robbalvey Posted October 11, 2008 Posted October 11, 2008 Anyone know if they got rid of the griffin statues? If they got rid of the dragons, I pray that they didn't get rid of these. They were another favorite of mine in The lost continent. Oh, I would be willing to put money on it these are gone! --Robb
Not For Sale Posted October 11, 2008 Posted October 11, 2008 And here's how the entrance looked as of Tuesday.
Wes Posted October 11, 2008 Posted October 11, 2008 Someone should dumpster dive at IOA and remake Lost Continent made entirely of trash.
TheRapidsNerd Posted October 11, 2008 Posted October 11, 2008 Aww, this is a bummer. I really like Lost Continent for it's originality and for it's great themeing. It really did define the park in my my mind and it was cool because it didn't have a rights brand slapped all over it. I'm sure HP will be good, but IOA has just lost some of it's oomph. Obviously I'll still visit the park, but I'll never be able to experience the cool, original version of it. And if the Griffon statues are gone, Mystic Fountain is likely going too. I need a donut to cheer me up. EDIT: Just noticed that this is post 1666. Is that creepy or what?
LcHg5265 Posted October 11, 2008 Posted October 11, 2008 Does anyone know the reason why the stairs at Dueling Dragons were blocked off? Did it ever not have the ropes?
ECZenith Posted October 11, 2008 Posted October 11, 2008 If anyone happens to come across one of the statues while they're dumpster diving, I have this great spot in my front lawn...
doom1001 Posted October 11, 2008 Posted October 11, 2008 First Enchanted Oak,one of the cooler counter service restaurants at any park and now the DD statues which made the ride's theme ultra cool and has anybody thought with the Dragons trashed, the name Dueling Dragons is probably also a thing of the past!!Wonder what the new name will be???
alpengeist04 Posted October 11, 2008 Posted October 11, 2008 ^No matter what the new name is, I'm going to always refer to it as Dueling Dragons. How do you like that, IOA?
Wes Posted October 11, 2008 Posted October 11, 2008 ^ I'm sure they'll be sobbing into the piles of money they get from all the Harry Potter fans paying for vacation packages to see the new land.
TheHulk Posted October 12, 2008 Posted October 12, 2008 If anyone happens to come across one of the statues while they're dumpster diving, I have this great spot in my front lawn... LOL! I'd be happy to take the other one.
alpengeist04 Posted October 12, 2008 Posted October 12, 2008 ^ I'm sure they'll be sobbing into the piles of money they get from all the Harry Potter fans paying for vacation packages to see the new land. Yea, I know. I'm happy they'll be getting more vacation packages out of this, since IOA is my favorite park and I only want what's best for it. But thanks for the reply anyway.
JT3000 Posted October 12, 2008 Posted October 12, 2008 Anyone know if they got rid of the griffin statues? If they got rid of the dragons, I pray that they didn't get rid of these. They were another favorite of mine in The lost continent. Don't know about the one by Jurassic Park, but the one by Seuss Landing hasn't gone anywhere, and I don't see why it would.
Kalepi_Konei Posted October 12, 2008 Posted October 12, 2008 Okay I saw this and couldn't resist making a little comic for the dragons in there honor. I saw the blue dragons face and immediately went WHA?! and just thinking about it made me laugh. Now I know it isn't great but maybe it'll cheer some of you up, that or it'll just completely suck-ass. But just look at the blue dragons face when you read what he says. In beloved memory of the dragons may they rest in peace in a dumpster somewhere.
hemmy Posted October 12, 2008 Posted October 12, 2008 Very sad the dragons are gone Neither of the coasters was on my list of favorites, but the theme and atmosphere was amazing.
Coaster Sim. Fan Posted October 12, 2008 Posted October 12, 2008 As far as I am concerned there taking out the most unique part of the park for a fad. Which is an extremely bad idea. I don't think IOA will ever be the same for me. Truly there is part of me that hopes HP is a complete failure and makes them regret there decision. And really isn't dragons part of that whole mystical wizardly stuff ... Why could they just not create it so that they could leave DD alone.
PCW_Nut Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 I have a feeling the dragons will come back...albeit not the same ones, but ones more related to Harry Potter... I think the Chinese Fireball would be a shoe in... I think something like this would work and not lose the theme of the ride.
WillMontu Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 I should have posted these last week, but I never got around to it. I took a few pictures at the park last week The bridge is used as an entrance and exit to the Dragons. They are now part of the Jurassic Park section The new Dragons entrance. The lockers have been moved over to area in the left of the picture Oh, yeah. Poor Unicorn I know I've seen it somewhere... The "new" Dragons entrance. Now where have I seen that sign before? One of the HP buildings Poor Unicorn
cycamps Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 It sucks to see the dragons go, but it won't really change how I feel about the ride, as it's the only invert I've ever enjoyed. I am a little disappointed that IOA is ruining a great themed area though.
justint87 Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 The dragons really told the story of Dueling Dragons. A true icon of IOA and the Lost Continent. I too am sad to see them go but I'm a optimistic person. Change can be good and even though I was never a big fan of Harry Potter, I am holding out that Universal will do a great job and they will open the new island to great amazement.
alpengeist04 Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 I have a feeling the dragons will come back...albeit not the same ones, but ones more related to Harry Potter... Very cool looking statues. So we're looking at the possible colors of red, green, black, and/or dark blue. I think the Chinese Fireball would be a shoe in... If they use the Chinese Fireball they wouldn't even need to paint one of the tracks and/or train(s). I think something like this would work and not lose the theme of the ride. I agree.
Not For Sale Posted October 30, 2008 Posted October 30, 2008 Construction update! These photos were taken today (10/29). If you would like full resolution and unedited versions of these photos, shoot me a PM. And to conclude here's a picture of the styrofoam stones. I foresee this building being completely gone soon. The former site of the dragons. This is probably where that cement thing was. They're tearing up the sewers, I think. Central is still here, so look forward to more destruction. Construction workers. This was taken from Dueling Dragons' queue. Here's a walkway near the ceiling and a sprinkler system. Air conditioning! I don't know where this is. The scaffolding was down a week or two ago. It's up again all around. These next few pictures are of the side facing Jurassic Park River Adventure.
justint87 Posted October 30, 2008 Posted October 30, 2008 Nice pictures, great to see work still progressing on the building. I wonder how long it would be before we start seeing vertical construction on the locations where all the buildings and dragons been taken down. On a side note, I wonder how HRRR is doing? Haven't seen an update in a while... if only it was moving at the same pace as Harry Potter construction is.
Not For Sale Posted October 30, 2008 Posted October 30, 2008 ^You can look forward to a Rocket update by Adam shortly.
MixedDrink Posted October 30, 2008 Posted October 30, 2008 Are the Dragons being torn down or just rethemed?!
aldredd Posted October 30, 2008 Posted October 30, 2008 ^The rollercoaster itself is staying - just being re-themed by the looks of things. No-one is really sure about the dragon statues though. Most are hoping they will be re-incorporated again somehow.
