coasterfreak101 Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 Or they could just leave it be, seeing as it's an extremely popular ride as-is.
woolandmammoth Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 Green Lantern was moved to Great Adventure from Kentucky Kingdom in a move it or lose it situation. I think Chang needed a home, and GADV needed a GASM replacement. They won't put money into it for new trains. Stand-ups are generally seen in hindsight as a bad idea. Very few (if any) are being built as of recent because after the gimmick-value is up, they are uncomfortable, unpopular, and awkward. GL is bordering closer to GASM's popularity every year. Except on busier days, GL is pretty much a walk on. TL;DR: They put it there to have something big to advertise while spending very little money. It's a parking lot coaster and will be relocated or removed before any large investment is made to make it suck less.
coasterfreak101 Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 ^Teach me your ways - I would love to hit Great Adventure on a day where Green Lantern is a walk-on!
B&MIntaminGCI Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 ^Teach me your ways - I would love to hit Great Adventure on a day where Green Lantern is a walk-on! 90% of the train was empty on Thursday, granted it was 39 degrees and misty

Yea, the way I understood it, GAdv management was basically told, look, you're gonna get GL or you're gonna get nothing at all. They actually briefly considering putting it somewhere in the back of the park (over past Skull Mountain), but they quickly realized that wasn't feasible.
boldikus Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 ^Teach me your ways - I would love to hit Great Adventure on a day where Green Lantern is a walk-on! I don't care much for the ride, so I wouldn't care if it had a short line, but in my experience the GP obviously eat up this gimmick because it almost ALWAYS has a long line when I am at the park. It's only been walk-on for me once when it was down and we happened to walk past right after it started running again. I get that people dislike the ride but I am of the firm belief that GL is NOT rough, just awkward because of the standing position factor. The first drop, vertical loop and the drop/pop after the MCBR are all fun, smooth, pleasant parts of this ride to me. The rest of the course I am always riding defensively to avoid my ears being boxed in. But if I am with someone who wants to ride, I will. I think another big factor in most of us disliking the ride is that we have 4 other decent-to-great B&Ms so we're understandably spoiled. As low as GL sits on my list of rides I like at this park, I'll take it over GASM, on which I took my last ride sometime in 1992.

I305forever Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 (edited) I just realized that all of this parks inverting coasters are superhero themed B&M coasters. Weird. Except for El Diablo of course Edited April 14, 2015 by I305forever
Nitro1118 Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 GL is a solid ride and way more of a crowd pleaser than GASM was. It is my least favorite B&M in the park, but as a replacement to what was probably the worst coaster in the park when it was removed, GL isn't too bad. I definitely check it out when the line is under 15min. My issue with the GL addition is has been our only major coaster addition in the last 10 years, while they essentially removed 5 coasters (both sides of Chiller, GASM and both sides of RT) in that timeframe. So, while GL was a direct replacement to GASM, it feels like they swapped it for all those coasters, and that leaves a sour taste in my mouth. Still, if you asked me exactly 10 years ago if I could have an Intamin pre-fab with no other brand new coasters for the next decade, I'd say yes and still stand by that. We are a spoiled fanbase so I struggle to complain too much about additions like GL and El Diablo. I just hope 2016 is a big year for us.

Having another coaster back by Skull Mountain would be interesting. Also whoever mentioned before about GL getting sit-down train, that sounds like a splendid idea but then Six Flags would have to remarked the ride due to the fact you can't say "Stand-Up to your fear" anymore. terdferg Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 Am I the only person who did not find it bad? Ive only been on mantis and GL, and found mantis to be a bit rougher, but both of them were perfectly fine.
El Toro_Ryan Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 Am I the only person who did not find it bad? Ive only been on mantis and GL, and found mantis to be a bit rougher, but both of them were perfectly fine. I'm with you. I've never found GL or Mantis rough or uncomfortable either really.
Superbatboy Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 I think GL compliments Gradv's line-up extremely well, and it looks beautiful sitting at the front gate IMO. When I visited in Oct it was one of the longer lines in the park, from what I remember it had a longer line than Nitro, Bizarro, and Kingda Ka.
Superbatboy Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 And is it on record anywhere how much Gradv paid for GL, just curious because wondering if the price for the coaster, the shipping expense, paint, refurbishing the trains was the same price as buying a brand new coaster.
woolandmammoth Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 I'm surprised to hear that everyone is seeing big lines for GL. I haven't seen the line past the stairs on an average day since it's debut season. I'll chalk it up to good luck I suppose! (Or bad luck, depends how you look at it). I honestly have no clue what kind of attraction Six Flags could build that would be a game changer in the park. If they removed Fort Independence (Already boarded up, ready to close) and the Grandstand (Has been boarded up for years now), they could legitimately have a coaster that runs along the lake at a safe enough distance for the township to sign off on it. I would love if it was some kind of Intan Giga, RMC woodie, etc. However, we all know it'd be a wingrider and in turn, be nothing more than a mantle-piece.
Vonni Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 ^^ To add to that, it was shipped twice. It went to SFGAm from SFKK. Then it landed at SFGAd for installation.
coasterbill Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 I would love if it was some kind of Intan Giga, RMC woodie, etc. However, we all know it'd be a wingrider and in turn, be nothing more than a mantle-piece. A Wingrider would be a perfect fit for this park. If you want hardcore intensity we already have one of the best wood coasters in the world, the world's tallest coaster and Batman which is an awesome example of 90's B&M snappiness. There's no shortage of intense coasters at the park and a wingrider would provide a different (and awesome) experience. Plus, we don't know anything about the parks future plans. We're just speculating.
michaellynn4 Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 I really couldn't care any less what could be coming up next. As long as it's a smart, worthwhile investment that satisfies a current need for the park, I'm game.

Knowing Great Adventure if they did get one it would be bigger and badder than Thunderbird cause thats Great Adventure's M.O.
I305forever Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 I just want them to get something that isn't a B&M. I'm not saying that I don't like them, but they already have five. Maybe something from S&S, Mack, or RMC will come to the park soon.

Superbatboy Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 Good luck getting Six Flags to spend 20+ million on a wing rider for Gradv. I think a Premier launch coaster or something RMC in the 10-15 million would make more sense. Weren't there rumors regarding Gradv and RMC swirling around last year? The rumors just kinda fizzled, wonder if maybe there was some truth to it but pushed back to '16 or '17

Password121 Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 ^Just like Magic Mountain thought they were working on a long, fast terrain coaster for their 2013 project. That's not to say this aptly named ride isn't a great ride, but from what I've heard, it leaves a lot to be desired and is terribly low capacity. Great Adventure already has enough of those (*cough Superman, Kingda Ka cough*).
Swede Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 They are going to replace Ka's camel hump with a loop bigger than YOLO
