haiderodes Posted June 7, 2006 Posted June 7, 2006 So I was reading the thread on most messed up coaster moments and I starting thinking about sharp stops on coasters. You know the feeling...train enters the brake run and BAM train stops and you keep moving forward into the restraint. I wanted to know if you are sadistic enough to actually like these sharp stops and/or which rides that you've experienced have the most powerful ending brake runs? For me its first set of brakes at the end of California Screamin'. Close second is Manhattan Express, theres like a trillion sets of brakes between the last bunny hop and the unload station.
SLUSHIE Posted June 7, 2006 Posted June 7, 2006 USF Mummy has a couple really sharp stops. Sheikra has A pretty smooth stop, but it is really quick. at the end brake run te magnets slow you down fast, but your still moving prety good when your through them, then the nomal breaks slam on really hard. Since it's not a complete stop though you dont hit the harness very hard.
mightypotato Posted June 7, 2006 Posted June 7, 2006 Vortex at PCW is pretty bad. You're coming through the last turn at a fairly decent speed, then you hit the brake run and *KA-FWOMP!* you come to a complete stop extremely quickly. In fact, the support structure at the brake run actually shakes when it happens. Its the only part I don't really like about this otherwise awesome ride.
Homer Posted June 7, 2006 Posted June 7, 2006 USF Mummy Then, theres GASM at SFOG. Geez that train slows so fast that I almost hit my head on the train edge.
TheStig Posted June 7, 2006 Posted June 7, 2006 Any Vekoma SLC stops pretty hard, and I agree with Homer, GASM stops REAL quick, but still manages to enter the turn before the station! Colin C
jmccalip Posted June 7, 2006 Posted June 7, 2006 Texas Cyclone had a sharp stop. It hit the brake run at about 40mph and stopped in about 1.5seconds.
BeemerBoy Posted June 7, 2006 Posted June 7, 2006 Close second is Manhattan Express, theres like a trillion sets of brakes between the last bunny hop and the unload station. I concur. Second only to GASM @ SFOG....well the sharp stop, at least.
YoshiFan Posted June 7, 2006 Posted June 7, 2006 Wild Mouse at Dorney Park, you slam into the restraint at the final brake (as well at some other brakes throughout the ride)
coastakid Posted June 7, 2006 Posted June 7, 2006 I have 2. Wild Mouse at Playland Park In Rye, New York. They even have a sign that says sharp stop, brace yourself. I dont listen, put my hands up and get a bloody nose..hehe..and S:ROS at SFNE. It goes from likke 50, to 0 in about 1.5 seconds
XII Posted June 7, 2006 Posted June 7, 2006 Any Wild Mouse and while Xcelerators stop is really smooth, its really sudden.
Neogreeneyez Posted June 7, 2006 Posted June 7, 2006 I saw a video once of a woddie that stopped really hard and I'm trying to remember where I saw it. It might have been on one of the videos for the annual contest... I can't remember what it was but the coaster looked like it hit a brick wall and gave everyone on board whiplash. It looked like it really hurt tho lol
Shockwave Posted June 7, 2006 Posted June 7, 2006 Tonnerre De Zeus. Possibly one of the funniest sights you'll ever see. The train still has lots of speed coming into the brakerun, and then it's whiplash central! A great end to a truly great ride. Robb & Elissa have a great backset POV of TDZ: http://www.themeparkreview.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=17365
Stitch Posted June 7, 2006 Posted June 7, 2006 Vortex's (PKI) mid-course break run stops rather harshly.
pvcoasterguy Posted June 7, 2006 Posted June 7, 2006 For those of you saying that USF Mummy has a sudden stop, it was designed to be that fast (at the portion where the track stops) because it is supposed to simulate running into a wall... Although I could agree that the midcourse is a pretty sharp stop. For me, some of them are: Raging Bull, Viper, and Whizzer.
kidcoaster Posted June 7, 2006 Posted June 7, 2006 Dragon Mountain at Marineland. The mid course break slams you into the harnness
jarmor Posted June 7, 2006 Posted June 7, 2006 Lets see... 1)the traveling doppel looping 2)"good" goliath 3)great american scream machine SFOG 4)the wildcat models thats all I can think of right now!
ECZenith Posted June 7, 2006 Posted June 7, 2006 <---- see avatar It's funny to everyone's hands go down after the final banked turn as everyone braces for the magnetic brakes which are smooth but still manage to slam you against your restraints.
Blue0ctane Posted June 7, 2006 Posted June 7, 2006 Dania Beach Hurricane's was fairly sharp, so was Revolution.
Canadmos Posted June 8, 2006 Posted June 8, 2006 Zamperla Volare. There is nothing like flying head first into the hard shoulder 'pads'.
steel Posted June 8, 2006 Posted June 8, 2006 I'm surprised no one's said Raging Bull yet. I have to mention Raptor, too. Oh yeah, and Patriot. Definately a "HUH!" factor of 8.5 or more on each of those.
Swimace Posted June 8, 2006 Posted June 8, 2006 Superman: Ride of Steel at Six Flags America is the first coaster that comes to mind. I'd imagine that the model at Darien Lake would be the same, although I've never ridden it.
Darien Laker Posted June 8, 2006 Posted June 8, 2006 Viper at SFDL on the MCBR....it halts to a complete stop before rolling off the brake. Mind Eraser at SFDL on the first brake run.
mike541x Posted June 8, 2006 Posted June 8, 2006 Uhh lets see Mind Eraser at SFA. The first set of breaks are sharp. When your harness is loose and not down all the way it feels like your about to fly off your seat which is fun but mostly scary.
