JJLehto
One final question, what would a Saturday in Early June look like? Nothing too bad, but fairly busy. Lines will be longer in the water park for most of the day, but the lines stay pretty short for the coasters, so it depends on if you are a water park type of person or not. If you aren't, at least ride Mammoth and Wildebeest! You my friend may have just settled my trip! That sounds good, and realistically it works for my schedule. Yessss. I enjoy water rides but I almost always skip em. I'll deff hit those 2 up but I'm a coaster guy for sure. Thanks all for the help.

Make sure you get to Splashin Safari AS SOON AS IT OPENS. And you'll be good to ride the water coasters and probably a couple other things without waiting in long lines. AS SOON AS you notice the water park fill up then make your way out of the water park and hit up the roller coasters and other dry rides as then the lines in the dry park will be much shorter. JJLehto
Great, it really is appreciated everyone! This works out better anyway, won't have to deal with August crowds, HWN was not possible, and now when I'm out at CP I can swing out to HW instead of coming straight home which is nice since I'm already gunna be out there and would hate to waste the time. HolidayWorldFTW
Hey guys this article was on a local news station's website. I thought this was SUPER COOL and just another amazing thing the people at Holiday World has done for their guests! HWFan
^ I noticed those in the stations and thought it was really neat. I was trying to figure out how exactly they work though From what it seems, the Guest would transfer from their wheelchair over to the large padded seat and then down to the middle level that is over the other coaster seat. Finally, it's just a nice small final transfer down into the seat of the coaster. Â The only park that I've seen anything like this at is Disney. All of their rides have either special vehicles or special ways to get into the vehicle. While I honestly will probably not use this at Holiday World this summer, having the option there, especially for Guests who have even harder times moving around, is great. Now one thing that I would love would be a little hinged/door thing that allowed a larger area for your feet to get in/out of the car. That is the thing that trips (pun intended) me up every time, as someone with size 15 shoes. Â Gobbler Getaway's special ride vehicles are also nice, as they are equipped with a special door that opens to make it easier to get in and out of. However, while it could be either bad design by Sally or bad employee training by the park, you're lucky if the team member can even get it open with the key. Most of the time, once it gets to the point where every single ride vehicle is stopped from them taking so long to open, I just get help and squeeze in the normal way. kyleparks77
Random thing I noticed when I visited last weekend: there seemed to be a lot of rides down/maintenance issues. I don't know if it was just because it was during opening weekends and they're working out the kinks, or they don't have the full lot of ride operators yet. Â - Voyage was initially running two trains and then was "temporarily closed" for a few hours and resumed operation with one train - Mayflower's left rear seat had caution tape across it - Hallow Swings closed for a couple of hours - Crow's Nest appeared to be operating for the first hour of the day but closed around 11 and never reopened - Gobbler Getaway was "temporarily closed" late in the day and I'm not sure if/when it reopened - Legend closed for about an hour (speaking of, it's nice to see it back to two train operation again) Â It's not a huge number of rides but they're some of the most popular so it seemed to have a big impact. At one point during the day, the only three rides operating in Thanksgiving were Thunderbird, Mayflower (less a seat), and Turkey Whirl

Thunderbird and The Voyage are still down right now. I'd assume it's just regular maintenance issues, but who knows. Â And I really wish I would've checked the events calendar to know that a lot of school groups are here for a music festival because it is pretty crowded. Â Edit: I've just gotten word that Thunderbird will not reopen and The Voyage is looking very unlikely. As I'm editing this Raven is closed too. The Legend is the only coaster (besides Howler) open... Edited May 9, 2015 by Koasterking48

Koasterking48
Taking a quick stop by the park today was a mistake. There is a middle/high school festival so TONS of screaming teenagers everywhere. On top of that, the two stars of the park remained closed all day, which meant a lot of unhappy guests, although the park is issuing free return tickets. Maintenance was still working on it as I left, but there is no guarantee they will be running tomorrow. Hope the issues are nothing serious! Â Also, the park is handling the flak on social media very professionally, which is definitely good to see.
kyleparks77
Wow that's a huge disappointment for a busy Saturday. I wonder what the issue was with Thunderbird? With a new ride, maintenance issues are to be expected, but an all day closure seems like what the park was trying to avoid by going with a reliable manufacturer like B&M. I'm not trying to put the blame on anyone; it's just really unfortunate.
ZeroGravity55
Now that finals are over, I've been able to catch back up on this thread. For all the issues that happened yesterday, it's really misfortunate. Seems to me, a lot of the issues are a result of it just being early season issues and quirks that the park is having to work through as they pop up. They're still on weekends only, so the rides all sit for five days without being used and then are fired up to run a few hours before the park opens up. I'll liken this to like getting in your car in starting it up. If you turn your car on after it sits for five days and the check engine light is on, if you don't notice anything wrong, you're probably going to drive it anyway and get it checked out later. When this happens at a place like Holiday World, they have to get it checked out immediately, whether it's a big or small problem, because of the chance it may compromise the safety of their guests. Give the park's maintenance team some time with Thunderbird. They're still probably learning a bunch of stuff with the PLC's on this ride and lot of this stuff can probably only be learned by something not working right and them having to fix it. The silver lining in this is that whenever this issue pops up again, they'll probably have a solution and be able to fix it faster. As for The Voyage, it was probably track repairs that got delayed while they tried to get Thunderbird open. While not ideal, they can live with The Voyage being down for awhile, but as for Thunderbird, they need it open for every minute the park is operating. It's their main draw, and it was probably all hands on deck with their maintenance team to try and resolve the issue.

Your quite welcome. As far as Price Less, they didn't have it at first but they carried Prairie Farms so we asked them and their manager told us he would talk to their PF vendor to get it. A week later they carried it... So that's something you might try at whatever chains you have there. If you can find it, it's WELL worth the hunting effort. We have been through SEVERAL cartons already!
HolidayWorldFTW
Oh and as far as Thunderbird being down all day I think we need to put it into perspective a bit. Not only is this HW's first major steel coaster, but it's also a wing rider, the only one B&M has made with a launch EVER. So not only some firsts for the park but for B&M in general. Given how much testing and how many rides this thing has already been through, I'm honestly surprised this was the first time they have had a hiccup like this. I've always considered the weekend only operation at the beginning of the season for ANY park to kind of be a trial and error time period. Learning new additions, still training staff, ect. As far as Thunderbird itself though, well, it already has a way better track record than Pilgrims Plunge could ever had hoped for. I have no doubts it will end up being a VERY reliable ride for them. Wednesday to Sunday operation begins this week and next week with daily operation starting Memorial Day, so that will help. The issue just had bad timing, as it was a busy day yesterday. The staff remained hopeful about Thunderbird and Voyage reopening soon until around 4 and just kept them closed. The maintenance issue is most likely nothing of concern, it just was unfortunately timed. Both rides ran test cycles at certain points in the day so they weren't completely stagnant. Â And I'm hearing they are down again today. Maybe they'll reopen later this afternoon, but who knows.

foss123
Noticed this support slacking on the job while in line for The Legend yesterday. The only reason I saw it was because The Legend was at one point the only coaster operating and I had been stuck in line for quite some time, but that's a different story and it's over now. Anyway, hope this isn't a big deal.
kyleparks77
^ a support in that location is most likely what is referred to as a "zero-force member" in structural engineering. It's mainly there to make it a continuous structure while all of the force is being transferred through the columnar supports and the internal lateral bracing. Sure, there is some force transferred through that piece of wood but it's negligible in terms of the amount transferred by other members and the redundant design of the structure. In short, no it's not a big deal structurally, but I'm sure it'll get replaced

I once read that these particular lateral bracing beams are more for alignment than load bearing.
