  1. Maybe I'm weird, but I really enjoy Viper exactly the way it is and hope it stays around a while. As welcome as a huge new coaster would be in that spot, I would really miss the ride.
  2. This is the unfortunate truth. Although, I wouldn't be completely opposed to them removing Sky Cabin along with Boomerang and using that chunk of land for a new coaster!
  3. Nice report. I imagine the event will feel more "complete" once Patriot opens. Hopefully I can get some good use out of my 2017 Platinum Pass and visit this year. I'm probably late to this discussion, but why isn't this park year-round like every other major park in California?
  4. Not smooth. That's too bad. It was good in 2012. I think back then a lot had to do with the train being full or nearly empty (more or less weight means more or less friction between the wheels and track). I rode it 2 weeks before you guys did and to me it was the biggest piece of crap B&M ever made. It was even worse than Dragon Kahn back in '08. During my 2 rides (1 front seat and 1back seat) there was only 1 other guy on the train and it felt that it was riding on cobblestones. It got me a headache for the rest of the day. I don't know why it's even worse now, but maybe it has something to do with the foundation it's build on ot could it be purely maintenance issues? For some reason, B&M Floorless coasters are super temperamental, and the amount/weight of passengers in the train has a huge effect. At SFMM, when Scream's train is empty, the ride is awful and feels like you're riding on square wheels. But when the train is full or nearly full, it's actually pretty good. The 3 other Floorless coasters I've ridden (Hydra, Bizarro, Batman) seem to have had the same effect, especially Hydra.
  5. Xcelerator! No question. Six Flags New England
  6. So true! I remember when parks being open through the holidays was almost bragging rights for us SoCal people.... but now you guys are out riding Nitro in 30 degree weather! It's so awesome.
  7. Glad everyone is safe. Those passengers definitely have a story to tell for the rest of their lives.
  8. Yikes. It's Windseeker all over again. Hopefully they get evacuated soon!
  9. I wouldn't be a bit disappointed if stand-up coasters went completely extinct in the next decade or two. Aside from Riddler's Revenge (which I actually enjoy), all other stand-ups I've ridden are utterly terrible (Apocalypse, Green Lantern, and Mantis). I think Cedar Fair has the right idea with converting theirs into floorless coasters (even if the ride layouts are mediocre like the Vortexes). If Patriot is successful at CGA, I can almost guarantee we will see the Carowinds Vortex get converted for 2018 or 2019, completely ridding Cedar Fair of stand-ups. I wonder how long the ones at Six Flags will last.
  10. ^That would have been so awesome! But supposedly it was going to be built by Arrow, so...
  11. For Knott's, I usually head to Xcelerator first since it hardly has a line right at opening. I've had some mornings where I've been able to re-ride it several times without getting off for the first hour of the park opening, especially during the off-season. For SFMM, I usually run to X2 (yes, I'm one of those) or Twisted Colossus since both lines fill up quickly. Full Throttle gets hammered right at opening, so I don't even bother with that ride until later in the day when crowds are more spread out.
  12. The colors are growing on me too. I think I still prefer the black columns (like at SFGAdv), but this version is definitely unique and attention-grabbing. I wonder if the other two opening this year will use these colors as well.
  13. Darn. I'm heading up to the park tomorrow. Hopefully it's a little better than what you just described.
  14. You think this is bad? Check out the Darien Lake thread. I wouldn't be too sure about that. Darien Lake actually seems to be improving with reasonal, practical discussion, while this thread is constantly all over the place. Just giving credit where credit is due I bet the mods have had to clean up a lot more in this thread than in the DL thread, from what it seems.
  15. I'm sorry, but I think that mentality is just silly! There's nothing to be enthusiastic about in the United States? How about all the parks, coasters, and rides that, oh, I don't know, already exist? If your life as a coaster enthusiast is driven strictly by Rocky Mountain's installations, then I feel sorry for you. I wish that I could financially afford to be able to say, "maybe I'll take off from being a coaster enthusiast this year because there isn't anything new and exciting" - I'm happy getting to a single park at all in a year nowadays, even if it is Knoebels again. Knoebels is literally the only park I was able to make it to in 2016 (unless you count Disney Springs), and only because I was able to get on the last plane home when the hurricane ripped through southeast Georgia back in October. I wish that I could go ride all the Rocky Mountain Construction coasters, I wish I could go to all the Disney parks, I wish I could go on a Scandi Tour, but right now, I can't. So any time that I get to a park, whether it be Knoebels and Fun Spot, which I have visited the most, or some place new like Dollywood last year, it's a wonderful experience that makes me romp and jump around like a small child. I don't care how many times I've ridden the same coaster or gone to the same park - my enthusiasm comes from going to go play in the park and riding the coasters, regardless of what amazing new attraction was most recently installed. THIS x1000!
  16. In no way at all, aside from the track style, which is slighty different anyway I was going along the lines that they are both multi-launch Mack coasters, but I guess you're right. It's not like the GP will tell... just look at the Cedar Fair B&M Hyper/Giga combos at Carowinds and CW.
  17. Not quite sure how I feel about one of those. While different in a couple ways, it seems awfully similar to Manta. But like I said, with a park as dry as SWSD coaster-wise, anything is considered a welcome addition.
  18. I hope it's not a Sky Rocket II clone, although I wouldn't be surprised if it is. With both Superman: UF and Full Throttle (the latter being only 3 hours away), it wouldn't exactly be unique to California. If they are working with 150 feet, I'd love to see some type of B&M (haven't had a new one in CA since Tatsu in 2006), but we'll see how this plays out. I guess any new coaster is great for SWSD since it is the weakest park in the chain for coasters.
  19. While 2017 is a bit dry, the real reason could be the fact that the USA was completely spoiled in 2014, 2015, and 2016 with huge B&Ms both inside and outside the Cedar Fair chain, several RMCs, and other unique rides. We're still getting quite a few coasters next year (particularly wooden ones), but a year like 2017 was bound to happen at some point. Like others, I'm using it as an opportunity to go out and visit places I didn't get to this year (Kings Dominion and Carowinds, hopefully, to name a few).
  20. Goliath at SFMM is easily one of the smoothest coasters I've ever ridden. Even operating at a year-round park with a mediocre maintenance team who has to deal with a zillion other coasters at a time, I have never had a rough ride on Goliath, ever.
  21. Grades from first semester of senior year have been submitted and I couldn't be happier. A's in all my classes (4 of which are honors/AP). Got bumped 10 spots in my class rank from this semester alone. It was stressful but definitely worth it!
  22. What an awesome trip! You may have caught Wicked Cyclone on a bad day. When I rode it back in June, it FLEW into the brakes with tons of speed left. Maybe the weather played a role in your ride? It normally is not like the way you described it.
  23. I've never been fond of the noun-verbers in the Cedar Fair chain, but I'm glad to see they are pulling some original names out (Leviathan, Banshee, Valravn, Fury). At Knott's, Coast Rider is already a bad name, but placing it in a park that has "GhostRider" makes it even worse.
  24. Wow, they are adding some serious height to this ride. 2017 or 2018... I don't really care... it looks awesome! I would have preferred to see topper track instead so they could claim a ton of wooden coaster records (assuming they go 200 feet, which they easily could with this lift angle), but I'm not gonna complain about Cedar Fair finally getting an RMC. Can't wait to see a layout released.
  25. Me: OK, California, repeat after me. Me: "Win..." California: "Win..." Me: "ter..." California: "ter..." Me: "Winter" California: "Summer"
