Walt Disney World Disney's Animal Kingdom Discussion Thread

p. 74: Tropical Americas land announced!

Recommended Posts

I am THINKING (or maybe hoping) they would try to get this ride open for the holidays. All of the banners at the theme parks advertise the new attractions from around the world, and with Lucky now residing in Hong Kong, DAK needs something to pull people in.

Plus, the Tarzan show will be closing in January and the new coaster is in the same area.

Also, remember that Mission:SPACE started soft openings in July, and the grand opening was not until October (if memory serves). So I could see this coaster opening late December for a Spring Break grand opening.

The whole structure looks great. Let's just hope that the ride is as cool as the theming!

Rumor I heard was an "official opening" on April 22 - Earth Day, and birthday of AK itself...

So - lots and LOTs of time at winter and early spring for shakedown trips.

Have fun, all you soft-opening attendees, LOL!

Hey All, I was pokin' around on WDWMAGIC.com and saw alot of other pics and info on this ride and also this ride animation thingy (yes thingy). I don't know if any of you have seen it yet but it is pretty cool, it shows you the train moving, the track layout and you can see the reverse part and much more than you can see from the pics, here's the link http://www.wdwmagic.com/animations.htm# just move the mountain, lock the restraints and dispatch....your off  . There is also one for RnR, Test Track and ToT on the same page, but we all know how those go. I for one am gonna save my next WDW trip untill this bad boy is open.

Check it out!!!

Robb and all, if memory serves me (and it does sometimes, lol) you'll have to do a POV from the last row of the train, with the (ahem)'donkeyengine' right behind you?

The way certain track is angled inside the mountain, I think there will be some really great POV from that position. (Yeti-watching, y'know....)

Rather than just the front seats POV.

Yeah in what will be the most "themed" roller coaster mine car type train in the world, each EE train will have a donkey engine in the back. Unlike Big Thunder where you have a train pulling you through the ride, EE has a donkey engine, in the back, which pushes you through the ride. This will enable you to get some great POVs in the front seat of the coaster, with no train to obstruct your view. Right before the ride opens maybe we can get someone to paint TPR's logo on each of the engines....jk!

^ Don't worry about seeing this animation of EE ahead of it's opening. By the way, it's a pretty good rep of the whole thing.

I've seen earlier pix of the framework and tracking inside the mountain. And from what I saw, the track layout when the train re-enters the mtn.after the helix, doesn't exactly go a straight line to the outside spiral there. And the spiral shown is actually a bit backwards. The train comes straight out and then dives into the spiral.

Then again - it could all be the other way around, hee hee hee.

There's still a lot not shown in the animation, track-wise. So the actual inside layout is a safe mystery... for now.

AWESOME...

that is the word to use... Will be going to WDW in october... If only they would have soft opening then (but I guess this is not going to happen as that would be very early)

Enough reason to return as fast as I can after this trip

I'm just hoping beyond all hope that I catch it for a soft-opening in early December... I know it's doubtful, but I've been lucky like that before...

Got to tour Asia on the very first day it opened in previews to Guests. (It just had the walking trail, Kali was still under construction) Was one of thie first 200 or so to walk through the trail.

Then in June of '03 I caught Mission: Space on its' very first day of Guest sneak previews. It opened up at 4PM, and I had just one hour before I had to leave for the airport to make a 6:30 flight home!
