In 2005 during spring break I waited about an hour or an hour and a half for SUF at SFOG and they didn't announce anything about the ride being closed. They started cycling empty trains randomly and then they'd have one with half a train and they kept running it like that. The line barely moved and we had no idea what was going on. So finally my dad convinced me that I could come back later for the credit. We ended up not going back over there until we were leaving and the line was full, so I decided to pass it up, because I knew I'd be back the next year, because Dejavu, Georgia Cyclone, and Mindbender were also closed that day.

I'm not really surprised at all. I went there in June this year and it was dead and really boring. We got there at the end of the day and stayed for maybe three or four hours just to get the credits and ride Ozark Wildcat a lot. It's sad to see parks close down, but sometimes that's just how it is. If they plan on keeping stuff up for awhile that might be a good sign. I'm wondering if they're planning on redoing the park, scrapping it completely, or just temporarily closing down while the economy's bad.

So they're announcing it at the end of this season and also making a note of season pass prices and perks. And then also announcing it at the beginning of next season and making a note of season pass prices and perks... Good strategy I think choosing to fix up Medusa instead of a different ride was a good idea.

So your house is 100 feet tall? I'm guessing you've never ridden a GCI woodie even. They're short and sweet. Evel Knievel, Renegade, and Ozark Wildcat are awesome. Lightning Racer is cool too. All of those are less than 3500ft and they have airtime and are good twisters. This is coming from someone who regularly isn't even a fan of twisters, so you know they're good.

I think they can pull it off. I liked the Dark Knight, even though most coaster people (and GP) didn't like it that much. Building quality coasters with themes is a new thing for Six Flags, so I think Dark Knight was kind of an experiment. They've learned from their mistakes and they'll fix those mistakes for Terminator and whatever other themed attractions they add this year.

Well I realized that I wrote a ton above, so if you read this post first just read this. If you have any info about Six Flags Mexico and traveling to Mexico City I would really appreciate any input. Thanks a ton

Ha, I knew someone was gunna say that. I'll explain what I mean and you can agree or disagree. El Toro's track is very very smooth. It feels like a steel coaster, because of the prefabricated track and it's an awesome ride. It's #1 on my wood list followed by Voyage in #2. The reason I give El Toro the edge is because of it's smoothness and extreme airtime in every hill (especially first drop in back row). So it's not rough, but it does hit you around quite a bit. When I say that I don't mean like Rolling Thunder, Ghostrider, or Canadian Minebuster. What I mean is that your body is moving quite a bit and it has very intense positive, negative, and lateral g's everywhere. Because it is changing from very intense negative g's to very intense positive g's to negative/ lateral g's, you're body moves more in those directions than it would on a less intense coaster. If you have your hands up, it's gunna hit you around a bit. I hope my explanation makes sense...

Magic Mountain wants to get a woodie that the entire family can enjoy. El Toro is an awesome woodie, but it definitely beats the crap out of you. Same with Voyage, even though that's an awesome woodie. I'm not much of a twister fan, but the GCI's are really fun and they're very comfortable to ride. Unfortunately for us, the parks aren't gunna build coasters just to suit one group of park visitors. They're going to build stuff for the many different groups that come to their parks, because they want to please as many people as possible, which means bringing in more money.

Ghost Lake - Conneaut Lake TR
sixflagsguy5 replied to Philrad71's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
My bad. You made it sound like that. The only parks I can do in October are WOF and SFGAM, so the kiddie credit doesn't really apply to me for the next 4 years I haven't really kept up with the financial status of Conneaut, but I'm guessing this might lead to reopening eventually. And that means more wooden credits (an a park saved from the wrecking ball) EDIT: Just noticed on rcdb that there isn't a coaster listed as a dragon coaster model. Is this coaster just there temporarily or is it a permanent installation? You might give Duane Marden a heart attack. -

That's really cool that they're sticking with it and not just letting the park go to waste. I like that they have the kiddie coaster open too. That way us credit hoes can get our kiddie credit/ park credit still. -
What is the record for number of rides on Goliath?
sixflagsguy5 replied to rawrtotheargh's topic in Ask Alvey
I keep a rough estimate for each coaster that I've ridden, because one of the coaster counter sites has it set up so you can enter how many rides on each coaster. I know that there are younger kids that go to one park like 20 or 30 times a year and over time the ride ops will be like "wow you've been on this ride a lot of times, you probably have the record." It's not like they actually log a record in a book in their control booth or anything, they're just saying that to be friendly and nice. So if you're going to SFMM like 40 times a year and one day you rode Goliath 20 times in a row and a ride op said something about a record, don't think you actually have some special record (no offense). A lot of people marathon coasters all the time. The only marathons that really get special note are if it's for a special cause (such as the GCI guy riding coney island cyclone for x amount of hours to save the ride from destruction). -
There will always be wrong assumptions about wooden coasters by the GP. Most people assume that wooden coasters are old, even though many of them aren't the oldest coasters in the parks that they're at, and there are still new woodies being built each year. That's just how it is, because most people don't really care that much about roller coaster information. Most people just go to a park twice a year and it's just another activity for them, just like going to the mall or going to a beach. I'm sure there will be plenty of people at SFMM this summer thinking that Terminator is Psyclone or thinking that the ride is the oldest ride in the park.

Ok, so I'm pretty sure from reading this site since 2005, that the Alvey's haven't been to Six Flags Mexico (or at least recently). I want to find out from anyone who has gone there how it is traveling there. Please note that this is a very long post. I'm still in contact with my babysitter that I had many years ago and she is Mexican and has family in Mexico. She said that she traveled there recently and it was terrible. She said that instead of little kids being in school they work on the streets and try to make money doing simple tasks such as washing cars at stoplights, ect. I told her that I wanted to go there for roller coasters and she said it was a very bad idea. My dad's gone there on business and he had to have bodygaurds. From what I've heard, American's aren't very welcome in Mexico City. At this point in my credit whoring life I've been on 465 (466 if you count relocated) coasters. The only major parks I have left in North America are Northern CA, washington state/ idaho/ oregon, small texas parks/ cliffs, and parks in maine/ NH, and Mexican parks. I haven't been to dollywood or any of the small parks around there, but I'll be getting those this summer b/c I have family in TN (easy parks to hit up). So Six Flags Mexico and the park with the mobius woodie are on my list of "rare" parks. I usually base my trips off of 1-big parks, 2-wooden coasters I haven't been on, 3-new coasters. So Mexico is a good trip, because it has my top two reasons for choosing a location. Ok, so that's all the background information for why I want to go there and I also wanted to verify that there is a good chance I will do this. I understand that a lot of people ask information about trips that they know they aren't going to do and it ends up just being a waste of time for people who respond. Also, please only respond to this topic if you've been to the park or if you have a lot of knowledge of traveling. But if anyone has info post it, I'm not trying to be a jerk or anything Finally, here are my questions for people who have gone there: 1.) If you traveled to Mexico City, did you drive or fly from your home? 2.) If you flew into Mexico City, how was the drive from the airport to either of the amusement parks. 3.) On a scale of 1-10 (10 highest) how safe did you feel at Six Flags Mexico (if you went there)? 4.) On a scale of 1-10 how safe did you feel at La Feria Chapultepec Magico (if you went)? 5.) Which country do you live in? 6.) What nationality are you (roughly)? 7.) At any point did you get in a dangerous situation or feel unsafe? Here's my gameplan if I do this: -Fly to Mexico City (early in morning on weekday) -Go to Six Flags Mexico that same day all day. -Stay in the most expensive/ safe hotel that I can find in that area. -Go to La Feria Chapultepec Magico for maybe 2 hours on second day. -*Go back to Six Flags Mexico on 2nd day if I didn't get all credits first day. -Fly back that night or next day. -Possibly dress "less American" and wear maybe a hat from australia or a shirt that's in all German if it's true that American's aren't welcomed in Mexico City So it's a very short trip and hopefully it won't be too expensive overall (has high $/credit ratio though).

Plans for 09
sixflagsguy5 replied to Thelegendarymatthew's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Both Colin and Hercules have good points. I got into the whole coaster thing when I was 9. The first step was getting my parents to get season passes for Six Flags Great America. After that I was somehow able to talk my parents into going to Six Flags St. Louis (family near there) and Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom. Besides those parks we had only done parks in popular tourist areas (Florida). When I was 12 I talked them into a roadtrip to do Cedar Point and Darien Lake. If I were you I'd figure out a small trip to Six Flags Great Adventure first. Maybe find a small park near there that would be cool to try out also. Just come up with a full schedule of driving times and what times you'd be at the parks and show it to your parents. You can also give them the talk about how cool Great Adventure is to try to convince them. If you can get them to do that one trip and understand your coaster obsession, then you have a much better chance of doing all of these other trips to places much farther away. Good luck -
I think that coasters won't get much higher than they already are. Some park(s) (probably foreign) will probably try to push the limits with speed and maybe height. I think that designers will try to make a better ride by creating new elements and making one-of-a-kind rides. Some designers will continue to come up with designs that can be easily cloned and built anywhere. Hyper coasters can have any types of restraints that the parks/ designers feel are needed. A lot of people let certain restraints (intamin OTSR's and new lapbars on S:ROS) ruin their ride experience. The only way it really ruins the ride is if somebody can't fit into the modified restraints.

PTR: KI: Sat. July 19th
sixflagsguy5 replied to angryemobeaver's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Nice pictures. I have the same problem, where it's very hard for me to get good pictures at night. Is the speed lane only for Kings Island platinum passholders or for Cedar Fair platinum passholders in general? Is there an upcharge for this or is it just another free pass perk? I haven't been to Kings Island since it's been under Cedar Fair, so I'm kind of out of the loop.
