  1. This looks really cool. I had no idea it wasn't an upcharge until reading your report. I'm just wondering if there's any way for you to hit your head on any of those steel beams. I've done a high ropes course before and when you fell you would go down about 4 feet. They had a balance beam at the YMCA that I did the course at and you could definitely knock your teeth out if you fell. I'm also wondering how much you fall, because if someone were to fall and have trouble pulling themselves back onto the beam it could slow down capacity. This seems like a very good attraction. I would guess that after checking out this attraction many families will better consider doing the zip line tour. I really like how all of their new attractions fit into the park well and aren't out of place.
  2. I'm very impressed with this ride. Even though it's not a huge coaster, it still looks like a lot of fun and it's very different from the typical family coaster.
  3. Two questions: 1) Can I sign up my fiance as a "family member" for $5 additional? 2) For the King's Island Beast/ Diamondback walkback can we bring a friend with us if we are a club TPR member? I'm just asking, because it isn't specified under the benefits list, but I know with a platinum pass or an ACE card you can bring a friend.
  4. I just want to note that both places that I've been with alpine coasters have not only allowed me to take pictures/ video, but have encouraged it. I think it's because if you drop the camera you don't risk hitting someone else in the head. Also, if you go to ride an alpine coaster I'd suggest riding at least twice. They're usually about $10 a ride, but you really need to ride at least twice to enjoy it, because the first time you will most likely use the trim brakes quite a bit. The WISP resort actually doesn't like people using the trim brakes, because there is a higher risk of a crash/ bump occurring. Little kids and parents with little kids tend to trim quite a bit and that can be a hazard for someone that is cruising down the mountain with little trimming. Are there any unknown alpine coasters in the US or Canada besides: 1) WISP in Maryland 2) Park City in Utah 3) Glenwood Caverns in Colorado 4) Jiminy Peak Mountain Resort in Massachusetts I know there are alpine slides all over the place, but I'm more interested in alpine coasters.
  5. It supposed to be a really nice park. The problem is it was never really on the map for many people (not just enthusiasts), because they hadn't had a coaster for so long. I think this is a much better move than they think it's going to be.
  6. I think this has the potential to work out really well and it will be a lot of fun to ride. In fact, it could end up being a top coaster. However, it is a steel coaster. It doesn't matter what a group of marketing people for Six Flags think. It is steel by definition and they can advertise it as whatever they want, but it will never make it in any official record books for having anything related with being a wooden coaster. I'm sure they will advertise it as a being one of a kind and having the steepest drop. But that has nothing to do with what will actually work for record books. It's similar to CGA building the Survivor "roller coaster." They advertised it as a coaster, but it's not actually considered one.
  7. It looks very similar to the day we went there this summer. Klondike Goldrusher must have just opened after I visited the park, because we went around mid-July and it was completely closed and still being worked on. Overall it was a really nice little park and I wish we would have had more than 2 hours there.
  8. I think the idea behind the seat belts is to make sure there isn't any chance of someone sliding out through the area between the harness and the seat nub. Besides that I don't see a reason for them. Most B&M coasters that have inversions keep you against the back of the seat for most of the ride. It's nice knowing that there's no way that restraint will go up during the ride.
  9. I like midgetman's. It would have been much better if you had Sinise dumping the pasta on the kid's head.
  10. That looks like the best alpine coaster. I've been on the one at Glenwood Caverns in Colorado and the one at Wisp Resort in Maryland. Both of those are much shorter than the one in Austria, but they're still worth visiting.
  11. ^^^The Twisted Twins trains were under Batman during Fright Fest this year. I don't know if they took a lot off of them, but they looked to be in fairly normal condition. I would assume that they didn't use Screamin' Eagle's trains. I was there close to before it opened and I rode Screamin' Eagle with regular trains. So unless they decided last minute to take off the trains and put them on Boss (over a period of 3 days or so) I would assume that they used G-Trains. I was 10 years old, so don't take my word for it.
  12. I completely agree that it should not count as a wood coaster. The whole idea behind a wood coaster is that you have a half inch thick steel rail connected to several layers of wood. Whatever the manufacturer decides to do from there doesn't matter, as long as that part is constructed as described. The fact that they're keeping wood trains on this ride does not mean that it is a wood coaster. Yes, it has wood supports, but to me it seems like they're only keeping those supports so that they can continue to call it Texas Giant and advertise it by using its original reputation to their advantage. Yes it's smart, but it does not count as a wood coaster, no matter what they advertise it as. I'm still not convinced that this ride will even function as they have planned. The fact of the matter is that they still have "boxcar" type trains on the ride, which is probably a main contributor to the ride roughening up. It would be wise for them to get trains that don't have two fixed sets of wheels on each car. Overall I think this is a very good idea and good marketing move by Six Flags. It will be a great addition/ upgrade to Six Flags Over Texas and I think it will get a lot of attention from park go-ers.
  13. This is a very good idea. Keep the existing wooden structure, so that you have the bend factor that wood has for the truss structure. And then use steel I-beams for the ties, so that you eliminate the 7 or so layers of wood that are used for the track from moving. Basically it seems to me that they're creating a whole new meaning for hybrid wooden coaster. You have a mixture of wood and steel for the supports and you have a typical wooden coaster track on top of those supports. It's kind of like they're using what they have and trying to make it a hybrid structure. A 95 degree turn would be really cool on this coaster, especially if you're taking it a decent speed. The sensation of being inverted (not an inversion though) will be really cool going through a wooden structure.
  14. The restraints on Storm Runner and Maverick never really bothered me that much. Both rides are very smooth and there isn't much headbanging. I'm 6'3" so if anything hits the restraint it will be my neck instead of my ears. Maybe it's a different case for people who are shorter.
  15. I'd probably go with SFGADV or King's Dominion. I don't know where you're from or what your summer plans are, but what I would probably do is go with your spring trip to SFGADV and then do a summer trip to King's Dominion and Busch Gardens. Great Adventure has a lot of good coasters and it would be nice to avoid longer lines by going in the spring.
  16. I'm actually somewhat excited for this. I had a lot of fun when I went to La Ronde in 2008 and it's still one of my favorite non-themed parks. I think the idea of having a coaster built partly over the lake is cool. I've been on most of the SLC's in North America with the exception of Kong and the one at Six Flags Mexico and yes, some of them really beat you around. However, they're still fun to ride. I think the idea of having an "extreme" coaster that will beat the crap out of you is something that could be marketed better. If the non-enthusiasts see the ride as being advertised as a ride that will beat the crap out of you, it's something that may be appealing to a certain audience. Here's a comparison for some of you to think about. When Six Flags Great America had both Shockwave and Demon, nobody seemed to complain about it. In fact, many enthusiasts complained when the park chose to take out Shockwave. It wasn't the best coaster on the market, but it was still fun to ride. This is a little off topic, but I was just wondering if anyone knows whether or not the other side (left side of station) will be operating on Monstre this year. My friend and I really liked the right side and the left side looks a little bit different than the right side.
  17. I think this is a very good idea, even for people who would not be going on TPR trips. The idea of having early admission at parks and discounts would be ideal for me. That's the only reason that I'm still an ACE member, especially because the events aren't that exciting. So basically my answer is that I would get a TPR premium membership if park perks/ events were offered with it. Great idea
  18. Does anyone know which side(s) of Colossus have been open recently? If my friends decide to bail on our Guatemala idea we might be going to SFMM instead. I've been on the side of Colossus that's on the right of the entrance, so I was hoping that maybe they've been running the left side or they've been alternating sides on a certain time schedule.
  19. If I'm available to ride coasters this weekend I'm going to Holiday World for sure. The coastermania schedule seems very disappointing.
  20. ^ It's basically a credit run for my friends who haven't been there. I'll probably just ride S:RoS and Joker's Jinx most of the time. One of my friends just got into coasters so all he worries about is his coaster count. He really wanted to go to Great Adventure, but I convinced him that adding SFA and KD is a better deal, because it's much more credits. This way I get to ride Intimidator. Has anyone been to any of those smaller Canadian parks? I'm looking for any advice/ information that I wouldn't know about Wild Water & Wheels, Zoo de Granby, Mega Parc, Crystal Palace, Upper Clements, Sandspit, Atlantic Playland, and Shining Waters.
  21. How in the world are you going to pull this off in one day? Day 9 -Six Flags America (10:30am-noon) -Drive 4hr 30min -Kennywood (5pm-10pm) -Drive 45min -Fun Fore All (10pm-11pm) I can't remember if Fun Fore All has their coaster open that late though. We tried to go there last year, but we wouldn't have gotten there until 30min after closing. Kennywood can close earlier than 10pm, so if they close early we might go to fun fore all. If they stay open until 10 and we're having a lot of fun with night rides we probably won't leave just to ride a kiddie coaster. When I have some I need to figure out how much this whole thing is going to cost.
  22. I went there a while ago. It's a fun little waterpark and we really liked their tube slides. They could use an expansion for sure.
  23. First trip is happening for sure: Day 1: -Marineland -Canada's Wonderland Day 2: -Canada's Wonderland if needed for my friend to get all credits -Neb's Funworld (if we have enough time) -Wild Water & Wheels -Kingston Park (if we have enough time) Day 3: -Zoo de Granby -La Ronde Day 4: -Mega Parc -Crystal Palace (New Brunswick) Day 5: -Upper Clements -Atlantic Playland -Shining Waters -Sandspit Beach Day 6: -Funtown Splashtown USA -Palace Playland -Canobie -Jiminy Peak Day 7: -Six Flags New England -Lake Compounce -Quassy Day 8: -Kings Dominion Day 9: -Six Flags America -Kennywood -Fun Fore All Day 10: -Conneaut -Waldameer Besides that I'd like to: -Fly to San Francisco -Driving trip to go to Cliff's and Kemah -Weekend trip to visit family near dollywood and also go to Waterville USA -Day trip to Bay Beach IF they get a coaster
  24. Terror twister 2 was awesome this year. I only got to ride it once, but it was a really big improvement from the original terror twister.
  25. Nice pictures. Australia is on the top of my wish list for study abroad/ coasters.
