^Are there any publicly traded ride suppliers? It's such a unique industry that I really can't imagine it being beneficial for any company to be listed unless they have aspirations of entering a new business (like a defense contract or something major).

No, not that I know of. Not much thought went into my comment

Its odd, and I dont normally have these experiences, but the other night I had a dream they ripped out pony express and replaced it with a Gravity Group shuttle loop. I suppose thats one of those only in my dreams sort of things Haha

I'd like to start the rumor now and maybe in 5 or 6 years it will happen.

^I was just there yesterday and the whole exterior queue area has been stripped down to just the support structure. The ramp is completely gone. I couldn't see well enough to tell what has gone on inside the attraction. Unfortunately I don't have a picture since my phone was nearly dead and I didn't want to risk it dying before the end of the day.

Doesn't the park have enough family coasters? Jaguar, Coast Rider, Sierra Sidewinder, Pony Express. Borderline Timberline Twister

Posted

^ true but Im not sure what else you could do with that small sliver of space (besides nothing, of course or just leaving PE as is..) But if they built a mild airtime machine similar to timber terror in intensity, it would be something that would be good for families while satisfying the more veteran coaster enthusiests. A win-win in my opinion

Posted

I'm fairly confident that Pony Express is staying for a while. Yes, the ride isn't all that great, but it's very popular with families and the theme/placement of the ride is great.

Boomerang will definitely go first, I believe.

Posted

Why would Knott's get rid of Pony Express? There's nothing wrong with the coaster, it's compact, and it's actually quite fun. The fact that I could "ride" a horse speeding down the track seems pretty cool. Plus, Pony is still quite popular.

Oh, and get rid of that piece of junk called Boomerang. Please.

Posted

Pony Express may be just okay and short even by the standards of family coasters, but out of the five at Knott's it's the second best. Like others have said, it is not likely to be going anywhere in the near future and I could see at least half of Knott's coasters as leaving before it does.

As mentioned a few posts earlier, I visited Knott's Berry Farm yesterday to check out the Knott's Merry Farm event. The park overall looks nice with all the decorations, and both Ghost Town and Camp Snoopy look great when the Christmas lights come on. Of the event-exclusive offerings, the highlight was Christmas Craft Village, where Ghost Town is taken over by a bunch of stands selling unique items created by local craftspeople. In addition, the Wilderness Dance Hall is taken over by a Santa photo op and several stands selling various holiday treats (which were pretty good). Also, while I didn't see any, my family went and saw a couple of the holiday shows (Snoopy on Ice and A Christmas Carol) and said both were better than they expected them to be. Overall, I'd say it was a pretty nice event.

Photo and Vine dump from a month ago! Life got busy and I never had the chance to get these posted with a proper report. Better late than never, though! There's a shot of Sierra Sidewinder in here that I'm especially proud of. You'll know it when you see it. First up, though, are the Vines!

I wish I was at a dead Knott's. More rides on Xcelerator for me!

These are some pretty nice photos of an empty Knott's. I'm not familiar with amusement park crowds during certain times of the year, so can someone fill me up on why this park was so quiet?

Posted

^ We were there in the middle of the week in the first week of November. Between Halloween and mid-December pretty much all parks are ghost towns outside of Thanksgiving weekend.

Posted

^^If you can visit Knott's on a school day the park is usually dead. I've never seen more than a three train wait on a typical off-season weekday, and often it is possible to remain on rides for multiple circuits. I wouldn't be surprised if there are days where the number of employees is close to the number of guests (or could theoretically exceed it).

Posted

It's possible that there can be more staff than guests at any given time? Wow.

I never actually thought about the operating schedules, so this is some interesting information. Of course it's in the middle of autumn, but the amount of guests at the park still surprise me. I guess the only guests are the locals, basically.

Posted

Locals and those on vacation with an extra day to spare. Slow days while school is in session usually pull in about 1200-1500 guests.

Posted

Ive been in the park before when there couldnt have been more than 300 people in the park. Sat on xcelerator for 3 hours and didnt have to get off or move once.

Posted (edited)

Went to knotts today. The park was rather slow, surprisingly, but operations were efficient and running very well. Ghost Rider is running particularly well today especially on the gold train. Ive had some of the best rides on it in a long time. I hope that holds up! Mine ride is great! The new sound system, animatronics, and special effects really bring the ride to a new level and should hold up well for years to come.

Knotts continues to surprise me and I think that will be the case once the new ride opens. There's still a lot of room for improvement but I think they're headed in the right direction.
