In the past I've been told about new rides coming to parks around me way before they were announced. Even though some of these new rides were the stupidest additions ever in my opinion, I never went on websites (including my own) telling people about it. I promised the person/ people who told me that I wouldn't tell and kept my word because that's just how you're supposed to do things. The other thing is, you shouldn't have to prove anything to anyone. If the person who gave you all this information is telling the truth, you should be satisfied that you know and you should just look forward to the new ride. It seems to me that whoever told you this information told you on purpose because they knew what your reaction would be and they wanted more people to get anxious about the new ride. Also, you shouldn't be posting about your friend and dad's involvment with designing some of Hershey's rides in the past. If the park thinks that inside information is getting out because of them, guess who's in trouble.

The new ownership will definately benefit Wild Adventures. My guess is that they realized that there is so much room for expansion. The only thing that worries me is how hot it can get at Wild Adventures. I've been there twice and both times it was ridiculously hot out. It will be interesting to see how the company handles this.

Waldameer Discussion Thread
sixflagsguy5 replied to Millennium ForceJZ's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I couldn't have explained it better. I'm hoping that this coaster (and Boardwalk Bullet) are a little bit less aggressive with lateral g's, but stay the same with negative and positive g's. I've ridden Hades and Voyage, but haven't ridden Boardwalk Bullet, so it's hard to say whether or not a smaller sized Gravity Group woodie will be less aggressive. Waldameer really has a nice coaster coming along. They've struggled so much to get this coaster to be built and I hope everything works out for them. I plan on riding this coaster next August. -
SFNO/Jazzland Discussion Thread
sixflagsguy5 replied to SharkTums's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I hope that they reopen it, but I'm sure they have no motivation to get the park back open. I don't think they had much business before the hurricane and I'm sure business would be even worse with less people living there. Thanks for the update. -
I think it's so stuff doesn't hit people below. They have them on Viper (SFGAM) right when the train comes out of the station and crosses over the exit. As you saw above, Hades has them, because there's an entrance there (group sales I think). I'm sure that they can also be used to cross over the track, but they probably have to be carefull on the steep hills.

Geauga Lake Discussion Thread
sixflagsguy5 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
At No Coaster Con whoever represents Geauga Lake/ Cedar Point is going to get bombarded with questions. At the same time, they'll probably have all kinds of cool stuff for sale/ auction and hopefully they'll give some cool stuff away. It's too bad though. -
Geauga Lake Discussion Thread
sixflagsguy5 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
There were a lot of posts about about some of the "rough" Cedar Fair rides. Personally I like Timber Wolf and Big Dipper. Both were decent in front row. Villain was rough as hell, so I'm hoping that they either scrap it or move it to a new park with new trains. I think it would be wise to test out new trains on Villian in Spring 2008 just to make sure that it will work and that it doesn't need serious retracking. If that idea turns out to work, then Worlds of Fun would be a good idea, although they could use a floorless coaster too (Dominator). I think that Dominator would fit in well at King's Dominion. If KD is looking to have a full variety of coasters, then they definately need a hyper and a floorless. I'm very disappointed about this removal mainly because of Raging Wolf Bobs. When I plan my trips, I plan them around whats the most important to me. In order these things are 1- wooden credits, 2- awesome looking coasters, 3- parks with the most # of coasters/ credits, 4- credits. I went to Geauga Lake this August on the way home from my East coast trip because of the slight possibility that the park might close. Thunderhawk and Raging Wolf Bobs were closed, so I'm missing my credit on both. I hope that they keep Big Dipper and Raging Wolf Bobs, because they're classic rides. We'll have to see what Cedar Fair thinks. I can see why they would want the park out of the way though. They can bring in the same amount of money as before with just Cedar Point, because people that would have regularly gone to GL will just go to CP now. I don't think that King's Island is a threat to CP b/c it's a good 4 hours away and competes with SFKK, Holiday World, Indiana Beach, and all of the small parks around there. -
Holiday World (HW) Discussion Thread
sixflagsguy5 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'm not a big fan of waterparks, but I've always admired Holiday World's ways of building up their park. I'm a big Holiday World fan and think that any decision they make is usually the best thing to do. I trust their judgement much more than Six Flags. It's kind of weird how they're naming their new area after the park who built a coaster by the same company that built Voyage... -
Wooden coasters cost much less than steel coasters for some reason. I haven't really understood why things are this way, because I would think that wood requires much more work to put together vs a steel coaster that can have its pieces lifted into place and then bolted. The only catch to buying a wooden coaster is that they cost more to maintain (I think so at least). So price-wise, I could see why a park would want to go with wood rather than steel. Honestly I could care less what Six Flags St. Louis gets next year as long as its a coaster. I'd prefer that the park gets something that's not a clone, but if that's what happens then it's still a credit. I saw pictures of the dismantled kiddie coaster behind Boss. Is there news on whether or not that ride is being moved to a different location or if the ride is being taken out of the park for good? Also, when they had the kiddie coaster operating, was there a maximum height restriction? I could never find where the ride was, so I never got a chance to score a credit on it.

Lucky for us, a 17 year old isn't running the park. SFStL is getting another woodie whether you think it is the right move or not. I don't think age is the issue here. You're definately out of line bringing my age into the equation on this one. First of all, I have a perfectly valid point with my view on what I think SFSTL should get coaster-wise. Whether you agree with my opinion or not has nothing to do with my age. If a thirteen year old who has ridden 150 different coasters thought that SFSTL should build a 500ft rocket coaster, that's great for him. Now I'm sure that plenty of people would disagree with him, but that's no reason to bring his age into the equation. Personally I don't think that a wooden coaster is a good move for the park. From what I've experienced as a coaster enthusiast for the past 4 years, an ACE member for 3 years, an administrator on a website for 3 years, and from the 323 different roller coasters I've ridden, I think that it's a dumb move. I'm sure if I stuck my cute little coaster fanatics ride tracker in my profile you wouldn't have made a snotty post about my opinion because you would have realized that I've been on a lot of coasters and have a good opinion on things. Now, getting back to the discussion of SFSTL's rumored coaster. I still think that they need a hyper coaster. I've thought this since I was 10 years old and first visited the park until this season when I re-visited the park to get my credit on Tony Hawk's Big Spin. Wooden coasters are nice to have at parks, but if you think about it, to the average amusement park visitor, they're just another type of roller coaster, just like inverted, looping, and launch coasters. They don't think "ooh we should go to Six Flags over and over because they got a GCI wooden coaster." I don't think that a wooden coaster would make a big impression for the general public. I also think that the park should fix up their Boss. Why would Six Flags spend 2+ million dollars on a new wooden coaster when they already have one and could make it more popular by making it less rough. Wooden coaster are less expensive initially, but have much higher maintenance costs than steel coasters do. I'm sure Six Flags is considering that also. I'd just like to point out that the main reason I post on this site is because of the friendly atmosphere and the awesome photo trip reports. I help run a Midwest based website and don't come on here just to post crap and mess around. I come on here to argure and discuss in depth topics on the amusement industry with people who have also been on many roller coasters and have a good knowledge of the industry also. I'd prefer it if people didn't look down on me just because I'm not that old. Many roller coaster enthusiasts don't start until their older, but that doesn't give them any more knowledge than me. Thanks for understanding where I'm coming from.

Six Flags vs. Cedar Fair
sixflagsguy5 replied to RIP Psyclone's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'm now a Cedar Fair fan. I was a Six Flags fan up until last year. Ever since Snyder has taken over Six Flags, most of the additions have been about "family" attractions. I like the old view of having a new good coaster ever couple of years with small park improvements inbetween coasters. I know a lot of people are saying that "it's better for the parks," but I'm still not convinced. Six Flags Great America added Wiggles World this year, but in my opinion did a horrible job of making any noticable changes to other parts of the park. If they're going with the cheaper "family" approach, then they may as well do a good job with it. Cedar Fair on the other hand added new coasters to some of their parks (parks owned prior to 2006) and fixed up the parks that they had just bought. Although I'm not a huge Cedar Point fan, the park really impressed me this year with Maverick. I had also never been into Camp Snoopy and I thought that it was a very nice area. -
Top Gun at Carowinds
sixflagsguy5 replied to Sue's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
At least they warned you. I had a friend that drove all the way from Universal to Boomers to find their wooden coaster closed!! They said it wouldn't be open for at least three days, so all that drive was for nothing. Hopefully they can get Top Gun running soon with multiple trains. -
The guy who runs Amusement Safety Organization posts on my site once in awhile. He's a nice guy and I have nothing bad to say about him. However, I think that his site takes some of the reports too seriously. Coasters are going to somewhat rough (especially wooden coasters and simulators). I prefer coasters that push the limits of the human body to the extreme, such as rough wooden coasters, fast coasters, and coasters with crazy amounts of negative g's (superman ride of steel). I think that the site would be much more trustworthy if they didn't report every minor accident, but only the major ones, such as major rough spots and unsafe ride operations. Rides are designed to the safest degree, so I think that he is much better off looking for flaws in small parks running their rides unsafely vs rough spots on multimillion dollar roller coasters. I'm not trying to argue with anyone, I'm just discussing his site, so I'd prefer not to deal with any flame posts.

I also try not to look like a coaster enthusiast when I go to Six Flags Great America. This is because the ride ops there are anti "ACEr" even though half the people they're mean to aren't official ACE members. Kinda funny IMO.

I'm not too sure I'd feel safe going to Russia. My cousin wanted to adopt a kid from Russia for some reason even though she already has three kids of her own and can't even take care of them. From what she's told us, the government over there is still wacky. I don't know much about current events because I'm a math guy, but I'll take her word for it. It would be interesting to go to Russia to ride some of the PAX coasters.
-
Someone had a presentation at No Coaster Con in 2006 about how to get your kids to ride coasters. I forgot what they said, but it would be interesting if he did an update this year.

I saw a bunch of SFMM tr's from last year during Spring. Worst case is that I just tell everyone when I'm going and maybe someone will want to chill at the park.

Dudley Do Right's Ripsaw Falls
sixflagsguy5 replied to sixflagsguy5's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
The rule I go by is whether or not rcdb.com counts it as a coaster (or has it in their database). This coaster isn't in their database, so I don't count it. Thanks for the information and the quick responses. -
I was on coasterfanatics.com awhile ago and I noticed that they count Dudley Do Right's Ripsaw Falls as a coaster credit. I was looking at some of their pictures and noticed coaster-like track in one of the pictures. I've ridden the ride and I know how it has a big bunny hill after the big drop. Does this make it count as a coaster? I know that there are people who don't count any water coasters, so please don't start a whole topic about that. For those of you who do count water coaster though, do you count this one or not? Lastly, did the ride use to be a log flume and they recently added coaster track or have there ever been any rehabs on the ride?

2007 Golden Tickets Announced
sixflagsguy5 replied to CoasterFanatic's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I was thinking that Dollywood would win some award, because they hosted the event and that's usually the equivalent to a bribe.
