ratdogg68
^ I thought I remembered it being sold to a traveling fair company and I believe it operated for a while. Not sure if it still does or not. It was still traveling in 2011 with North American Midway. It was close to home in Aug., it was at the Kentucky State Fair, now known as The Avalanche. Brought back memories of when it was the Firecracker. Avalanche, former Firecracker from Holiday World.
HWFan
I've always been curious about this. With HW being in Santa Claus, Indiana. Why don't they put on some type of Christmas event? I was told by Dan that apparently they tried one for a couple of years, but it didn't make any money. Sometimes events don't make money their first year, so they try them again, but nothing they did saved the event. cfc
^I think the park is just too remote to sustain an off-season event.
Koasterking48
^I think the park is just too remote to sustain an off-season event. Ditto, there is not enough people in Santa Claus, Dale, or even Jasper to bring in a substantial amount of people. The water park and many rides would be closed, so you already lose over half of HW's visitors. Besides, Lake Rudolf still holds a land of lights drive through, I think. ZeroGravity55
^ I figured it was something along the lines of that. I was just curious. I see a lot of other parks putting on these type of events and couldn't help but think that HW could have one of the best if they put one on. The setting and history of the park is just too perfect, they just need to be located closer to Indianapolis for it to happen. I'd always though it would be cool if they renamed themselves Santa Claus Land again just for a Christmas event if they had one. Anyways, they really don't need to put on a Christmas event. HW celebrates Christmas the whole operating season anyways!
HWFan
Head on over to the HoliBlog where a couple of great updates were posted showing covered bridge construction on the Holidog Express as well as the plans to renovate Mrs. Klaus' Kitchen: http://www.holidayworld.com/holiblog?page=2 http://www.holidayworld.com/holiblog?page=3 With the track being so close to one side on the bridge as well as what looks to be a full wall built on one side with the other side open, it looks like we can expect some kind of display inside the covered bridge. It could be wishful thinking, but might we see the original Freedom Train on display inside the new "bridge?" I heard that at least originally they wanted to display it inside the park somewhere. Midgetman82
Unless they tried to squeeze in a compact Euro-fighter with the cars themed as sleighs. Would at least give the park a steel looping coaster. What about one of those Gerstlauer Bobsled coasters? Compact, no inversions, seats 4 (unless they're linked cars), great size and thrilling enough for whole family, and there hasn't been one built in the western hemisphere yet. I think so too but it was fun to stand on the bridge and watch Voyage zoom under you so hopefully the sides will still be open so you can still get up close & personal with the Voyage fly-by. ZeroGravity55
If they fully enclosed the bridge, it would become a sauna. It would eliminate the point of covering the bridge, which is to give people some shade from the sun and heat.
kyleparks77
You know its winter time when we're having in-depth discussions and analysis of a covered walkway
Moose
I have discussions on bridges all the time. Then again, I design bridges for a living.
Woodie Warrior
I doubt it will be fully enclosed. Covered bridges normally just have a covering but the sides are open.

DBru
The Thanksgiving section is way way way overdue for a nice entryway/sign. I'm excited to see how it turns out.
rctneil
The Thanksgiving area seemed like they had an empty plot of land to build on and then realised they have to give access to it for guests so they built that long walkway. I remember it feeling very RCT'ish. But i'm all for more shade!
Moose
^I am guessing that is exactly what the situation was.
ZeroGravity55
Has anybody checked out the parks new website yet? It took me awhile to get used to it, but I really like it. http://www.holidayworld.com/ Also, I came across this Holiblog. http://www.holidayworld.com/holiblog/2014/01/16/best-staff-meeting-ever/ I wish my management meeting at work would go something like this. Going to see Saving Mr. Banks sounds a heck of a lot better than talking about food costs all the time!
Koasterking48
It was mentioned a while ago about where the second covered bridge will be, but the 2014 park map confirms that it will be on the walkway to Thanksgiving.
SFOGdude25
^Part of me thinks that new covered bridge is there to semi hide the fact that that walkway goes right over a maintenance road. I remember thinking a couple of times how seeing that maintenance road might take away from the whole "being-in-a-theme-park" feel.
WildStangAlex
^Part of me thinks that new covered bridge is there to semi hide the fact that that walkway goes right over a maintenance road. This would be very similar to SF Great America. There is a covered bridge going into most sections of the park, some of which are over service roads themselves. It's a great idea shade wise and aesthetic wise. I just wish parks would add new "living" tunnels similar to SF Over Georgia or SF St. Louis. Those things are so cool looking and tend to feel even cooler than a 'normal' shade structure.
ZeroGravity55
The ambulance also has to go down that road to get to the first-aid building. Part of me thinks that building this covered bridge is a way to give privacy to guests who may have to leave park via ambulance. That bridge lets you look right down at the first-aid building and would allow you to see everything that's going on if an ambulance was taking a guest away. I'm wiling to bet something like that happened last season (they just re-located the first-aid building to it's current location in 2013.) and a lot of people on the bridge were stopping and staring at what was going on. We're still picking around on it, but we're nearly there. And the Saving Mr. Banks "staff meeting" was a wonderful surprise. Great movie!
