Six Flags Great Adventure (SFGAdv) Discussion Thread

However, that line looks really disappointing. No shade, minimal theming.

LOL What are you on about? The ride doesn't open until Memorial Day weekend, they're still working on the ride area.

Also have to share this amazing photo by Dug, also from the group, looking down the Metropolis midway toward the ride:

So thrilled this will be open for Holiday In the Park!

The video shows that each cycle will take about 5 minutes (including loading times) and its not a particularly large capacity ride. The picture shows the majority of the line has zero shade. Six Flags is primarily populated during the hottest times of the year.

I like shade. I think most people do. I don't understand why Six Flags management does not.

I'm not asking for Universal's Harry Potter style theming, but simply more of the canopy seen in the first photo. I understand they want to keep the sight-line open up front, so maybe they should have reconfigured more of the line to go around the back.

I get where you're coming from - I like shade too, but let's address a few things. For one, not a particularly high capacity ride? The gondola seats 40 people.

Secondly, the ride is testing in this video. I'm sure its not far off, but we don't know how long the ride cycle will be until it opens with riders.

Thirdly, to say this park is "primarily populated during the hottest months of the year" when this park is (and this ride will be) open 9 months out of the year, is really kind of reaching... I mean, personally I'll be riding this most often in Nov/Dec, and yeah that's just because I know that the park in the dead of summer is for suckers, but still. The park is really only HOT for 3 out of 9 months that its open. And not for nothing (since we're reaching) the wind caused by the ride while in operation acts a big giant fan on the queue below...

Also, let's keep in mind some of that queue in the front there is going to be for Flash Pass and those people are not going to have to wait as long as the standby queue.

I'm not saying you're wrong for feeling there should be more shade (maybe like the Cyborg and Skyscreamer queues that wrap around the ride?) but just playing devils advocate. I have a friend headed to the park now who is going to get some more up to date photos of the ride area and some better shots of the queue. I'll report back later.

Planning on taking a solo trip to the park this Friday! So far it's looking like it could be a bit stormy, but as long as it keeps the crowds away I'm happy . I'll definitely try to provide some photos as usual and if anyone happens to be around let me know! As long as the weather holds out I should be there all day and I'm hoping to do a good few rides on Ka and Toro since my girlfriend is not a fan of them so I don't get to ride them all the time .

Yep, it can close that early. It closed at 12:30PM on Sunday due to the weather.

If the forecast continues to look shaky come Friday, best thing you can do is follow the park on Twitter. They're pretty good about publishing any early closing times on there.

^If I can marathon on El Toro like I did Nitro during holiday in the park it will be worth it

Except when I visit I typically don't even arrive until closer to one, and the park is a 3 hour drive from where I live

I was actually joking about the noon thing. I thought I was being a little extreme, but apparently not!

To be fair, there were maybe fewer than 15 cars in the parking lot by that point (based on photos). I think it would've been wiser to just not open outright, but the park did that the previous weekend already, and, in the interest of not doing that on consecutive weekends, may have been a bit too optimistic that the weather would clear up.

Even with bad weather, I think they will be open most of the day on Friday. There are regular school trips, Music in the Parks competitions and possibly Physics Day as well (used to be every Friday in April and May). Maybe they won’t stay open until 9 if it storms since the school groups usually leave in the late afternoon.

I did end up taking a trip to the park today, and the weather was actually really nice. I made sure to marathon on Toro as much as I could before the park got somewhat busy . I will say that ride never gets old I guess I take it for granted a bit as it's at my home park and I've been riding it since it opened, but nonetheless by now everyone knows how great it is. I will say though I do think the turnaround needs to be retracked next. While I do enjoy the old school Woodie feeling on the airtime hills, that turnaround is starting to get a little painful. The other coasters were running well and the lines weren't too bad. Another random note is that the more I ride Batman this year the more I notice how welded up it is. Now I know ride maintenance and welding is normal, but Batman just looks like it's literally been welded together everywhere this year. I just hope this is a sign that the park is keeping up on its maintenance and not a sign that old age is starting to kick in. I remember towards the end of my beloved Scream Machines life it too required a lot of welding. In other news the finishing touches are being put on Wonder Woman with workers working on what appeared to be the lighting package today. All in all a good day although the lines for security are a bit outrageous this year I hope in the future it can be expanded to cut down on wait times as the time to get in the park is now way longer than most other parks I have been to. Oh and I almost forgot I finally decided to ride Cyborg today, decent ride it's very interesting to watch the ride move while you are in it. I'll be back next week for Wonder Woman and to get my PIN!!!

Hope you guys enjoy my trip reports! I know they aren't much, but I try to provide them as frequently as possible!

El Toro, looking beautiful as usual. Weird afterthought, I love watching the wood age every year

Having been on a decent amount of floorless coasters at this point, Bizzaro still remains one of my favorites and is very smooth

The required shot, unfortunately spiderman happened to swing by as I was taking this photo and his web got in the way

Always a fun and snappy invert, a ride on Batman was required. Notice the welding on the track though I see it on many rides, but none in particular as much as Batman

The final touches are being placed on Wonder Woman in preparation for the rides opening next week

Six flag's most explosive coaster is always a must ride and also my favorite B&M hyper

I find Green Lantern to provide the best rides in the back row surprisingly and it can actually be quite enjoyable, but I can never forgive it for replacing my beloved Scream Machine

IMG_20190517_135622.thumb.jpg.c21133b1c181fe0d349efe035bc3db10.jpg

I'm glad this classic is still here, although I do miss being able to rise right up past the top of Scream Machine

And finally, it looks like the repaint on Superman is complete

^It really is getting rather faded, but I think the clouds could play a part in making it look so faded in that picture, as there is no filter on it. It is a bit strange comparing pictures of 2006 El Toro to 2019 El Toro, thankfully the ride itself is still amazing
