The Knott's Berry Farm (KBF) Discussion Thread

P. 651: Montezooma's Revenge project terminated?

Recommended Posts

Montezooma's Revenge was the first ever inverted coaster I ever road on in my life, so that has plenty of great memories for me.

I was always a vertically challenged (short). I remember as a child, I would literally cry and be upset because I was too short to go on the most awesome looking coasters. It was an awesome day when I was able to go on the inverted coasters, first starting with Montezooma's Revenge. Next was the Corkscrew at KBF. It's a fun memory that I've been able to ride Corkscrew at KBF many years ago, and again at the local theme park, Silverwood.

Inverting. Not inverted. Silver Bullet is inverted.

Thankfully it was at the bottom of the lift. But this one poor girl was absolutely terrified and wouldn't stop crying, and her dad decided his energy would be better spent yelling at us to get them off (which we can't do until maintenance arrives) than reassuring her that she'd be okay.

I've been in your shoes before with the guests yelling at the operators but the I just let them yell because the bottom line is they can't do anything until maintenance and supervision arrives.

We had a group of parents yelling at operators, management, and maintenance then threaten to call 911. For one, we're far enough away that by the time the fire department would get there to get them off, we'll have evaced everyone. And SOP for them is to contact the park to confirm whether we need any assistance or not. (Psst... We don't)

It's hard to fault someone who knows absolutely nothing about ride systems and park SOP's (guests) for being upset they are stuck sitting there with operator seemingly doing nothing.

We get it. Most guests do too. But it's totally understandable why some guests go into panic mode.

^Agreed. I've had instances where even explaining the process doesn't help. Most of the time informing the quest of the park's EVAC procedures will diffuse a situation yes, but not always. It's their prerogative to be mad but it definitely doesn't help the situation. As operators we also have to keep in mind that most of us (Yes I've worked with operators at KBF and DLR that are terrified of coasters...) aren't afraid of walking down SB's lift or down Screamin's 120ft lift. Add in a guest who was terrified to ride to begin with but got talked into riding by friends and/or family and then they have to be EVAC'd. Definitely a recipe for panicking.

It was just kind of irritating when 3 different ROs were taking turns trying to reassure the girl that she was totally safe sitting in her seat while maintenance was on their way and her dad decided to make a scene instead of try to calm her down with us.

so a guest calls the Fire Department and they show up... how would they get the Guests out of their restraints? They would wait for Maintenance to show up and unlock them- same thing that the ride ops are waiting for. I was in Maintenance- walking down stairs on some lifts was not fun for me- I hate heights- so I get it..

We had a Skylift accident in 1979 where the roller battery was damaged and the cable could not be moved. The St. Louis Fire and Rescue Teams evacuated Guests from the cable cars by ladder- some at 100 feet. A storm was moving in and we had 15 to 20 MPH winds...THAT- was not fun.

Hey all! Been a long time since I've been around here, but I've got a quick question that you guys can probably answer better than anyone.

My girlfriend and I are planning to head down to Knott's sometime in the next month or so. We're really trying to catch the park on one of its truly "dead" days, where everything is more-or-less station waits. I know I managed to be at the park on a day like that way back in November a few years ago, so I'm hoping we can catch the park like that again.

So my question is: is there still a day of the week during late February/March when that might be possible? Or will spring break have already ruined our chances by then?

Thanks!

Weekdays during February (and sometimes Sundays) are all pretty slow. The first week or two of March will be the same, then it'll pick up briefly for Spring Break / Berry Festival.

Weekdays are always dead. I would try visiting before late March since that's when spring break usually starts for schools. Also, Ghostrider is finally back up from rehab. I'm not sure what was done to the ride but it does seem a lot quieter than it was before it went down.

  • 1 month later...

It's been awhile since anyone has updated this thread, but it looks like we can expect Voyage to open May 15th per their website.

Any recent updates on the exterior construction? I wonder if they're going to upgrade the facade of the building or keep it generic looking
