Six Flags Great Adventure (SFGAdv) Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

Jeez you people are judgy af and a little rude.

We're not rude... if we were rude we'd do something like distract a ride operator to tell them they're not doing their job properly while being totally unqualified to actually do their job and having no idea what it actually entails.

I don't mean to pile on or keep the conversation but don't throw rocks when you live in a glass house.

In other news, Kingda Ka is back to three train operations. I believe Bizarro is as well.

I wish Bizarro would stop using the third train. They double stack every single time anyway so all the third train accomplishes is making you sit on the brake run for what feels like an eternity.

... then again since the park is removing El Toro in a few months according to Sfne1313's mom's friend's best friend's aunt's cousin I guess they could put you on it and it could finally start running efficiently.

I don't understand why Bizarro runs 3 trains. It usually never gets enough riders to justify having the extra train, and like Bill said, all it accomplishes is double and triple stacking on every dispatch. Also harming it is that Bizarro usually has the worst ops. in the park.

It's sad because back when Medusa was new I remember waiting all the way back to the entrance sign and they would just crank out trains. Trains would generally dispatch while there was a train in the dive loop... it was insane. Operations at this park were terrible back then but they really had it together on Medusa (and Scream Machine but it's an Arrow Looper and those always load quickly unless you're at Great Escape).

I've never seen a wait that long for the ride, even when it was Medusa, but I don't understand why more people don't ride it. Are people really so lazy that they refuse to walk past the fort? It's one of the best coasters in the park, and even on peak days it's usually a walk-on or station wait. It's the only ride where I'm happy to see the line going through the switchbacks.

It actually still gets like that on Fright Fest Saturdays. It rarely got that long in it's opening year but it could during Fright Fest or on Saturdays in the summer.

One of the main reasons they used to crank out the trains is because they used to actually staff the ride instead of just having the minimal requirement in the station. I really wish they'd reconsider that cost-cutting tactic. They don't need to have it like Dorney Park where there's an obscene amount of workers on Talon, but even just adding two more workers per major ride (Bizzaro, Nitro, El Toro, S:UF) in order to cover the second half of the train would help capacity immensely.

I remember back in 2006 when the ops on Nitro and El Toro would race down the sides of the train checking the restraints. I remember sometimes returning from a ride on El Toro and not even stacking, just coming right into the station because the other train dispatched already.

Ah, I see. I avoid the park on Saturdays, especially during Fright Fest. I can't imagine what the rest of the park looks like on days like that if Bizarro is actually getting a line.

I have visited SFFT twice; 2008 and 2013. On my 2008 visit they had 1 (YES,1!!) operator checking trains @ S:KC and she did not stack trains at all. She had a train half way up the lift when the other was coming through the transfer. It can be done with minimal staffing but depends on their drive and how much their management cares about efficiency. I'm not saying they should have just 1 operator checking restraints at any coaster, however this young lady @ SFFT proved that 1 CAN do it.

I also avoid the park on any Saturday. For Fright Fest I only go to the park on Friday nights and Columbus Day because I have seen enough pictures and reports from Saturday Fright Fest days to know I don't want to go. Reports that the main lot, overflow lot, Hurricane Harbor lot are all full with cars parked on the grass and seeing pictures of Nitro's line to the game stand near the arcade and Barman with an almost full queue doesn't sound like a fun day at the park.

^When I used to live right by the park, I would occasionally visit on a Saturday during Fright Fest for a couple hours just to see how crazy it can get. It's interesting to see how the park functions when near capacity. I always make sure I leave with plenty of time, though; I've been stuck in enough late-night-end-of-season parking lot traffic for a lifetime, thank you very much.

When Medusa was new, and for a few years, lines were always pretty lengthy, if not plain ol huge. Then one year it seemed everyone forgot about it and became a walk on ever since!

I already bash the park to bits every chance I get so I won't go into how absolutely crud the loading is now for it.

That said, I almost always head there for several rides in a row since waits are now non existent for it

I remember this like it was yesterday. I yearn for those days.

So I will be going to GADV for Coasters After Dark this Friday and am super excited. It looks to be right around 45 degrees during the night, is anyone familiar with GADVs weather policy when it comes to cold and running the coasters? It looks to stay above 40 the whole night so hopefully we will be alright. Also it's been a few years since I have been to GADV on a good day, is their re ride policy still as great as it used to be? I remember one time riding nitro like 15 times in a row at night without leaving my seat. Hopefully it's still like that because this looks to be a great night. Is it just me or is there almost zero advertisement for this event. If it wasn't for this forum I wouldn't have even known about it! Well if anyone else is going I will be there with my wife most likely wearing a Dollywood hat if anyone wants to chat about coasters for a bit.

^ They should run everything, their weather policy is 'we don't care', unless it's thunderstorms. There is zero rain in the forecast, so we should be fine. We're heading up w/ a small group it looks like. I have high hopes the cold temps will keep a lot of folks away, and yes, like last year they are hardly doing any advertisement for it. Last year was awesome. Re-rides galore, no lines anywhere. Walk-ons and re-rides all night. Marathoned Nitro 5xs in a row in the dark from 8:30-9pm last year, the last 3 not getting up from the last row. I really hope Toro is up and not running as crappy as everyones been reporting.

What's the over/under on the park having a soft opening for Looping Diablo @ CAD? LOL

I know it was reported they were shooting for a Memorial weekend opening, from the photos I saw from last weekend, they were sorting out the old Rolling Thunder queue, they've tested w/ water dummies, I can't imagine there is much else to do. Call me crazy but I could see the park running it with passholders this Friday night.

Yes... based on our experience last October their policy is "Hey look it's sleeting... LOL DISPATCH".

They don't care... at all.

^Any intentions of running 4?

Unfortunately, there are not. Until the state allows Zumanjaro and Ka to run simultaneously, Ka's 4th train is pretty much useless. Three trains is all the ride needs to get it's max throughput with Zumanjaro in the picture.
