P. 778: Pantherian project update!

Maybe Dick Kinzel doesn't want to have I305 higher than Millennium Force on coaster polls, along with not wanting I305 actaully taller than MF.

Even though Dick Kinzel is probably the worst micro-manager of all time, I don't think he decided to put the trims on that hill.

I can see the KD PR teams spin on this:

We have installed motion control devices at various points on the ride to give you more time to savour the ride experience.

They gave us El Toro, The Voyage, and SROS/Bizarro...

Compare the savage stapling you get on El Toro to the generous amount of room Liseberg gives you on Balder ON EVERY CYCLE and I think it's safe to say that America hates airtime.

It's not all bad, Phoenix still has a buzz bars, I like my coaster rides to be near death experiences.

Balder that was like El Toro times three without stapling.

OK... So the ride has OTSRs AND trims over what looked to be one of the few highlights of the ride as it might give some airtime?

Holy crap I am so unexcited for April now it isn't even funny... Oh well, hopefully it won't be too drastic, such as the trims over the last couple hills on SROS and ROS...

^Good call, you never know until you ride but my cause for optimism has been reduced by the sight of those trims.

I didn't know Expedition GeForce had trims, I'll find out in person in June / July whenever we get there.

^ Indeed. Follow the link below to see a pic of GeForce's trims. On that ride, they exist in 2 places.

Full POV of GeForce.

Obviously the trims occur in different spots than on I305. This is the only possible negative I see. Then again.. Apollo's Chariot has trims on it's 3rd hill and that never really affects the ride.

Just remember people...TPR's #1 steelie has trims as well... You never know until you ride.

Kyle "Don't treat this like it's 2012" Olson

That trim on 305 looks like a brake run!

The trims on GeForce won't be a problem late in the afternoon on a warm day. They're more of a problem when it's cold since they brake much harder then.

GeForce is just like any other Intamin ride: It runs best warm.

Posted

I knew the trim was coming, but it still makes my stomach turn when I actually see it installed on the coaster. Oh well, hopefully it won't be too noticeable when riding.

Posted

^ ha, your funny. That thing looks longer than most brake runs! And with it being magnetic I doubt it would not be noticeable. Just my .02 cents but I think you will easily be able to feel the trim every time.

Posted

I knew that was coming, but, then again, it should be going insanely fast during that part of the ride.

However, I know some Intamin rides have their trims removed (iSpeed and Kanonen I think).

Posted

That's my main concern - the length of the trims. Unlike some of the other intamin rides with trims its not just a short segment, its pretty long. But Maverick has the trims after the launch and the second half is still crazy intense, so we'll see.

Posted

That trim looks like the one they use to stop the train on Kingda Ka except it's on the uphill bit. What I'm worried about is that they might seriously slow the ride down for the rest of the course.

Posted

Well they start by adding all trims (just so that they can check the clearances during the pull-through), and when the testing begins they see if they need to remove any due to the section afterwards is to slow.

So in the end they might be forced to remove all of them, only time will tell...

(Here is hoping )
