The Legend was basically my second favorite coaster of all time when I rode it this past season. I liked it better than the Voyage.

I feel the same way about The Legend. (Maybe voyage was too overhyped, but it's still an excellent coaster) I rode Legend for the first time this year and wow was it amazing. I loved those insane laterals, that's what made the coaster for me.

It'll be very interesting to see what happens next... They specifically called out a new element so I have to imagine that the re-tracking is something related to this...

Or they're tearing it down for an AquaTrax. I'd be fine either way.

I thought Legend was pretty good myself when I rode it this past summer. It was bit on the rough side but I've been on a lot worse (Hurler, Roar), plus the ride had an awesome layout.

I never seen people love on the Legend like you guys. All I ever hear from others is that it is too rough. It's nice to see that others enjoy it also

Are they maybe going for a Mexican Medusa-esque inversion drop?

Doubtful since nearby Kentucky Kingdom is doing the same thing.

Wouldn't KK's RMC actually make HW more likely to do a "Mexican Medusa-esque inversion drop?" I honestly can't even speculate on what will happen, but if HW opens with something that can compete with KK's RMC, it could lead more people to keep going to HW rather than KK. Plus, with KK's semi-lackluster announcement (at least when you look at it in terms of teaser campaigns that make you want to pull your hair out *cough*Holiday World*cough*) and then put HW's announcement after the new year, HW's announcement will be fresher in people's minds than KK's.

I personally think it's awesome they are doing whatever this is to The Legend. Yes it's always been an amazing coaster, but when you look at doing any MAJOR changes to any of the three woodies it seems like the wise choice. The Raven is almost historical in significance. It's a symbol of a large shift in the park towards what it is today. It's what helped get the park to where it is now in terms of coasters.... It helped put them on the map. The Voyage was Will's last. It was his baby all the way. It broke all the rules. Again it symbolizes a major shift forward for the park. It brought us a whole new holiday with some amazing rides and really excelled the park forward. It would be hard to go back and make any major major major changes to those two... Aside from track work or adding a small element here or there. However I believe The Legend was kind of Leah's baby. Wasn't it a birthday gift of sorts to her? And also symbolizes her being the "middle" child? (I think it's Leah, might be her sister, they are both so awesome it doesn't really matter). I could SO see her making her own special mark with this ride and making it really something very very special (not that it isn't already but you get the point). Honestly I can't even begin to guess what they would be doing to it. Last year oddly in some respects it was a bit easier to guess. We pretty much all agreed it was going to be a coaster of some kind and that it would be steel. This year all we have is a "wish list" from the coaster cats, a photo of so,e track being lifted away, and a strong hint at a new element somewhere on something. You really have to hand it to Holiday World... We all thought we would get very very minor improvements this year, none of us thought they would have us guessing.... Yet another year in a row... As to what the heck is going on. Only Holiday World can get the theme park lover community excited like this, about something like this. I have ZERO worries that whatever they are doing it's going to be awesome for them, the guests, and their fans. I'm just here for the amazing ride they put everyone on! (Pun intended) and am incredibly thankful they always always always make their fans apart of the excitement and fun.

The new element is most certainly "Holidogium"

Jeez man, a bit too much fanboying, per se? Holiday World does a fine job with their park, but they do make mistakes and not everything they do is a good decision. For instance, adding the trim brakes on Voyage earlier this year was not something that would be deemed "awesome" by Holiday World's fans as they essentially neutered what used to be one of the greatest wooden coasters of all time.

Posted

I think we can all understand the reasons for trimming Voyage. It's not something that needs defending or whining about, it was a simple necessity that fans need to come to terms with.

After my visit earlier this year I wasn't as impressed with Legend as I thought I'd be. I can certainly understand both why it has such ardant fans and why HW would focus on it for improvements. Lateral forces on a wooden coaster are a special taste that only a fairly small segment of the population really enjoy. I think you have to be small and/or young to really like them. For us bigger/older folks it just hurts after awhile.

It's generally a good layout though, but I'd trade less side slamming for a little more airtime. I'm not sure the first drop was the issue though...

I just don't want to see a token inversion. I'm still on the fence about some of the recent conversions. The crazy RMC's are fun, but a lot of the time I enjoy the classics even more.

I'm going to quote this every time someone brings this subject up.

Of course I'm a fanboy. You say that as if it's some bad word, but it isn't. Is that not why most of us are here? Because we are fans? I have been quite clear since I came here that I consider myself a Holiday World enthusiast more than a coast enthusiast. And I've always felt quite welcome. Not sure how what I said in anyway can be construed negatively at all. I'm a fanboy! So what?

Oh and of course they can and do make mistakes... But it's extreme let rare and when they do, they quickly fix it (remember Pilgrims Plunge... They didn't mess around with it for too many seasons or dump loads of money into something that was just not going to work how it was supposed to). As for the trim breaks, it ABSOLUTELY was the right decision. Coaster fans may not like it but personally I don't even really notice the change and it was necessary for the longitivtiy of the ride. When it comes to coasters alone, I have not personally seen them make mistakes. They know coasters very very well.

^ I think the word fanboy is more associated with someone who becomes so fixated on something that their bias can change their perception of things to always come out with their obsession being the most amazing thing ever. As you may be able to tell by my name "HWFan", I used to be a huge fanboy. I'm still a huge fan, but I'm not quite as obsessed/fixated on it. Here's a story that actually happened:

It was my first week working at a theme park. I see the director of operations walking up with the park president (I was already friends with the park president, so I at least knew one of them). The director of ops says, "ohhh, so this is the guy who wants to work at Holiday World, eh?" Later, we were able to laugh about it.

Anywayyyyyy, I was thinking about HW's expansion. With the Christmas, Halloween, and Fourth of July areas having little expansion, I wonder if HW would ever have them expand into each other. If Fourth of July had a new area built as part of the park's expansion plans (this would be a long way away of oh course), then Christmas and/or Halloween could move in. You could even keep some or all of the rides there and just retheme them. I think it could be a really fantastic option for their future. They could use that design firm (can't remember the name) to handle all of the cosmetic changes. Thoughts?

Everyone always seems to forget about Pilgrims Plunge. . .

^ What was so bad about Pilgrim's Plunge / Giraffica? I never had a chance to ride but I've been on Divertical and loved it. Pilgrim's Plunge looked to be Divertical without the coaster portion.

The ride itself was disappointing and a maintenance headache. The elevator was really the only fun part of the ride as the rest was a bland pre-lift section, boring drop, and underwhelming splashdown. Pilgrims Plunge would be closed for most (if not all) of the day, so many people didn't even get to ride it while it was still there. It really wasn't that bad of a ride, but it wasn't good one either.

^ Fair enough. Seems Intamin took notes and got it all right with Divertical because that ride is excellent! The pre-lift section is essentially a rapids ride, the coaster portion is a lot of fun, and the splashdown is suuuuuuuper wet.

I drove by Holiday World a little while ago on the way to the Santa Claus Land of Lights. I couldn't really see much from the road. I saw the piles of wood in the parking lot. I couldn't see if anything was going on in the Sparkler's old location.

Seems like more of Intamin's fault than HW's fault, seeing as how Intamin designed the ride which didn't live up to the expectations they sold.

So wait, I'm still confused.... Is it ok or not for me to be a Holiday World fanboy? Lol oh well I'm gonna be a fanboy anyway. Sure I can be a bit biased sometimes, but largely I'm being quite truthful and unbiased.

The problem comes when Holiday World announces they're building a B&M wing coaster and somebody says they're less than thrilled with that and you explode at them like they insulted your mother.

I don't believe I've ever done that.
