The Knott's Berry Farm (KBF) Discussion Thread

P. 651: Montezooma's Revenge project terminated?

Recommended Posts

Could it possibly be the Mack launched spinning coaster prototype they showed off at IAAPA? Kinda makes sense considering the footprint that is being cleared right now. There haven't been any visible signs that the coaster will travel outside the room provided by boomerang and riptides old spot, so it technically could fit in there. I'm really hoping this isn't the case though with A skyrocket 2 going in just 80 miles south at Seaworld SD.....

Knott's already has a Mack spinning coaster, so I highly doubt that they get another one. As far as Mack coasters go, I'd love to see a Blue Fire clone as Boomerang's replacement. I'm not sure if that would fit in the footprint, but it would be a great addition to the park and the first of its kind in North America.

Good call, forgot about Sierra Sidewinder.... Whew!

I'm not ruling out the possiblity of a dive coaster just yet, because CGA seems to be getting an impulse coaster based on their 20 year plan and location of current survey markers, which would align with the "renewed relationships" project. Additionally, the "completely new coaster" statement doesn't necessarily imply that it will be a new type of coaster, only that the coaster will be new from the ground up, if you look at it generally. The "Ledge" name that was just trademarked is convincing to the case of a dive coaster as well.

I'm also not opposed to anything other idea, but I just wanted to reaffirm that I still see a large dive coaster as most logical and opportunistic until something more convincing and less general comes up.

As for those saying it will be a Baron-sized dive coaster: I don't think you understand just quite the size of land that is available. Shiekra's lift only covers ~100 ft* of ground, and the turn at the top has no larger than a 50 ft* radius. The boomerang plot is around 400 ft* long and close to 100 ft* wide in some spots, with the narrowest being 60 ft*.

*Numbers were based off recollection because I was too lazy to look them up again. However, the important thing is that even with the consideration of the margin of error, I can confidently say I'm that I remember Sheikra's lift fitting in several orientations in the plot comfortably and with room to spare in some orientations.

I posted this from a couple weeks ago and I'm reposting it now in response.

Yellow is roughly the space we are probably looking at for Boomerang's replacement. It is roughly 425' x 170'.

Coral is Xcelerator's footprint, for comparison size, roughly 450' x 180'.

Black is space that could be theoretically used but would require having fly over and around existing attractions. Roughly 550' x 300' in the longest directions of the "L".

Intimidator 305 is 5,100 feet long and 305 feet tall with a lift hill ground length of 300 horizontal feet and sits on rectangle of land roughly 935' x 520' square.

Fury 325 is 5,498 feet long and 325 feet tall with a lift hill ground length of 520 horizontal feet. It sits on an "L" shaped piece land 1,380' x 260' x 1,290' x 250'.

Leviathan is 6,602 feet long and 310 feet tall with a lift hill ground length of 500 horizontal feet. It sits on an "L" shaped peice of land 1,450' x 360' x 1,135' x 250'.

Based on those numbers I doubt Knott's is getting a giga or even a "hyper". But Valravn, for comparison, sits on a plot of land roughly 270' x 200'. It is 3,415 feet long and 223 feet tall with a lift hill ground length of just over 100 horizontal feet. Now I don't believe Knott's would get a clone but it gives you an idea of the space that a big dive coaster could fit in. Maybe this could be the first giga dive coaster. Maybe even be longer than GhostRider's 4,533 feet.

Way ahead of you there - I did those same calculations a while before you posted that (I tend to read a lot and withhold myself from posting, because everytime I do, I always succeed in making unnecessarily long posts). But yeah, I do saw those as well and checked the measurements myself once before, so I don't doubt you...

Part of what really convinced me early on that a dive coaster is irrefutably an all-around best candidate was recognizing that Boomerang's spot's area was enough to fit even the largest dive coasters well.

Cedar Fair trademarked the name the Ledge. Do you guys think that could work for the relocated Boomerang? Or are we thinking its for a ground up new coaster? Would work good on a dive style coaster. S&S and Mack I believe both have there own version of a dive coaster now? I also think the name work work good on a vertical lift and beyond vertical drop style coaster or drop tower. So who knows

I'm taking a guess here but due to the small space...I think Knott's is getting an Intamin. But this Intamin...

I think that's pretty unlikely, as we already have Green Lantern about an hour away, and most GP don't care for it much as it is. Plus, more low capacity? Very doubtful.

I'm still in the Dive coaster camp myself. Not necessarily what I'd want personally (Gerstlaur or Intamin Maverick style would be amazing), but I can't deny it makes great business and space sense for them. It'd be a lot of bang for their buck, a one of a kind in the western US, would be an easy fit for the space (even a larger model), and the GP would go wild for it. I'd gather most local GP would have never even heard of this type of coaster, so their minds would be blown. It'd create a huge buzz for them. So why wouldn't they?

Interesting. People insist on limiting Knotts potential coaster to that one space.

Until we see any markings anywhere else or signs of construction, it's a safe assumption at this point.

Remember, parks can build anywhere. That includes the top of existing structures where you would not see markers.

Was there something going on that would make the park that busy today? I didn't wait for any coasters but the app said 120 min for both Silver Bullet and Ghost Rider and 90 min for Xcelerator. I got to the security area before giving up and deciding to come back during the week.
