Ace Of Spades Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 Well, it's a Herschend park, and we know how well Powder Keg worked for them...so...yeah. Food for thought.
tntornadox Posted May 7, 2011 Posted May 7, 2011 Except HFEC has no contracts with S&S outside with the just completed Barnstormer. Not to mention this new coaster will be the first of its type in the U.S. Pete said we should like what's coming... Edit: The more I look at Furius Baco, the more I believe it will be an Intamin wingrider on a larger scale with new elements and height? perhaps. Video of Baco:
WFChris Posted May 7, 2011 Posted May 7, 2011 I think its obvious: Launched terrain coaster with 'world highest' Alton Towers Thirteen style mid-course drop.
QueerRudie Posted May 7, 2011 Posted May 7, 2011 For whatever reason, I still smell some sort of Inty HyperLite... but with a 'twist' I think- perhaps something that would change it from being a true Hyper into a whole new area. (And then there's a part of me that keeps pleading for a second Dolly-Woodie. )
tntornadox Posted May 7, 2011 Posted May 7, 2011 Pete also pointed out that teaser signs will begin going up this week along the construction walls in Wilderness Pass, the first few will depict the sky and clouds. One member in Chat said: "The sky's the limit" to which he responded: "Not always"... Once more, here is an overhead shot of the area in question: The green line is where trees are coming down and groundwork has begun, the red arrow is Slidewinder's queue where chainlink fences have went up and the yellow arrow shows the location of new construction fences in Wilderness Pass. This is a very large area.
thrillrider Posted May 7, 2011 Posted May 7, 2011 2012 is shaping up to be a great year. Too bad we all won't be around to enjoy it.
Solid Gold Posted May 7, 2011 Posted May 7, 2011 Seems like a guarantee that Dollywood's getting a great ride! So I'm gonna hope Slidewinder isn't lost more than anything. My money is on an S&S launcher. There's the new ones in China and Herschend has gone to them before. Would be amazing!

tntornadox Posted May 7, 2011 Posted May 7, 2011 PIGEON FORGE — Gov. Bill Haslam declared today “Dollywood Applause Award Day” for a top industry honor the theme park recently earned. Dolly Parton returned to Dollywood on today to celebrate the award, which is an international achievement given to a theme park for general and overall excellence — everything from theming to shows to cleanliness. “It must mean we are doing something right after 25 years,” Parton joked of the award during an interview. “We have a wonderful group of people making (visiting Dollywood) a wonderful experience for people around the world. jason10 Posted May 7, 2011 Posted May 7, 2011 I think Dollywood really does deserve that award. To a lot of my friends who don't know the first thing about the park, they see it as joke being named after Dolly Parton. After visiting it last year, I can now see why it is such a highly regarded park. Everything impressed me. Great atmosphere, great food, great rides, great theming, great shows, great setting, outstanding beauty and great variety. It's simply stunning. I'm sure the new addition will fit this description and I look forward to seeing more about this coaster!
dragonskeep Posted May 25, 2011 Posted May 25, 2011 There is an outside chance I will get to go to Dollywood in late June. Very very much looking forward to it.
coasterfreaky Posted May 25, 2011 Posted May 25, 2011 Update from Sunday 5/22/11 about project 2012. Footers are being formed with rebar in prep for concrete pouring. These footers are next to the path to Mountain Slidewinder's station. In one picture a six foot ladder is sticking out by about a foot, so these are five feet deep footers, pretty deep. do we judge a coaster by the size of its footers?? In other Dollywood coaster news, Blazing Fury's splash down is no more. It has been replaced with a set of magnetic brakes that pretty much slow the train down just like the water did. I wonder if there wasn't corrosion from having moisture in the building?...like a damp basement or something. Anyway, I'd be lying if i didn't say i missed the splashdown, but i'm understanding. Some mist or some sprinklers or something would be great, if you're listening Dollywood! footer forms! the likely station area work walls

Some mist or some sprinklers or something would be great, if you're listening Dollywood! Sacrilege! With this and SDC's removal of the backward cars on TNT, HFEC is doing more and more things that upset me as a long time die hard fan. Why mess with what works on the classics? I really doubt there wasn't a way to resolve whatever issue led to this. Good to see big footers going in already though. This thing has to be a monster.
thrillerman1 Posted May 25, 2011 Posted May 25, 2011 ^^Thanks for the footer fotos. I'm trying not to get too overly excited about this new addition though it's getting difficult not to!
BeemerBoy Posted May 25, 2011 Posted May 25, 2011 I didn't realize that about the splashdown. I was there a couple weeks back and figured it was turned off for maintenance or whatever. If it's true what you say, then that really is quite a shame. It takes a LOT away from that fun, quirky ride!
coasterfreaky Posted May 25, 2011 Posted May 25, 2011 Its true unfortunately. During the speil it was mentioned that it didn't have water anymore, so we needn't worry about getting wet, or something like that. After shock, surprise and dissappointment set in, of course i was curious as to what they could have done to change it...my eyes were glued on the track as we went down the hill and sure enough there was a wide row of magnetic brakes that ran the entire length of what was the splash pool. Not certain that this is permanent-permanent, but it seems to me it is. I have faith that they'll do something else there like misters or sprinklers....that's a big part of the themeing that is suddenly gone. On a good note, now waterless Blazing Fury is Q-bot friendly. The Q-bot entrance is to the right of the regular entrance. They were putting Q-botters in the front car...so if you're waiting for the front car, be warned you may be bumped from a cycle.
SharkTums Posted May 25, 2011 Posted May 25, 2011 ^^I agree it's a bummer, although now I have a chance of KT riding it. She DESPISED getting wet on the SDC one but loved the rest of the ride. It's terrible, she's like Dan, she refuses to get wet in her 'normal' clothes.
coasterbear30 Posted May 25, 2011 Posted May 25, 2011 ^I am the same way, I hate it! It must be a condition or something. LOL So I am ok with the water being gone.
CorkscrewFoley Posted May 25, 2011 Posted May 25, 2011 There's definitely a case of Danitis going 'round. Shame about what they're doing to Blazing Fury, but where would the corrosion be coming from (water I know, but where)?
coasterfreaky Posted May 25, 2011 Posted May 25, 2011 I think the corrosion would be from having a pool inside the building. The constant moisture for over 30 years may be taking its toll on the steel and iron that comprises the ride supports, track, the ride's building and who knows what else - the sets are wood and other materials, mold, black mold and all moisture issues are extremely damaging if left alone. I'm just guessing here, i don't know what the 'official reason' for removing the splash down is/was. But anyone familiar with a wet or damp basement will tell you its not a good thing. Keep in mind the train goes wet around the entire course, so the steel track was constantly wet as well and there is very little ventilation inside the building that i can tell, def no sunshine to dry things off, so there ya go. Again, i'm not sure that's the reason or not or even if this is a permanent change! But if the water is no longer there then that would solve many problems...if corrosion were the main issue.
Shavethewhales Posted May 25, 2011 Posted May 25, 2011 ^That probably is their reasoning, but those excuses won't be good enough for me. If there were issues, then it's time for a proper re-hab of that area of the ride. Dumbing the ride down doesn't help anyone, it just sounds like a cheap cop-out, which further confuses me because I know they've spent a lot of money refurbishing the ride over recent years. The ride has been like this for 30 years. I know that it's obviously going to be easier to mange the ride from a mechanical perspective like this, but it's still a big disappointment and the park would have done much better to have properly worked around the issue than to have neutered a big part of the ride. This isn't the first time they've done things like this, both at DW and SDC, and I worry the parks are rapidly becoming generic as corporate cares less and less about the little things that makes the parks unique and special.
tntornadox Posted May 25, 2011 Posted May 25, 2011 I was told it was strictly because the water doesn't react too well with the new magnetic brakes they installed and they would be installing new effects later this season to offset the water's loss.

CorkscrewFoley Posted May 25, 2011 Posted May 25, 2011 Makes sense, thank you tntornadox. Besides, a dark ride themed around fire fighters, and there's no water? It wouldn't make sense, and I could see Dollywood allowing such shenanigans.
