Holiday World (HW) Discussion Thread

P. 512: Holiday World acquires Santa's Cottages resort

Recommended Posts

Anyone know why the building's roof doesn't have all of the frames up? It has been bothering me for quite some time now.

Yea this has been bothering me too. You would think they would complete the whole roof all at once. It also "bothers" me that the part that isn't complete is the same part that has that really large opening in it.

Ok I have a question/thought for those of you that are into engineering and construction. In the picture here I'm posting from the construction cam. Is it just me or does the footer I circled in red on the LEFT look like it has a water pipe coming out of it? And also the footer circled in red on the RIGHT just looks weird with a like thin slab of concrete on top of it with a gap between it and the footer... Plus a weird copperish colored fin of some sort on it. What could that possible be?

On the left, it just looks like a white bucket sitting on the footing to me. On the right its hard to tell what that is but it doesn't appear to be anything permanent as its simply sitting on top of the anchor bolts. Heck, it could just be something a construction worker sat there to move out of the way. It could also be a generic column template to check anchor bolt spacing and such. Its hard to tell from just one angle and relatively low quality.

I don't know if these people gonna make it. I mean, two days left and they're far astray? I'm kinda worried.

Yup I'm with you lol. I'm seriously grateful I did not have to participate in such a journey. These people have been through a heck of a lot and here it is 2 days before arrival and they have no clue where they are or if they will survive the next 24 hrs. This ride is going to be.... Intense. Lol

I'm guessing it's the mold that makes the almond shape "cut". Those aren't actual cuts, like with a saw, because that would weaken the footer. They place that piece in as the concrete is poured and remove it once the concrete has cured enough.

A few questions, how does Thunderbird relate to Thanksgiving, and how does the park theme it such a way that explains that question to their guests? I know the mentions in the journal to birds and the storms, but how do they theme in such way that it makes sense to their guests that it is in the Thanksgiving section? Essentially, I just asked the same question twice, but I wanted to clarify what I was asking.

Thunderbirds are prominent in Native American legends. The birds were said to be the cause of thunder, lightning, and strong, forceful winds. They were feared and awed as powerful beasts worthy of the upmost respect. It would have been one of the first things the pilgrims heard from the Native Americans when they told them of the storms they sailed through. Many of the Native American traditions were adopted by the pilgrims and vice versa. A Voyage to the New World wouldn't be complete unless it crossed the path of this flying creature.

How does HW inform their guests about this? I'm not sure how they will do it but one way would be to describe the legend of the thunderbird on themed signage in the queue. Like I said in my prediction, I think the new HW will take theming up a notch.

Just read the WIKIpedia article on the Thunderbird.

Here's an excerpt:

It is described as a large bird, capable of creating storms and thundering while it flies. Clouds are pulled together by its wingbeats, the sound of thunder made by its wings clapping, sheet lightning the light flashing from its eyes when it blinks, and individual lightning bolts made by the glowing snakes that it carries around with it. In masks, it is depicted as multi-colored, with two curling horns, and, often, teeth within its beak.

If that doesn't sound like a bad a** roller coaster, I don't know what does.

I hope I answered your question. I honestly don't know how they will make the theming work. I just know they'll make it work.

My guess: launched B&M Wingrider hyper with inversions and an aquatrax section.

HAhaha...ok, you guys are reaching now. What would be considered an "aquatrax" section? I thought an aquatrax was a style of coaster...

Lol guys my guess of The Thunderbird wasn't exactly an end all be all statement. I was just thinking about the clues and the type of coaster that I see it being in my mind and The Thunderbird popped into my head. It doesn't go alone with their normal 3 syllable coaster naming convention they normally seem to like to use as someone already mentioned. It's probably not the name they are going to use but if it were my coaster I would consider it for sure. We will know soon enough! I can hardly contain my excitement!

Paula - I'm glad I didn't have to read all the gory yucky details like you had to, lol. I'm sure parsing out all the really gross parts was quite a chore for you! You still FOR SURE got the point across that it was anything but an enjoyable trip. Lol great job!

I've been out of town for the last few days so I really don't have any input, but I'm hoping it's not a flyer. They make me nauseous.

That being said, I'd be all a gen 2 launched wing rider. After riding Wild Eagle yesterday, I'm convinced B&M can pull off a forcefull launched wing rider. That thing craps all over X-Flight.

Mine is!

Lol ok. I mean I did do some searching and I also read that same Wikipedia article, so MAYBE I had a good hunch. But I always seem to loose guessing games, ESPECIALLY when I really think I know for sure. So I don't want to say I think thats the name for sure for that reason lol. If that makes sense? Also why I haven't put down my end all be all guess as to the coaster type... Even though in my head I have an idea. I will I guess say that I am with you on The Thunderbird...or even just Thinderbird..... If not that then I'll guess The Storm.

I still can't figure out that building. With the large opening in the side and now the seemingly purposely missing roof trusses, I'm even more boggled.

I did a lot of looking last night after my posting about my loose speculation of a pneumatic launch and I found that the hydraulic launch systems have massive pumps that go in the winch house at the end of the launch. And, I found that all of those hydraulic pump holding winch houses have.... a garage door in one wall. I'm still mainly thinking LSM launch if a launch is going to happen but a growing part of me now thinks hydraulic or a new pneumatic launch system as the equipment involved in that is huge compared to computers and power supplies. Seems as those LSM equipment could also easily fill that building but that equipment can all be assembled once inside and comes into the building as smaller elements.

After seeing the newest journal entry: Thanks, Paula!!
