  1. 2017 is definitely an "off-year" for parks, but maybe it just seems that way because 2015 and 2016 were fantastic years, particularly for the US. 2015 (in the US): -2 huge, innovative B&Ms -Stand-up to Floorless conversion -2 great RMCs on opposite ends of the country -S&S 4D Free Spin (new and innovative at the time) -Huge custom in-house coaster -Premier SkyRocket 2016 (in the US): -2 huge B&Ms -3 awesome RMCs -S&S 4D Free Spin -Premier SkyRocket -Several much-needed restorations (GhostRider, Revolution, Legend, Bizarro/Superman) -Very unique Mack spinner -GaleForce (2017?) -VR (if you count that as a good thing?) I guess a major off-year was expected soon, and 2017 is that year.
  2. Going west on the 91 through south LA I would guess that it is headed towards one of our ports, since the 91 connects to the 110 and 710. How did I not think of this. I bet you're right.
  3. Woah. Weird find... I have absolutely no idea. It has to be for something in California, and I think it's safe to say that SFMM, SFDK, and CGA are ruled out. That leaves potential boardwalk parks and Knott's... EDIT: Also remember, Knott's is a year round park and could very well make an announcement later on and open a new attraction in the winter (like GhostRider and Silver Bullet). I don't see why, but it's probably just the little Knott's fanboy in me hoping we FINALLY get a new coaster.
  4. Also Cedar Fair CEO Matt Ouimet has said that they want to always keep GhostRider as original as possible due to it being one of the last rides Walter Knott helped design. Boy am I glad they did. I think it's perfect the way it is right now. I never got a chance to ride it when it was originally great, so I always imagined how great it used to be, but I had no idea until I got on it this month. Also, isn't Jeff Gahagan fascinating to listen to? He is very tight lipped during group Q&A's, but if you get him one on one or in a small group he is just a wealth of fascinating stories and details. No thank you. See above paragraph. You really should try Ghost Rider. I don't know how many parks would be willing to invest the time and money like KBF did to really overhaul the whole ride like that but GCI sure proved they can do it and do it right. But how long is it going to last? They didn't take care of the original ride. Some GCI's have gotten super rough. And I have heard Boulder Dash is pretty bad now. And I am more confident in RMC throwing in crazy, intense elements where GCI is more gentle. Just a personal preference. Just because the original ride was unbearably rough does not necessarily mean Knott's didn't take care of it. The park is open 364 days a year, and the ride has been operating more or less consistently every day since it opened in 1998. Taking this into consideration, along with the fact that the ride has an extra stiff structure due to seismic specifications in CA, it's almost impossible to keep the ride smooth. That being said, I'm also very curious about how long this restoration will last due to these very reasons. Gold Striker just finished its 4th season of operation and from what I've heard, it's still just as great as ever. Time will tell.
  5. I use Twitter far more than any other social media platform. It's basically my source for everything: theme parks, school stuff, news, politics, etc. I love it and will probably continue to use it for a long time.
  6. Perilous Plunge (KBF) Windseeker (KBF) Old GhostRider (if you count that) Old Revolution (if you count that) Colossus (SFMM) Deja Vu (SFMM) Disaster Transport (CP) Mantis (CP) Mean Streak (CP)
  7. Interesting discussion. I think the major factor, like another poster mentioned, is price. Why would a park pour all that money into a coaster to improve it when they could use that money towards another brand new coaster? Of course, it depends on the level of modification and the size of the coaster, but for most rides the size of the large Arrows (Viper, Anaconda, Vortex), it may be more cost-worthy to spend that money on a completely new ride that is easier to market. But Cedar Fair is taking off with the whole Rougarou-esque transformation, and they seem to market it well, so what do I know. Price was just the first thing that came to my mind. Also, when did Raptor's brake run transition get "fixed"? I last rode it in 2014, and it was as snappy as ever!
  8. This looks awesome! I'm definitely gonna follow this project.
  9. LOL. Looking back at this post, I find it hilarious how I thought 2016 would be an "off-year" for me when, in reality, it was my biggest travel year! Just goes to show how plans can change at any given moment. Here are the parks I visited for the first time this year. Oddly enough, the only one on this list that I predicted in my earlier post is SFGAdv. 1. Hersheypark 2. Dorney Park 3. Six Flags New England 4. Six Flags Great Adventure 5. Six Flags America If things go well, I may also visit Six Flags Discovery Kingdom (and possibly CGA depending on Winterfest hours) for the first time this Winter Break. I find it funny that, living in SoCal, I've been to several parks on the East Coast, yet I still haven't been to any of the NorCal parks. I'm excited to try Joker & S:UF!
  10. Mean Streak getting the RMC treatment seems so obvious by now. I'm just wondering why they didn't announce it back in August when every other CF park made their announcement. I'm really trying to keep my expectations low, though. But, if so, Ohio is definitely the place to be next year!
  11. I would definitely be disappointed if the park removed Viper; it's easily one of my favorite Arrows out there. I don't have any major issues with roughness on the ride, and it's a classic. That being said, if removing Viper means we can get another huge new awesome coaster like Valravn or Maverick or what have you, then I get it. Gotta take a few steps back in order to move forwards sometimes.
  12. But sometimes, parks can Gather Certain Information from the condition of their wooden coasters and decide to go another route in order to keep a classic wooden coaster feel.
  13. I still have a suspicious feeling that Cedar Point has something up its sleeve for Mean Streak next year. Since RMC hasn't announced any 2017 installments as of yet, I'm even more convinced. Kennywood and Silverwood are also likely possibilities. Regardless of where it's installed, I'm crossing my fingers for a T-rex coaster somewhere soon! If not next year, at least 2018!
  14. Every Intamin Accelerator in the US Every Invertigo in the US Every Arrow Hyper in the US (don't count Phantom) Every coaster over 400 feet Every Arrow Suspended in the US
  15. Looks like a great coaster! Vekoma has been upping their game lately; I hope more parks buy from them in the future. I'd love to see one of their new giant looping coasters get installed somewhere!
  16. I've never been a fan of uniformly-painted coasters (like T3) as well as "rainbow" coasters that change track color during the course (Carolina Cyclone). Otherwise, any coaster that has a solid track color and solid support color is more or less fine by me. I actually like Valravn's scheme quite a bit!
  17. Let's hope that with this floorless conversion comes an actual station building with a roof!
  18. Is it just me, or is Led Zeppelin (whatever it's called) hauling butt through that course? It looks like it's going WAY faster than what it did at Hard Rock!
  19. Unfortunately I won't be able to make it this year due to other commitments. I hope you all have fun, and I can't wait to see coverage!
  20. Looks like a great addition! Hopefully I can FINALLY make it up to SFDK next year after living in SoCal my whole life and never visiting the northern parks. While there is only one new custom coaster between both chains, I am pleased to see that something is coming to EVERY park, with a big chunk of those being much-needed flat rides.
  21. I find it very refreshing that we are seeing a huge increase in the number of flat rides added to US parks recently, both from Six Flags and Cedar Fair.
  22. My little sister and I were the only ones on Sooperdooperlooper at Hersheypark last June. It was one of the last rides of the night, and she loved it!
  23. I wonder what we'll see in the dry park in 2017, if anything. Normally they make that announcement in November, but I imagine we will see something in addition to Soak City next year. I'd love to see a new flat ride or two; the park really needs that at the moment!
  24. I have not been on either of them, so I will choose Valravn based on its statistics alone. Dominator or Superman: Krypton Coaster?
  25. I FINALLY got my braces off! About time!
