jzoole Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 Does anyone know anything about this knockoff carnival version of Disney's Tower of Terror? I stumbled upon it and thought it was hilarious. Now I'm really curious about what the ride is like inside. Anyone seen it/been on it? http://www.interlink-lg.com/UsedRides/FamilyAttractions/page11.html
UrbanLegend Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 Movie 3D, Glasses / attraction very spectacular It's even got 3d! Classy. How much is it, maybe TPR could scrounge up enough cash to bring it to the States.
simon8899 Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 But needs 3D-glasses....like the 3D-projection in the Disney towers far more. If only for the reason that due to a quite harmless eye-condition I cant use conventional 3D with glasses systems - that includes all known 3D cinema systems so far....
thrillgeek Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 That's really cool that they would have something like that be portable. I wonder if the Disney parks know about it?!?!
cfc Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 So, they put a pair of large Frog Hoppers in a building with a 3D movie projector?
kidcoaster 2 Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 I was able to find a POV and I think I am even more confused about this ride than I was before. As the story line goes you enter the hotel than are suddely in a tomb in egypt before suddenly showing back up in the hotel?
VinTheAttendant Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 (edited) I lost it at the part with the raptor Edited March 29, 2012 by VinTheAttendant
cfc Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 (edited) ^Maybe you pass out while watching a documentary about ancient Egypt in your hotel room, have a nightmare, walk in your sleep, then step into an elevator shaft? Or maybe they just took a random 3D flick and put it on a drop ride? (I love the random dinosaur.) Edited March 29, 2012 by cfc
larrygator Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 I'm sure the plot line is explained during the beginning of the movie. I'm betting the hotel owner stole an artifact from an Egyptian tomb that now haunts the hotel just like the storyline was storyline from DisneySEA. However, I'd love to hear a translation to understand the raptor (Maybe ChrisCon wrote the script). Otherwise, the whole ride is misplaced and should have gone to Canobie Lake next to Mine of Lost Souls.
oriolat Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 I have had the privilege to ride this contraption several times in different Spanish fairs. And it's defintely a TOT knock-off. It's so bad that even having two elevator shafts they can only run ONE at the time because otherwise they would have a blackout. The experience is as follows: - the carnie gives you a pair of dirty and cheap-looking 3D glasses - you board the lift (mind you; no seatbelts or anything, just a single lapbar that barely touches you) - you go up to the first floor where you watch a 4D film (yeah, a weird film featuring dinosaurs in pyramids. Everything makes SO much sense ). Of course, airblasts and water sprays are mandatory to round the experience. - you continue going up until the basement where you can see a good overview of whatever you have in front of you - with no warning, you freefall about 21 meters (69 feet) and, before the elevator reaches the base, the lapbar pops open and you're off. If I remembery correctly, there's an on-ride photo for those who DARE ride that Near-death experience Oriol "Saw the TOT knock-off ride op drinking a HUGE glass of cheap wine while running the contraption" Monroig
MayTheGForceBeWithYou Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 Carnival ride theming rarely makes sense, but REALLY? We go from a haunted hotel to ancient Egypt that's home to a raptor, and back to Tower of Terror storyboard cutouts...
Meteornotes Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 That was amazing. And looks like more fun than DCA's tower. dt
jzoole Posted March 29, 2012 Author Posted March 29, 2012 Fantastic! I'm so glad we now have a video and a glowing review from someone who's braved this deathtrap. This is definitely going on my rides bucket list.
BeemerBoy Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 People are actually paid to design this stuff. All it does is confirm that TPR absolutely NEEDS to create their own ride one day.

oriolat Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 Mystery Hotel in all its glory! Those pictures were uploaded to Theme Park Review in this topic from Sant Narcís Fair (uploaded by Trevor): http://www.themeparkreview.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=60947&hilit=sant
SoCalCoasters Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 How much is this thing going for? Maybe we should all chip in Desmond-style and bring this awesome attraction to the states.
sspaz1000 Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 I think I'm speechless after watching the video. I mean it's bad, but it's awesome because oh hey random raptor in there for fun. I agree with larry, Canobie needs to get this so it can go next to Mine of Lost Souls.
bubala Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 Oooooh! I want to ride that so bad! I love me some cheesy carnival rides!
