Lagoon Discussion Thread

Did you guys spotted the two "not-rolling in the same direction" heartline rolls? It just sound awesome!

And with a ride time of 2min30 while the track lenght is "only" about 833m (2,735ft), many think the elevator will hold a surprise!

It's the reason why people are saying this ride will have four inversions instead of three. No idea though, as I guess they are keeping much of the coaster a surprise.

However, nothing is being done inside the elevator lift. It will only tilt from one side to the other like Divertical.

That element does look cool, only it's right out of a break run . If that element is actually part of the coaster then they beat RMC to the 270 Degree Stall! Clearly this would not be the never-been-done surprise they are talking about...right?

I'm looking forward to hearing and seeing more!

It might actually be! Nothing official has been said about it, but one inversion was talked about, and not shown in the released renderings. So Lagoon could have messed up.

To add on, with the already announced inversions, and the two heartline rolls, we could actually be seeing four or five inversions instead of three. Just have no idea until the coaster is put together.

Bombora was also an in-house job, and it seems to be doing them well, so I have faith in Lagoon for going all the way with Cannibal. Looks like it will be pretty awesome!

Not trying to sound negative, but Bombora is a kiddie coaster. Totally different than a hyper coaster with a beyond vertical drop, three inversions, and an elevator lift hill.

I do wish there was better concept art, though. Will the lift hill and drop be totally enclosed inside the tower, or will it be outside the tower?

BomBora isn't your standard Family Coaster. It uses pipe and columns much larger than any other Family Coaster out there. It also pulls some good amount of Gs. Dal Freeman also Designed Magnum XL-200 and Many other projects with Arrow and Designed Wicked and BomBora for Lagoon. The only reason why Stengel get's the credit for Wicked is because Zierer was Lagoon's Partner to make it Happen. Lagoon and the Freed Family is Highly Regarded in the Industry. Lagoon even built most of Rattlesnake Rapids in 1996/1997. Intamin basically provided the Ride System (Boats, Motors, Conveyors, PLC Safety System, Pumps), so they've pretty much been doing a lot themselves for many years. Lagoon found the Right Engineering Partners Locally and in ART Engineering GmbH.

Wow...this looks crazy! Should be interesting to watch the progress of this one and then finally see a real POV.

I definitely have to try and get to this park whenever we get around to our "out west" adventure. In reading past trip reports, it looks like the park has a lot of charm.

Ugly tower is ugly. No way around it.

I'm actually thinking about putting Lagoon on my schedule for 2016 even though there's literally nothing around it. I guess I could lump it into a yellowstone trip?

Salt Lake?

Salt Lake City?

Amazing Micro Brews?

It's not just a park in the middle of the desert.

Don't forget to buy your "SL,UT" T Shirts! I still think Hoppers in Midvale and Red Rock (Multiple Locations) are the Best Micro Breweries and Pubs. Squatters and Bohemian aren't bad either.

I'm pretty sure Shavethewhales is aware of that. SLC is probably the most isolated city in America, though. Like I've said many times it's a 6-hour drive from Vegas, the closest major city. Yeah, the metropolitan area is pretty large (Provo through Logan) but once you're out of that area there's really nothing for HOURS in any direction.

But we have quite a bit to offer for an isolated city. If timed right, you can go to Lagoon, Hogle Zoo, Loveland Living Planet Aquarium, any of our museums, on a hike, ski, waterski, EASILY get to be an extra in a movie, ice skate, mountain bike, cave dwelling the Tipanagos Cave, and shop. The only thing missing would be our water parks, unless its crazy weather again (that is pretty common) and we still have one of our ski resorts open in May. We have enough to justify a whole week trip to Utah without the regular sight seeing and figuring out our Mormon history. That itself you can find ANYWHERE in Utah. The best part is how slow news gets to Utah! You won't know about what's happening now until a week later!

Love the name. Love the "ugly" tower. Love that I finally have a great reason to visit Salt Lake City.

Unless the initial reviews of Cannibal are just flat out bad, Lagoon is now on my short list of parks to visit next year.

It will be a project worth watching--it looks pretty ambitious for a park like Lagoon.

If Salt Lake City is isolated, I would go as far to call almost every major city west of the Texas triangle isolated (outside of California). Arizona's only major urban epicenters are Phoenix and Tuscon, which are quite far from each other. ABQ and Santa Fe are near absolutely nothing; same with El Paso. Portland is not too fr from Seattle, but any other major city in any other direction from Portland is at least a day's drive away. Reno is about two hours from Sacramento, with nothing but sagebrush in every other direction. Boise is about five hours from Salt Lake City and six hours from Spokane.

Considering how many National and State Parks are between Las Vegas and Salt Lake, I agree!

Could always go up to Park City and check out the mountain coaster up there while you are here and do some cool Zip Lines.

If I was coming from the east, I would Drive to Denver first, do the 2 - 3 parks in Co, (Elitch, Glenwood, Lakeside) Drive from I-70 the drive between Grand Junction and Price UT is a lot like the game Red Dead Redemption (I'm also from Price, UT and I'm biased to Eastern Utah.) There are several amazing dinosaur museums in Price (that all have the Actual fossils on display if you are into that sort of thing) Then I would come up to Lagoon Ride those coasters before driving to Vegas to do Adventuredome before heading out wherever you want to go. It'd be a cool week with the rental car.

My two cents for this project is just a flat out question mark due to these facts:

- In house production

- Seems pretty ambitious for a park like Lagoon

- It looks unbelievably ugly

- Due to the fact this is an in house production we have no idea how it will run, how rough it will be and the train design.

I'm going to this follow this project with a grain of salt (no pun intended)

While being "in house", the peeps in charge of this project are not some random newbies. The designer is Dal Freeman, who has already designed a lot of coasters (including Bombora but also Wicked at Lagoon), and the track manufacturer is Intermountain Lift, which builds the tracks for Premier Rides, and has worked with S&S, Vekoma, Arrow, Chances Rides, etc.

What I don't understand is a themed, elevator lift building is ugly yet a bigger cement tower at Hansa has yet to be considered ugly.

That looks unbelievably ugly as well. Happy now?

Funny...

I believe most of the complaints come from the placement right in front of the Skyscraper (Ferris wheel) to the highway. As I do agree the placement was wrong, I believe if they just flipped the layout for the tower to be on the other side would be better. That way the Ferris wheel would be slightly more open to the highway or where else you would see it, and the tower would not feel like it's scrunched in with all the other tall rides and give it it's own part of the Skyline at Lagoon.

If that makes sense.

I've heard this complaint more than once also, and I don't really get it. Have you driven down I-15 since they started stacking the towers? Sure, it blocks a portion of Skyscraper from some angles, but there's plenty of the drive past it that you can see the whole thing. I also like how it looks with the ferris wheel behind it, but maybe that's just me. I'm also going to reserve judgement until the whole thing is built. Maybe it won't just be a big brown tower, but actually have some cool theming (I'd bet on the latter).

It would be cool if they could have put it somewhere else where it would have its own part of the skyline though, but I'm not really sure where they could have done that without tearing out a bunch of stuff.

It actually already does. If you look at the sides of the tower, they have "spikes" poking out. What Lagoon is doing with having theming aspects already fabricated into every support is a very nice touch. I prefer a brown tower with this kind of theming than a larger cement tower at Hansa.

The north side of Lagoon was the main priority for additions after Wicked was installed on the south side. Now, with all the new additions and Cannibal, the south side seems to lack even with most of the coasters on that side. Hopefully they add a new thrilling flat ride on that side of the park after this. It would help round out that side. Can't see them putting a new ride where it's needed, though. (Around Screamer and Musik Express.)
