kyleparks77
How smooth is Voyage this season, compared to, say... 7 years ago? Also which seat offers the smoothest ride? Take an average woodie and that's your track smoothness. Factor in a really twisty second half and then you either get "brutal" or "intense", depending on your outlook. Edit: now that I think about it, the first half is much better than an average woodie. It is running extremely smooth (at least it was in early May when I visited). There is no "bounce bounce bounce" jarring as you go across the track. The second half could have a track smoothness like this as well but the twisting and turning takes over the senses. Jodon
Currently driving to Holiday World for Holiwood Nights. Really excited for this event and to meet other enthusiasts. Here's hoping the lightning stays away during the ERT's.
SFOGdude25
How smooth is Voyage this season, compared to, say... 7 years ago? Also which seat offers the smoothest ride? Front seat by far offers the smoothest ride, and it's probably my favorite place to ride. You sail over those hills like nobody's business up front. The back car can be a little much in the second half, but it's still pretty fun. It's running really good this year. My first couple of rides on my visit a few weeks ago were the first time in a while that I was able to enjoy the ride all the way to the end, which is almost a rarity for me, as the second half can beat me up pretty good on the average day haha. Woodie Warrior
Just got back to resort after a great night 1 of Holiwood Nights. Here's a few notes: -Thunderbird is INCREDIBLE. Easily a top 10, if not top 5, ride for me. I love the zero G roll and S curve combo. Right has some nice pops of airtime, left has more head choppers. The loop is one of the most intense I've been on, which is something I wasn't expecting. This ride surpassed all my expectations. At night, the launch effects are a lot more effective, and I love how all the lights in the station flicker with the thunder sound effect. When it comes to Thunderbird, everything is AWESOME! (Although I still like Voyage better.....) -Speaking of Voyage, it's running a bit better than last year. The MCBR is still stopping the train completely, which really only effects the first two "downs" of the triple down. But still, half the train was booing loudly. Like sorry, can you please STFU?!?! The ride still kicks ass, and two pops of airtime being taken away from a ride that probably has 20 is not the end of the world. -Crowds are not that bad, which is a nice surprise. Legend and Raven could be easily marathoned because most people are in line for Voyage or Thunderbird, which still only had station waits (1-2 train waits). -The stereotype of the "entitled enthusiast" is true for a lots of people I saw (for example, the booing of Voyage's MCBR). However, there are lots of nice, talkative people as well. And most of the obnoxious people weren't Club TPR peeps, which is nice. -It's cool seeing so many Club TPR people, BTW. My family rode with one guy on Mammoth from Pennsylvania, I believe, and we had a nice convo about lots of things, like the City Museum. Lots of kind people here this weekend, even with a few of those obnoxious ones sprinkled in the bunch. -To wrap things up: Holiwood Nights is an amazing time, and every enthusiast should come out and experience it. There's nothing better than walk-ons on 4 incredible coasters when it's pitch black outside. Thanks so much to everybody at Holiday World. I never got a chance to meet Will, but I can tell he would be proud of what the park has become. A family-owned park that is rapidly expanding, yet is still holding true to its values. I mean, all the employees have such an obvious love for the park, which is really what makes HW what it is. Kay, I'm going to bed.

The ride still kicks A$$, and two pops of airtime being taken away from a ride that probably has 20 is not the end of the world. That's because roller coaster enthusiasts are ENTITLED to have The Voyage run the way THEY want it to, and if that doesn't happen then they BOO the park then, of course! This is why I don't go to events filled with obnoxious coaster nerds anymore. And most of the obnoxious people weren't Club TPR peeps, which is nice. That's because we do a very good job of weeding them out of our group! If any Club TPR people were doing something as obnoxious and booing the ride after the park puts on a kick-ass event, they would find themselves no longer a Club TPR member the next morning. ACE can have 'em! Edited May 30, 2015 by robbalvey

Another example: An older lady went up to the fudge buffet and asked where the plates for the fudge were. The employee pulled out a plate and the lady goes, "Oh, I see you were just hiding them from me!" in an obnoxious voice. Like seriously, how full of yourself can you be? You can spot the odd balls 100 feet away and just ignore them. To be honest the 3 seconds your on mid course provides a most welcomed break and doesn't affect voyage being #1 woodie on my list. Yeah, I'm not saying that the majority of the people there were the "entitled enthusiast" type, and we met lots of kind, genuine people, but the few who do think they're entitled to everything are far more noticeable and louder. The event itself is absolutely fantastic.

ZeroGravity55
This is just like when we raise our prices 30 cents at work to help cover food costs. You get all the complaints from your regulars, because they're only ones who actually notice. They only make up about 0.5% of our customer count, so we usually ignore their complaints and if they feel the need to not visit us anymore, we don't sweat it. HW shouldn't care what these whiners have to say, as they only make up a very very small percentage of HW's actual attendance. They've treated them like royalty for 20 plus years and I bet they treated them just as well tonight. It's HW's ride, they can do what they want with it. If it SAVEs them money and helps IMPROVE guest experience among the majority of their visitors, it's worth it. Edit: I love that one of the complaints on the Holiwood nights FB page was that people who attended the event, paid to get in, so they are entitled to complain. No, no you're not. First off, the park gave you one heck of a deal and is probably not gaining any profit off this event whatsoever. Lastly, Paula posted on this site and the HWN FB page that The Voyage would be braked this year. She even stated that trains that are full will be braked more than the others because they will get to the MCBR faster than empty ones. So you were warned and could have backed out. BTW, I loved that someone deleted all the negative posts on the HWN FB page. I can just hear those whiners now... "this isn't the same HW".. No, it's the same, they just got tired of your arrogance after treating you so well for so long.
DBru
What an awesome start to HoliWood Nights 2015! Tonight was as close to perfection as a coaster event could get. Walk-on rides, wonderful weather, incomparable hospitality, and fantastic food (can we talk about those "Hors d’oeuvres" at Splashin' Safari ERT? ). To top it off, Thunderbird completely took me by surprise. To be honest, I wasn't expecting much from it at all after being seriously underwhelmed by all the other US wing coasters, but this one is certainly different and superior to GateKeeper, Wild Eagle, and X-Flight in every way. The launch is legitimately forceful and fun, the flow of elements is flawless, the train flies through the course with great pacing, and to bring it all together, the coaster looks really, really great. I'm so happy that Holiday World has such a winning attraction on their hands. I can't wait for tomorrow! Hopefully the weather holds out for us. This is such a great event! Thank you Holiday World for hosting us and showing us such an awesome time.
ytterbiumanalyst
Yes! The hors d'oeuvres were basically a meal, and very good. And the "snack" of pizza, veggies, and fudge later. I'm intrigued to find out what a full meal looks like to them! I'll save the full report until I get to experience the rest of the park, but it's safe to say this is my #2 favourite park, right behind Silver Dollar City, and Voyage and Thunderbird are both top 10 coasters for me. Woodie Warrior
Yeah, HW does not got light on the food at these events. If I remember correctly from last year, the meal tonight is a buffet with burgers, hot dogs, baked beans, and a bunch of other stuff. The amount of food they serve you at Holiwood Nights is ridiculously awesome. Well worth the $55 admission price.

kyleparks77
Out of curiosity, why are they stopping Voyage at the MCBR? A few pages back, Paula gave an explanation. Essentially, the second half is just a little too intense for the GP and the few seconds of slowing down at the MCBR also gives everyone a bit of a breather. However, once the train goes through the triple down, it's back up to speed again and there is no drop off in the fun of the second half.
Philrad71
This event sounds like a lot of fun (other than the whiners). While I would be a bit hesitant about riding Voyage again, I think that I would more than likely give it a shot in the front seat to see how it compares to the Beast at night. I would probably make it the last ride of the evening in case it kicks my arse, although I certainly wouldn't be booing it like the other people. Can anyone comment on their front seat rides on Voyage? Fairly smooth? As rough as the other seats? I have ridden a lot of coasters that people thought were very rough in the front seat and actually found them to be quite tolerable (Beast, Mean Streak, Blue Streak @ CLP to name a few). HolidayWorldFTW
The amount and quality of food they served us for media day was also insane. They for sure know how to feed people! Lol glad everyone is enjoying the park! It makes me smile really big to hear people enjoy the park and its operators as much I as do! And that Thunderbird... Wow... Glad my feelings on the ride are now being echoed from some coaster enthusiasts rather than just me being a park enthusiast.
ZeroGravity55
So I'm watching the webcam right now, and I know everyone said the lights flickered in the station when the train launches, but I didn't realize that all the lights in the plaza did as well. That was very cool to see on the webcam!
Woodie Warrior
Anybody happen to be on the train that got stuck on Voyage for like an hour? That seemed to clear out the park. Thunderbird has no real wait at all.
jonskinny12
Holiwood Nights was such a fantastic event. This was my first visit to Holiday World and will not be my last. I spent Friday and Saturday in the park and I'm heading to King's Island tomorrow so I called it a night early tonight. I just can't say enough good things about the park and this event. I basically paid regular admission prices and felt like I was treated like a VIP for 2 days. Such a welcome change from some other parks I've visited, where I feel more like a number that they're trying to squeeze every penny out of than an actual guest at a park. The all you can eat food, photo walk back tour, and ERT was all awesome. The Voyage blew me away. I rode it 27 times over 2 days and it delivered every time in every seat. And Raven in the back at night is something everybody needs to experience.
