  1. Yes, Six Flags is doing their announcements on Sept 1st this year. Not anticipating anything big for SFDK, but I'd love to see a drop tower added to the park. I second this. Even with the height limit being 150 feet, a drop tower would be a welcome addition.
  2. I guess you're right. My point was that Cedar Fair is straying away from the norm in 2017 by not adding a B&M. Whether that's a good or bad thing, I don't know. Just making an observation, that's all. I could have presented that better.
  3. It's unfortunate that KD overhyped this addition, but it's a nice addition. Not needed, but nice. Announcements are all about expectations. 2017 is an interesting year for CF parks. It is the first year since 2008 (excluding 2011) where they did not add a huge new B&M to one of their parks. 2008: Behemoth 2009: Diamondback 2010: Intimidator 2012: Leviathan 2013: GateKeeper 2014: Banshee 2015: Fury 325 2016: Valravn
  4. Kingda Ka @ Six Flags Great Adventure
  5. When it comes to this hobby, I basically "don't speak unless spoken to." If somebody starts talking about coasters to me, I may join in for fun. But I'm definitely not the type to correct someone on their statistics or talk someone's ear off about it. The funny part is, I find the stuff some enthusiasts say WAY more cringeworthy than anything the GP may say.
  6. Since there is already a Cedar Fair thread, I'll do Six Flags. Magic Mountain: Tough one. In order of probability: 1. Justice League 2. Flat package 3. 20th coaster. Discovery Kingdom: Major flat ride (drop tower of some sorts?). Over Texas: S&S 4D Free Spin. Fiesta Texas: Another tough one. This park may surprise us and add a new quarry wall coaster. St. Louis: S&S 4D Free Spin. Great America: Major flat ride. Maybe a Sky Screamer or Larson Loop. Over Georgia: Justice League. Mexico: S&S 4D Free Spin. If not, a Larson Loop. Great Adventure: Justice League. America: Relocated flats from SFGAm. Possibly a Sky Screamer as well? New England: S&S 4D Free Spin. Great Escape: Nothing major. Maybe a small flat ride or water park addition. It seems a little weird to have 4 Free Spins in one year, but all 4 parks seem to be pointing to that. I wouldn't be surprised if one or more of them were the larger extended models.
  7. This. Disney parks just aren't my personal cup of tea for that reason. I would rather pay half the price (sometimes even less) and get a season pass that can bring me to any Six Flags park in the country.
  8. For those who have ridden Phantom, what are the restraints like? I've been having a hard time finding an up-close photo of the seats. From what I can tell, they look similar to the S&S Screamin' Swing/Powder Keg lap bars? Is that true? If so, holy crap, I can't even imagine the airtime!
  9. Great video! I can't wait to eventually ride it. If it's anything like Wicked Cyclone or Twisted Colossus, it's a fantastic ride.
  10. How awful! This one was clearly a ride malfunction. Thoughts with everyone involved. Hopefully they are all OK. This is a weird observation, but amusement park incidents always seem to happen in pairs.
  11. Because if there's one thing Six Flags New England hates it's putting 2 rides that are essentially the same and have the same exact layout really close to each-other...
  12. If this was a decapitation, oh my goodness. I can't even fathom how terrible this must have been for the family and the witnesses of the incident. I wouldn't be too surprised if this slide is removed in the future. At the very least, the airtime hill should be flattened out as that seems to be causing the ride the most issues.
  13. This is terrible. My thoughts are with the boy's family and anyone who witnessed the accident. I am also intrigued if this was a ride malfunction or a lack of obeying the park rules. Either way, it's tragic.
  14. I have some fun facts regarding Batman clones. The clone at Six Flags St. Louis is the only mirrored version that operates with 8-car trains as opposed to 7. On the other hand, the clone at Parque Warner Madrid is the only regular (non-mirrored) version that operates with 7-car trains as opposed to 8. Lightning at Kuwait Entertainment City is the outlier. It is a regular version, however it operates with 6-car trains. Edit: Also, Lightning is the only Batman clone to have magnetic brakes.
  15. While I agree that GhostRider is more tame after the refurb, I think Cedar Fair did the right thing. Now that the ride is smooth and comfortable, it appeals to a huge audience as it is still large and thrilling enough for the thrill seekers.
  16. I'm very intrigued that many of Cedar Fair's smaller parks (Valleyfair, Worlds of Fun, Dorney Park) all have announcements lined up soon. I can't help but think that all 3 of them are receiving something similar.
  17. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think the Hershey Tower rotates. It just has circular seating. Unless I missed it in the press release...
  18. Basically, any day the park is open from 10-6, you won't see big lines (unless it's Scary Farm).
  19. I highly doubt it will be open by then, but it's always a possibility. I think the ride is absolutely terrible (yes, even in the front row), so you aren't missing much other than one credit.
  20. With all the problems Cedar Fair has had with the Windseekers, I wouldn't be surprised to see them go with a Funtime Star Flyer. I think it would be a nice change of pace. I loved the ones at SFNE and SFGAdv. But then again, they just purchased from Mondial for the ride at Kings Dominion, so this could be a new Windseeker after all. We'll have to wait and see.
  21. I agree. It's nice to have some middle ground between a frog hopper and a standard 200+ foot drop tower. Even if one of the towers ends up getting "ignored," that just means short lines for us!
  22. Looks like you guys had a ton of fun! Thanks for sharing all the photos!
  23. ^Sounds like a lot of fun! I finally got my learner's permit. I'm over a year late, but better late then never. I will hopefully get my license in February!
  24. It's definitely a...weird...addition, but I'm relieved it's not an Intamin Ultra Tower (I never understood those things). I love S&S towers! I agree that the 130-foot tower may get ignored, but we'll see!
  25. It is definitely a drop tower. The question is what type. I guess we'll have to wait and see!
