Elitch Gardens, Lakeside, and Lagoon
sixflagsguy5 replied to sixflagsguy5's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Thanks a lot for the info. I know that the Flying Coaster at Elitch has been SBNO for about a year now. I just looked on Park City Mountain Resort's site and noticed that between April 12th and May 22nd, they are switching from their Winter season to Summer season. So nothing is open there during that period of time. Normally I would put my trip off another week to get this coaster in, but I can't for this trip. I tried calling them up and nobody answered unfortunately. So as I was writing this post I did some research on other alpine coasters in Colorado/ Utah using a coaster counter website. I found that there's a park called Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park. They have some really crazy stuff there. They have an alpine coaster and they also have a ride called Swing Shot. I believe it's a typical S&S Screamin' Swing. The difference is that on one of the swings you hang 1,300 feet over the colorado river!! I'm not a flat ride person, but I do love heights, so I'm gunna try to check out this place. I think they had something about it in Rollercoaster or ACE news a few years ago. It's right off of I-70. http://glenwoodcaverns.com/ngc_thrillrides.html#canyon Edit: Swing Shot is not an S&S Screamin' Swing -
Here's the deal... I'm flying to Denver next week and then driving to Salt Lake City. We're booking flights in the next few days, so I need any information that people have. 1) Have you been to Elitch Gardens, Lakeside, and/ or Lagoon this season? If so, please post which coasters were operating and which were closed when you went. 2) Are any of the coasters under a major rehab right now? 3) Have you ridden the Alpine coaster in Park City, Utah? What do I need to know? Any other information would be great. I would just like to know if any of the major coasters at any of these parks have been down so far this season. Most parks won't tell you if their rides are closed, so it's best to hear from people who have visited the parks. I would hate to show up to Elitch Gardens and miss Twister II or Half Pipe... Thanks

Holiday World (HW) Discussion Thread
sixflagsguy5 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'm very surprised with how well it turned out. I wasn't planning on going back to Holiday World this year, but I might have to now. -
The only park I've ever heard about the shopping pass thing is Sesame Place. I've never been there, but from what I hear it's supposed to be a lot of fun for little kids. I doubt Six Flags would do that, because people would go into the park for 30 minutes on a "shopping pass" and get a season pass upgrade for $54.99 and then leave...

Lose visitors? There weren't very many visitors the first time around. Yea yea the name sucks, we got that the first few times it was said. What truly matters is whether they will survive this time around, and if they lower the ticket cost, I'm sure they will. I think Kennywood and Dollywood are stupid names, but that never stopped me from going. I'm sure that out of the few people that went to the park in the first place, a good percentage of those people went because of the Hard Rock name. Hard Rock Cafe and Hard Rock Hotel have a reputation and I'm sure that some of the people that went to the park went because of that. Lowering their ticket price will help them, but that's not going to turn the park around.

The Brochure/Map Trade Topic
sixflagsguy5 replied to Reality15's topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
I boxes full of brochures/ maps. Is there anything in specific that you're looking for? I have several SFSTL and SFKK 2000 maps. I might have some SFGAM maps from the late 90's too. I have pretty much every florida and east coast park (2006-2008), but that's about all. If you wanna step the trade up a bit I have two Hangman shirts from Opryland. I'm sure they wouldn't fit you because they're kids sizes. -
I guess I really didn't miss much.

Robb Alvey on In The Loop Podcast!
sixflagsguy5 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I've seen coasterboy at a few ACE events before and the Q&A sessions are pretty much similar to what they had on in the loop. -

Isn't it just a clock with neon lining? I don't get what the big deal is... -
SFMM PTR March 24 (Lots of Pics)
sixflagsguy5 replied to a topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Nice PTR. It's crazy how much that park has changed in the past year since I was there. Adultcon isn't an ACE event right? -
SFNO/Jazzland Discussion Thread
sixflagsguy5 replied to SharkTums's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Hey it might be a really stupid business move, but I'd definitely be down there the first two months the park were to reopen. Of course it'll never happen, but I don't mind his effort in trying to reopen the park. -
What are some loud rides and coasters?
sixflagsguy5 replied to JFrombaugh's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Dejavu is really loud when it has a miscatch. I'll go with hypersonic for a normal ride. -
Was there a big person in your row on batman? If you push up really hard on most B&M restraints they'll stay locked until you stop pushing up (the entire row stays locked). If there's a person in your row who really had to work hard to get the restraint to lock, it'll do that, because their body is pushing up very hard on the restraint. I skimmed through your trip report, but you said you blacked out from titan? I've had minor blacking out on many rides, but not to the point where I have to go to first aid. Maybe try to get your tolerance for positive g's up. Even hanging upside down from a chin up bar might help you. I usually grow a tolerance for spinning through May and June and then I'm fine by July.

Knoebels Discussion Thread
sixflagsguy5 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
It was a really cool kiddie coaster. I'm sure they're replace it with something similar. The coaster was built over the boat canal, so it would be hard to fit anything with a much different layout. -
Shane's Amusement Attic
sixflagsguy5 replied to montezooma's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Nice pics. The Wacky Worm with the turntable station (Astroland) was #400 for me We were supposed to ride Cyclone first but we went to the bathrooms first and I totally forgot that my next one would be 400 so we just got the quick credit and then halfway through I realized it was 400. I really like the medium sized fair coasters. -
Knott's Ghost Rider
sixflagsguy5 replied to vdoefx's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I didn't think it was too bad. It was rough and didn't have anything that exciting to it, but it wasn't rough to the point where I was in pain. -
Planning a Trip to NJ Six Flags
sixflagsguy5 replied to lorddoonga's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
1. Personally I like El Toro, Kingda Ka, Nitro, Medusa, and Skull Mountain. I'm very picky about which coasters are my favorite, but those are all very good. There are a lot more that you'll probably like. 2. The amount of money you spend on anything really just depends on how you pace your spending. I'm able to get away with going to a six flags park for under $15 for the entire day. I have a car, so I'm able to drive to fast food outside of the park ($5 footlong!!) and I have a season pass. For getting into the park I would suggest finding a friend who has a pass and has coupons, buying online, or using a discount (coupons or a coke can). 3. Yes!! I was out East this summer and we planned for a total of 2 days at the park (1/2 day, full day, 1/2 day). My friend who had never been to the park before had ridden every roller coaster except for one or two within the first half day. Just plan on going on a weekday. It really makes a huge difference. Tuesdays and Wednesdays are usually really good. -
B&M Lift Catwalks
sixflagsguy5 replied to Eric_Smith's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
It's probably just park preference or building codes. It's not a big deal though, as long as there's a way to get down if it gets stuck. -
-People who drive to the front of the parking lot to get a closer spot, even though they usually end up in the back anyways. -Smoking in line (or when my friends smoke in the car), because you're pretty much forced to breathe in that crap. -People talking about the physics behind coasters (because usually it's totally wrong and it's irritating as an engr student).

Six Flags Season Pass Survey
sixflagsguy5 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
A lot of the emails are from specific parks and they use the email that you give them when you buy your pass. Some of the parks do a better job of emailing than others. I know this because I have Great America and over Texas emailing me all the time. -
Track Spottings!
sixflagsguy5 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
There's really no way to guess where it's going. For all we know it could be going to a park that isn't even operating yet, such as Six Flags Dubai or another park like that. It's most likely not a 2009 coaster, and especially in the US.
