So I was reading the thread on most messed up coaster moments and I starting thinking about sharp stops on coasters. You know the feeling...train enters the brake run and BAM train stops and you keep moving forward into the restraint.

I wanted to know if you are sadistic enough to actually like these sharp stops and/or which rides that you've experienced have the most powerful ending brake runs?

For me its first set of brakes at the end of California Screamin'. Close second is Manhattan Express, theres like a trillion sets of brakes between the last bunny hop and the unload station.

USF Mummy has a couple really sharp stops.

Sheikra has A pretty smooth stop, but it is really quick. at the end brake run te magnets slow you down fast, but your still moving prety good when your through them, then the nomal breaks slam on really hard. Since it's not a complete stop though you dont hit the harness very hard.

Vortex at PCW is pretty bad. You're coming through the last turn at a fairly decent speed, then you hit the brake run and *KA-FWOMP!* you come to a complete stop extremely quickly. In fact, the support structure at the brake run actually shakes when it happens. Its the only part I don't really like about this otherwise awesome ride.

Any Vekoma SLC stops pretty hard, and I agree with Homer, GASM stops REAL quick, but still manages to enter the turn before the station!

I concur. Second only to GASM @ SFOG....well the sharp stop, at least.

Wild Mouse at Dorney Park, you slam into the restraint at the final brake (as well at some other brakes throughout the ride)

I have 2. Wild Mouse at Playland Park In Rye, New York. They even have a sign that says sharp stop, brace yourself. I dont

listen, put my hands up and get a bloody nose..hehe..and S:ROS at SFNE. It goes from likke 50, to 0 in about 1.5 seconds

Any Wild Mouse and while Xcelerators stop is really smooth, its really sudden.

I saw a video once of a woddie that stopped really hard and I'm trying to remember where I saw it. It might have been on one of the videos for the annual contest... I can't remember what it was but the coaster looked like it hit a brick wall and gave everyone on board whiplash. It looked like it really hurt tho lol

For those of you saying that USF Mummy has a sudden stop, it was designed to be that fast (at the portion where the track stops) because it is supposed to simulate running into a wall... Although I could agree that the midcourse is a pretty sharp stop.

For me, some of them are: Raging Bull, Viper, and Whizzer.

It's funny to everyone's hands go down after the final banked turn as everyone braces for the magnetic brakes which are smooth but still manage to slam you against your restraints.

I'm surprised no one's said Raging Bull yet.

I have to mention Raptor, too.

Oh yeah, and Patriot.

Definately a "HUH!" factor of 8.5 or more on each of those.

Superman: Ride of Steel at Six Flags America is the first coaster that comes to mind. I'd imagine that the model at Darien Lake would be the same, although I've never ridden it.

Uhh lets see Mind Eraser at SFA. The first set of breaks are sharp. When your harness is loose and not down all the way it feels like your about to fly off your seat which is fun but mostly scary.
