Six Flags St. Louis (SFStL) Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

Can't wait for typical SF announcements. A couple parks will get something exciting, inevitable Magic Mountain or Great Adventure. Then, we'll be down the list with some buzz killer of an attraction with another unfortunate park or two.

Then, this thread will fill with people who will declare that our park still has plenty to offer, despite the fact that our newest thrilling steel coaster, Mr. Freeze, will grow another year older. The growing number of people like me will just sigh and wait for a repeat scenario next year.

Anyone want to take bets on if we will get another new steel coaster before Mr. Freeze is old enough to drink?

Although I should say optimism is key, I can completely see what you are talking about, if I am not wrong the last ORIGINAL coaster was Boss in 2000.. not hating on SfSTL it is a great park with lots too offer and the coaster collection is fine, but don't we deserve something original?

Technically American Thunder was original.

You know, I know that you only like roller coasters, but a lot of people, including me, don't think that JLBFM was a "buzz killer of an attraction." In fact, there are those who find it "exciting" and not in the least bit "unfortunate". But, I guess some people are just never pleased with anything.

I'm with you on this! As much as I like coasters (and that's an awful lot!), if MiA got a JL:BFM attraction next year, I would be there opening day, salivating at our good fortune! I definitely don't put SFStL in the same conversation coaster-drought-wise as parks like Great Escape and Michigan's Adventure...

True story: I am tentatively putting on hold my next trip to SFGAm from this year until next year, just because the rumor is they're getting a JL:BFM ride. That means delaying my first RMC as well. Maybe I'm severely overrating these rides, but they look pretty cool to me!

Our park does have plenty to offer. Prozach is just hard to please.

There is plenty to offer at sfstl but I have to agree with Prozach a little. Not counting Boomerang, the last new coaster was in 2008 wasn't it? Hopefully it won't be too long before sfstl gets its next new coaster.

^ No it wasn't. It was a clone of Thunderbird at Powerland in Finland which was built two years before American Thunder which at the time was Evel Knievel.

I'm of the opinion that if only two exist, and are halfway around the world from each other, that's as good as unique. The number of people who have visited SFSTL and who have heard of Powerland is very small indeed.

I wouldn't say hard to please, but I wouldn't say easy to please, either. There's just no point in wasting my time at our park this year. If I had kids I'm sure things would be different.

Look at it from my point of view. I'm a young working professional married adult with a solid budget and I have the world available to travel to ride coasters. That being the case, why would anyone in my shoes want to go to our park with so much to offer even within 3-8 hours of cheap 30mpg driving and free hotel nights on a Hyatt account? I suppose perspective has something to do with it. There are circumstances that may make our park more appealing for each individual. Unfortunately, none of those circumstances appeal to me personally. This hobby for me is to ride thrilling (mostly steel) coasters. BTR is great, but freeze doesn't do it for me. Flats and the occasional water rides are great, but not enough to bring me out without something more to offer. Please correct me if I'm wrong on my own personal stance and what I find appealing. I apologize if hoping for something that might appeal offends anyone, but last time I checked these are public forums and me voicing my personal discouragement is no different than someone expressing enthusiasm.

Much of what I say is just observation and much of it is true. I can't help the fact that the park hasn't changed and that I still have to proclaim freeze as our most modern steel coaster. I remain on this thread, because I'm hopeful that one day something will draw me back to the park. I also want to say that I also appreciate all of the updates provided by the people in the know. I know you're working hard, but I also know that although you can't express negative thoughts about your employment on a public forum, that you're also hoping for some of the same things I'm hoping for.

Cheers

Good point. We have gotten to the point where we do the 5 hr drive from fairview heights up to gurnee on Saturday mornings and drive straight back when park closes. We hit st.louis every now and then on a Sunday. Nothing against the park. The thrill factor isnt really there anymore for us. We still enjoy ourselves there.

^^ I completely understand and agree with your point. I haven't visited SFSTL since American Thunder (at the time it was Evil Knievel) opened. Why haven't I been back? Because there hasn't been a good enough reason to. Let's just be honest about the park's coaster collection, it's bad. Except for maybe Screamin' Eagle, all of the non-clones suck. The clones, while some are good, are obviously clones and don't have originality to give the park character/a clear identity. To me, BTR, Freeze, and American Thunder are not good enough reasons to come back. Justice Leauge did capture my attention, I'm not rushing to get back to the park because of a shooting dark ride (which apparently has almost been closed more than its been open).

Obviously the first answer that people expect is a coaster, but with the business model St. Louis seems to be following, who knows when or what it'll be. Infrastructure improvements are always positive for the park, but there's still a lot of work to. There are so many better parks that are just an hour or two farther drive for me, so I hope SFSTL will make me want to come back one day.

Keep in mind the same name could be used for a different type of flat, in typical Six Flags Style. However, I think we're boned. (again)

You JUST got a huge dark ride that was a first-ever style from Sally. Are you kidding me?

*Day after announcement*

Random User: "Well, we are for sure getting a coaster next year right! I bet on an Iron Boss."

-Next Year-

SFSTL: "We are exited to announce our new HH expansion!"

Random User: "NOW we are FOR SURE getting a coaster next year, RIGHT?!"

Etc...

^ Sums up this forumn.

I really, REALLY hope they don't market the Larson Loop as a coaster and call it the "10th Coaster in the Park!!!"!

EDIT: I'm not saying I wouldn't want a Larson Loop, I just don't want them to market it as a coaster because, well, it isn't one.

Prozach.....I am going to work on a much larger response to your long post. However, for the time being, I will say that you have become a cancer to this forum. I was actually going to offer you two complementary tickets out of my own personal supply so that you would at least be able to experience the park and know what you're complaining about. Yea, we get it, being a cop means you deal with crappy people who hate you...but guess what...I don't care anymore because you seem to get off by being one of the most frequent posters here who hasn't even been to the park in years. You proclaim the same tired rhetoric and only change phrasing. I used to enjoy this forum and posting pictures, behind the scenes information, and other fun conversation regarding the park. Now it feels like a chore that I just want to put off because reading this forum is the best way to kill my mood. Any guarded-fondness and goodwill I had for you is gone. After I have some time to respond to a few of the posts point by point, I am taking a break from this forum. (I wonder if that's why TNT hasn't been posting much recently either.)
