My top 3...

coolest-roller-coasters-el-toro.thumb.jpg.4c92831db054d5a4c16089788910eefa.jpg

#1) El Toro- pound for pound the best coaster I've ever ridden.

#2) Voyage- Front row was arguably the greatest ride on a coaster I've ever had, but a couple rows back was rough enough to take my attention from the amazing elements, which knocked it comfortably below El Toro.

#3) S:RoS at SFNE- Luckily, I had the opportunity to ride this back in 2004 before the conversion. It was the most complete coaster I've ever ridden...mixture of height, speed, floater airtime, extended and abrupt ejector, positive G's in the first helix, and 2 underground tunnels with mist. Easily my favorite steel coaster.

^^^ What coaster is the wooden one above El Toro?

I *THINK* that it's Gwazi, but I could be wrong (Gwazi is the only ride I know of with yellow millennium flyers).

Posted
^ It looks like it, but what is it doing on a list with Maverick, El Toro, and Mindbender?

Not Gwazi, those aren't Millennium Flyers. That's Coaster at Playland in BC, Canada.

^ Thanks, that makes much more sense. IMO it is a pretty underrated coaster, and is way more fun than it looks.

How can you say it is underrated if you didn't even know about it 2 minutes ago? Have you even ridden any of these major coasters that you've been talking about? Namely NTaG?

Posted

^ I knew about it, but just didn't recgonize it from that photo. Also, I have ridden NTG, and thought that despite it having some good airtime, it was kind of repetitive and should have had more variety in its layout.

Well ok then.

1. This insane thing. Like, what in the world was Intamin thinking putting something this big so close to the ground? That twisty piece of steel in the top right corner of the first pic seems like it shouldn't even be possible.

2. This stack of wood is just doing things that wooden coasters shouldn't even be able to do. The airtime is ridiculous, I mean, the top wheels don't even touch the track on the airtime hills. Oh yeah, and that element in the first picture is by far the most insane, thigh bruising airtime I've ever experienced.

3. Since SF can't maintain their rides (jk), the launch acceleration of this coaster is not even constant. It feel like you accelerate initially, stop for a split second, then jerk forward again, and you're just going so fast it's ridiculous and it doesn't even feel real. You're plastered to your seat half the time and it's just so much fun it never gets old.

4. [tie] This ride is fun. Really fun. The layout is really great and isolated; as they say "nobody goes into Nitro's woods at night". If you get a good train, a fast ride, a good seat, and the MCBR happens to not activate you get borderline ejector on the airtime hills.

4. [tie] I honestly can't decide which hyper is better. Behemoth is ridiculously photogenic, from the colors, to the massive size, to the shape of the elements, the layout itself, even the trains look good. The drop is fantastic, even better than Nitro's. Consecutive airtime hills are the best thing to happen to hyper coasters.

5. This thing is underrated. There, I said it. The helixes for some reason have both positives and lats, and though the first airtime hill wasn't that great, every single airtime hill after that delivered strong ejector. I can only imagine how good the SFNE version is.

^^^ Awesome list, except for Space Mountain. Fuck that ride. ^ I'm glad to see Superman getting some love. Since SFA is my home park, I get to ride it a lot and have really come to like it.

^^ Count me on the boat for Superman love. Ride of Steel at Darien Lake is #3 for me, and blows Millennium Force out of the water. CP fanboys just don't want to admit it. The camelbacks and bunny hills are killer, and the ride holds such great constant speed.

My top 2 are Skyrush and Maverick, I'm just too lazy to post more pics.

After the 2015 season I have a new favorite wood coaster, so I'll update my favorites here!

I finally found a wood coaster even better than El Toro! After riding Outlaw Run, I'm almost positive I'll find a new favorite next year, Lightning Rod!
