's sad to see some of these coasters go, but I guess they'll just get replaced with bigger stuff.
  16. "Sorry I forgot to leave my gun at the hotel. My bad" What an idiot. At least they didn't notice it when she was inside the park.
  17. Day 1- Six Flags Great America If you've already been to the park and only want to go for a little bit, then you'll be fine. Sundays aren't the best day to go, but they're also not the worst. If it's a nice day you'll probably have to wait 30- 40 minutes at the most for Raging Bull. Day 2- Timber Falls and Mt. Olympus As said above, you might want to reverse the order that you hit up the parks. This is also a good idea, because you won't have to rush out of Timber Falls and you'll be able to have more fun. Personally I think that Timber Falls is much more fun at night. *Note: If you are a credit-ho and want to ride three small coasters, Riverview Park/ Waterpark is inbetween Timber Falls and Mt. Olympus. Day 3- NICK Universe and Valleyfair! Your plan sounds fine. When I went with my friends this year we were able to drive to Valleyfair from chicago, hit up MOA and valleyfair all in one day. You should be fine time-wise. Renegade is a really good coaster. It has a good mixture of twists and drops that doesn't let you get bored. The back row has better airtime IMO. I haven't been on Thunderhead yet, so I can't give you a comparison. Day 4- Adventureland Adventureland won't take you that long to do. Usually at an amusement park I'll just ride the coasters and any major flat rides and then go back for a second round of coasters. At Adventureland we rode everything that was worth riding in about three hours. I really liked this park even though the coasters didn't have huge amounts of airtime and weren't 200 feet tall. Outlaw- Fun coaster with mainly turns. It's only about 70 feet tall, but it's still a lot of fun. It barely has any airtime. Tornado- This coaster is an old out and back woodie. I'm pretty sure that it was a little bit rough. Dragon- Fun ride. The loops are pretty intense and there's a little pop of air going into the turn. I didn't try riding in the back row, but there might be some airtime on the first drop in the back row. Underground- This is a very weird coaster. It's an indoor wooden family coaster. It basically just does a bunch of slow turns with some home-made theming. It's a nice ride for families. Most of the coasters are operated by old guys who are pretty friendly. *Note: Arnolds park is inbetween Valleyfair and Adventureland if you're looking for extra parks. Day 5- Worlds of Fun and SFSTL Worlds of Fun is a great park. I've read some bad reviews about it, but I still liked it a lot. It was extremely dead when I was there. Mamba is very good in the front row. Patriot is also a great ride even though it's a little short. I think that you'll be able to fit both parks in one day. You'll be fine with HW and Indiana Beach. I hope your trip works out for you.
  18. I only get scared on a few rides: -Dejavu: I never know if the ride is going to have a miscatch or catch properly. Unexpected airtime scares me, so not knowing if the ride is going to work or not freaks me out. Ever since my first miscatch on Dejavu at SFGAM I've been scared, but still ride it of course because it's a great ride. -Skycoasters: Skycoaster scare me just because they dont' have a hard harness. The thought of a strap or plastic suit keeping me from falling 200 ft to the ground is freaky. -Skyscraper rides: These rides are great, but scare me a little bit because they have the strap harnesses. Definately worth the $10.
  19. What's the craziest trip that you have ever pulled off? I'm curious to see what lengths other coaster enthusiasts will go to in order to ride coasters. Mine would have to be my East Coast trip this year. Originally it was supposed to be a family trip out East with only a few amusement parks (adding up to 30 credits). I managed to talk them into about 5 bonus parks and ended up getting 52 credits out of the whole thing. This trip included me riding my 300th coaster at a go cart place in the middle of the night. The part of the trip that was the most fun was looking up parks each night on rcdb and going to them the next day. Many of these parks I had never even heard of before. Note: I did a search and the closest thing I could find was "what is the craziest thing you've done at an amusement park?" The difference is that I'm wondering about trips, not just a one time occurance at a park.
  20. It's good to see that this coaster isn't leaving. I liked it a lot and had a lot of fun marathoning it when I was there two years ago. I agree that CF retracking their woodies is a step in the right direction. Maybe they'll reduce the amount of trimming on some of their coasters if they can retrack them properly.
  21. The numbers are matched up with seats on the inside of the car. They use this to speed up the boarding process and fill up as many spots as possible. It looks like a they did a nice job with it and didn't cut any corners. My only complaint is that I can't understand a thing that they're saying
  22. I have nine. Most of these are of these are on my top ten list too. 1 The Voyage Holiday World 2 Boulder Dash Lake Compounce 3 Phoenix Knoebel's 4 Hades Mount Olympus 5 Avalanche Timber Falls 6 Raven Holiday World 7 Shivering Timbers Michigan's Adventure 8 Renegade Valleyfair! 9 Cornball Express Indiana Beach
  23. Also, if you were to bring a nephew or niece, they can ride with you while your wife watches the baby. After you ride, you take care of the baby while your wife rides with your niece/ nephew. When I was younger we always did this at Disney so I could get double rides.
  24. I'd have to go with Kentucky Kingdom, Six Flags Over Georgia, and beachside parks.
