TTD Prototype?
sixflagsguy5 replied to Markolodeon's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Yes, and I was just pointing out that it is obviously a fan drawing from an engineering perspective, which I have. Yes, in fact you could say I over-though my post before clicking the "submit" button. I didn't even bother mentioning that you would need an unreal amount of friction and/ or wind resistance for this ride to work without killing someone, but I did imply this in the KNEX comment. KNEX coaster models have insane energy losses due to friction and lack of close wheel contact, plus the fact that the wheels will "slide" over the track rather than rotate, because lubrication from the axles in the wheel assembly goes onto the track. I was pointing out that this would be a really cool design to make out of KNEX, because it would work so well with the energy loss. -

This is very good to hear. I'm glad they got the ride running again. -
TTD Prototype?
sixflagsguy5 replied to Markolodeon's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
This design would work if you made it out of KNEX. Otherwise the turns and bunny hills would be taken too fast. Keep in mind that this also would have cost a lot more to build and the capacity would be a nightmare. I used to draw stuff like this when I was 10 years old too. -
I had a layover flight in Dallas Fort Worth on the way home from Mexico City and I was able to see Six Flags Over Texas from the air. I have to say that Texas Giant looks much more impressive "up close" than it does in pictures. The drop looks completely out of place and insane, which are both good things about this ride. I really think that the result of this project will be much better than many people had originally expected. Can't wait to ride it in 2011

It really isn't that bad for either chain. Six Flags with parking is about $130 (at SFGAM at least) and Cedar Fair is usually around $150 if you get it early. Cedar Fair passes are even cheaper if you plan on just going to your homepark, so I'd say it's a good deal. No matter what the price, the people who really want the passes will still get them.

Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread

I still don't get why people call them "flat rides"... this is taller than most roller coasters! I'm really excited for the whole lot! I especially like the Point's version's location. Tower ride... I make one post a month, does it really matter what you call it? Anyways, I'm glad that they are adding something to that side of the park. I always like going to a park and having a good balance of new/ somewhat new rides throughout the park. Also, I like the restraints on these. I really don't think having a sliding bar on a chain is enough on any swing ride. -

Looks really cool. I'm not really a fan of flats, but I really liked the smaller version of this at Martin's Fantasy Island (not sure if it's the same manufacturer). -

Tree topper at upper clements -
If the Whizzer was really that difficult to maintain, I doubt they would run 3 trains most of the time. They would use the 3rd as a parts donor or as a backup for when one of the others needed to wait on a custom made part that would take too long to manufacture/ ship. Plus keep in mind that they just build the little dipper which I'm guessing is not easy to find parts for.

Everyone, I just wanted to mention that I rarely participate in any online voting or cause groups. However, this coaster looks sweet and I think it can get in the top 10 for this competition. A lot of the other "causes" are really unnecessary. There's one for dogs getting neutered- isn't that the owner's responsibility? Anyways, take the 3 minutes to vote for this coaster. It's easier than emailing Dan for a bag of crap and it could mean that you will get to ride a coaster in the future that you normally wouldn't have gotten to ride.

^ Don't forget that the ACE code of conduct requires all members to talk positively about parks and rides to the media. So if an ACEr rides Mean Streak and the news is there, they can't tell the truth... I do think Sky Rocket looks sweet though and it looks very smooth from the POV (like most new coasters). -

I'm very surprised to hear that it's not that good. I guess you really can't judge a book by its cover. -

I've always told myself that when I become a millionaire I'll have a custom 60ft intamin coaster in my backyard and nobody else will get to ride it. -

I was at the park on Sunday and rode I305 for the first time. I noticed the trims on the first drop but mainly because I was expecting them. The first drop has good airtime in the back car (row 15) and doesn't really decelerate that much. Basically the trims cause the remaining portion of the first drop to maintain a constant speed rather than accelerating. There is still a lot of blacking out on the first turn after the drop. For me it was mainly in the 2nd half of the turn and entering into the bunny hill. If this ride were any more intense in the first turn I would not like it at all. I am very happy that they added the trims, because it makes the ride experience much better. The first bunny hill would have much more airtime without the trims, but what's the point of getting airtime while you're stick partially blacked out? Really the only solution to keeping the maximum airtime on the first bunny hill is to pull the trims and make the radius of the first turn larger. I don't think this is an option because of the location of Rebel Yell and because they already have invested $25 million into this ride. Why go through all the trouble and add costs to satisfy a small number of people? I do think this ride would be top 5 with this change. Besides that I was really impressed with the park as a whole. They still have a very controlled method of walking everyone through the park at opening and most staff members were very nice. It stormed for an hour on Sunday, resulting in one train operations on most rides after the storm (except Volcano and Flight of Fear). The park should figure out a way to run two trains in the rain, like Carowinds did with Intimidator after rain. However this is a problem for all of their parks, so it might take awhile. This is still one of my favorite parks and I am glad that Cedar Fair has kept it in good shape. Lastly, does anyone else think that the park should tear out Anaconda? The ride isn't all that great and takes up that entire lake space. They could fit a much better coaster in that space and actually utilize the lake besides having just a tunnel and some over the water aerials. -

Will Intimidator still be open this weekend or are they planning on having it shut down in order to add trims? Edit: After researching what's actually going on I realize this question is pointless. -
The track is a complete circuit. I don't think they have all layers of wood in place yet. There were about 6 or more people working on the ride yesterday. A lot of the station has been completed since opening day. There are still no trains on site. I think they painted a good portion of the ride too.
