coasterzak Posted March 16, 2005 Posted March 16, 2005 Big Dipper at Geauga Lake. That is an airtime machine in the front car. Also, Viper at SFGAm. No one ever says a whole lot about it and it's never at the top of any lists. I love that SF gem.
SharkTums Posted March 16, 2005 Posted March 16, 2005 ^I love Viper! It's in my woody top 10 also! That double down is great! Elissa "Aska is nearly a viper clone!" Alvey
WalrusMan Posted March 16, 2005 Posted March 16, 2005 I never hear anyone talk about Giant Dipper @ SCBB besides locals or wooden coaster freaks lol. Greatest ride around that I've rode.
Meteornotes Posted March 17, 2005 Posted March 17, 2005 ^ Agreed. DaveTh are you around? Aren't you the one that rode it before the brakes were installed when you worked there? --Robb I was indeed in Florida, but I have returned! And yes, Comet pre-brakes was KICK ASS! It was many years ago, but I remember being slammed into the buzz bars on the second half of the ride. This was a great coaster and it now runs nothing like it should. I doubt it will ever run like that again, sadly. Even during the ACE con in 2001, the park refused the groups request for a brakeless ERT session, saying the that structure just could not take the stress. I'm not sure about that, as I think it's likely a bit more structurally sound, but it seems that the Comet giving the sort of ride that it used to be known for is just a memory... dt
CoasterEricHP Posted March 17, 2005 Posted March 17, 2005 ^ Agreed. DaveTh are you around? Aren't you the one that rode it before the brakes were installed when you worked there? --Robb I dunno Robb.. in the back row on the Comet you get some ejector air on the second drop. Then the rest of the coaster is pretty much destroyed by the stupid trim that kills any airtime for the last half of the ride. IMO, Just that one moment of stand up air time makes it a better coaster than the airtimeless Lightning Racer! Eric
CycloneMan Posted March 17, 2005 Posted March 17, 2005 Le Monstre at La Ronde! I love it, Morgan trains and all!
vertgforces Posted March 18, 2005 Posted March 18, 2005 Yoshifan:Comet at Hershey Park. It has lots of air time and a good layout, but it gets ignored with Wildcat and Lightning Racers in the park What coaster have you been riding? Comet has NO airtime. It's severely braked and the entire (supposed) air-filled ending is just akward. The train crawls. Looking at the coaster, and knowing it's a Schmeck, it's clear that Comet is underperforming due to the sh*tty brakes. -kip- what are you talking about?! comet is filled with airtime (when I rode it). also, te coney island cyclone, lightning racer, hurricane (MYRTLE BEACH), comet (lake george), mean streak, Gwazi, and dorney park's thunderhawk are all underrated!
WalrusMan Posted March 18, 2005 Posted March 18, 2005 Morgan trains themselves aren't the problem. It's the wheel assemblies that cause the trains to have bad tracking. From what I've heard, Giant Dipper @ Belmont Park and from what I've experienced, Giant Dipper @ Santa Cruz are really smooth. The difference between those trains and your standard Morgan trains? The Dipper's have flanged wheels instead of side wheels.
AngryMickey Posted March 29, 2005 Posted March 29, 2005 I still enjoy Roar @ SFMW. For its size I think it delivers pretty well. I like it better than any of the wood that SFMM's packin'. Joe "but that's just me" B. "You took him to Mega Mountain, are you crazy?" Yeah, 'cause they're ridin' the vapor in reverse."
coaster1 Posted March 29, 2005 Posted March 29, 2005 Big Dipper at Geauga Lake Dania Beach Hurricane Jack Rabbit at Kennywood (the double dip is amazing) Viper at SFGAm
thomas2 Posted June 18, 2006 Posted June 18, 2006 Time to remove the dust from this thread... I think Weerwolf @ WB is underrated, mostly because few people rode it. It has good airtime, comfy trains and a compact layout. I'm sure those who rode it will agree with me
Reon Posted June 18, 2006 Posted June 18, 2006 Cyclops at Mt Olympus. Even though its structure is overshadowed by Hades and Zues, Cyclops is my favorite coaster there. INSANE airtime, and you dont know where you're going. Dodgeing in and out of Zues's structure adds to that effect... Also, Its my undisputed favorite woody. Jared"Zues does nothing for me"Becker
Luxo Posted June 18, 2006 Posted June 18, 2006 Ghostrider! When I rode it, I found it be reasonably smooth and providing massive airtime!
apollo210 Posted June 18, 2006 Posted June 18, 2006 Thunderbolt at SFNE! It has good airtime especially in the Dobble Dip and it is very smooth! This ride might be the best ride in the park (Excluding S:ROS).
coasterdude5 Posted June 18, 2006 Posted June 18, 2006 I think Viper at SfGam is an underrated woodie. People complain for its roughness but I've never been that bothered by it. The awesome airtime always makes up for it.
WildMouse Posted June 18, 2006 Posted June 18, 2006 After hearing many reports on how average and boring they were, I was pleasantly suprised (very much so infact) by the Vekoma woodies found at Walibi Belgium and Walibi World (Werewolf and Loup Garou). Both are yet more proof that Vekoma are best at making rides of the non-looping variety!
CP_RULES Posted June 18, 2006 Posted June 18, 2006 I definately think Timber Wolf is VERY underated. This thing has some great airtime and fun laterals, it may be a little rough, but its still great.
BeemerBoy Posted June 18, 2006 Posted June 18, 2006 Dania Beach Hurricane (Go Ride It NOW!!) Thunder Run, SFKK Blue Streak, CP
coasterguy618 Posted June 18, 2006 Posted June 18, 2006 The Great White at Morey's Piers has some great air on the bunny hills and is my choice.
okinawaboy11 Posted June 18, 2006 Posted June 18, 2006 I think Viper at SfGam is an underrated woodie. People complain for its roughness but I've never been that bothered by it. The awesome airtime always makes up for it. I agree. Also Timberhawk at Wildwaves. I've heard a lot of crap about this coaster (although, some good). It's not just a family coaster, it really delivers.
Erik Johnson Posted June 18, 2006 Posted June 18, 2006 I hardly never hear many people talk about The Wild One at Six Flags America. The front row was quite amazing.
okinawaboy11 Posted June 18, 2006 Posted June 18, 2006 ^ Very true, Wild One is the one coaster in that park that is indeed a Classic coaster.
Delirium Posted June 18, 2006 Posted June 18, 2006 I think Big Dipper @ GL is heavily underrated. If u ever get around to riding this coaster, RIDE IN THE BACK!! Can u say major ejector airtime?? (well atleast for me) Almost every drop had me literally standing up.
Luxo Posted June 18, 2006 Posted June 18, 2006 I hardly never hear many people talk about The Wild One at Six Flags America. The front row was quite amazing. I thought of putting down Wild One, it really surprised me with that airtime! I expected it to be like the Arkansas Twister.
