Fooz Posted April 18, 2014 Posted April 18, 2014 ^^The radius is simply to small, that's all there is to it. http://www.ushsho.com/steelrollercoasterpollresults2013.htm
redfoot12 Posted April 18, 2014 Posted April 18, 2014 The good feedback for Banshee makes me excited for the possibility of a B&M inverted as KD's new coaster for next year.
Password121 Posted April 18, 2014 Posted April 18, 2014 Are we 100% sure KD is getting a new coaster next year? Carowinds is getting a B&M Giga that is probably around $30 million based off Leviathan, and CF seems to only get one big coaster per year recently .

Guess we'll see. If a new fairly big coaster is announced I'm very curious where it might go. KD and Carowinds each got their Intimidator coasters the same year in 2010. KD's next coaster doesn't necessarily have to be a $25-30 million Intamin or B&M beast either.
rcjp Posted April 18, 2014 Posted April 18, 2014 ^How much did I305 cost? If we follow the 2010 logic (when KD got a giga and carowinds a hyper) KD could get a hyper next year! Just kidding, but I'm looking forward to seeing what it might be. (if they actually get a new coaster)
Diamondbacker27 Posted April 18, 2014 Posted April 18, 2014 Why couldn't they? Kings Dominion will more than likely get a coaster next year. Considering they have a 5 year plan, that they try to meet.
Rollercoaster Rider Posted April 18, 2014 Posted April 18, 2014 Why couldn't they? Kings Dominion will more than likely get a coaster next year. Considering they have a 5 year plan, that they try to meet. I really don't see KD getting a coaster. I see them expanding the waterpark next year as that's the only area that hasn't been expanded on in the last few years (International Street, Old Virginia, Candy Apple Grove, Safari Village and Planet Snoopy have all been expanded and re-themed since 2007), has land for expansion (Behind Rebel Yell), and seems very outdated (Last slide was in 2007). I also wouldn't be surprised if they became Soak City next year.
CPSFMMCW Posted April 18, 2014 Posted April 18, 2014 I think a waterworks expansion will be in 2 years. Heres my idea for the next 3 years. 2015- coaster. GCI or B&M. If GCI, then they'll prob remove a woodie. If B&M, then I'm hoping for a hyper or invert. Hyper would be nice since it would provide a big difference between i305 and a B&M hyper. 2016- Waterworks expansion possibly with a conversion into soak city 2017- wonder mountains guardian style dark ride.

I agree with Rollercoaster Rider on this. I won't expect a new coaster until 2016 or later.
Lareson Posted April 18, 2014 Posted April 18, 2014 Yeah, I'm expecting just a water park expansion next year. That's really the only part of the park that hasn't been updated since Cedar Fair took over (2007 expansion was planned by the park before CF bought them,) expecting at least 2016 or 2017 before they receive a major coaster. I understand that CF is spending well around $145mil across the chain this year, including the FunTV addition, but don't see them adding another $25mil coaster along with Carowinds next year. While I don't think they'll be spending $145mil again next year, it'll probably around $100-120 million next year, so really not much wiggle room for another major coaster addition. Now I can see them adding one or two less than $15mil coasters next year in the chain, but not at KD.
alilstronger Posted April 18, 2014 Posted April 18, 2014 This park NEEDS a water park update. Theirs is very mediocre in my opinion. The only part I really enjoy is Pipeline Peak. Its really spread out and there seems to be LOTS of room to add new attractions.

CPSFMMCW Posted April 20, 2014 Posted April 20, 2014 Was at KD today. The park was fairly crowded, since its the day before Easter, but the lines weren't that bad. About 15-20 min for many coasters. Volcanos line is still outrageous. A queue isn't gonna change how long that line will get backed up. Flight if fear also had a pretty long line. Other than that, nothing too bad.
Password121 Posted April 21, 2014 Posted April 21, 2014 FoF seems much more intense to me than Jokers Jinx at SFA. Yes, the launch is slightly faster, but after the MCBR, FoF still seemed much more intense. How can this be? It's nearly stopped at the brakes.
aCoasterStory Posted April 21, 2014 Posted April 21, 2014 Planning to be at the park next Friday (5/2). Anybody ever go on a math/science day before? I'm planning to get there a little after lunch time. I figure the kiddos will be mostly over near the flagship rides (Volcano, i305, FoF, etc.), so I thought I'd hit up the woodies first. I would assume they would all be leaving around 2 or 3, which should leave a pretty dead park till closing. Does that sound reasonable? Is there something I'm missing or not taking into consideration? Thanks!

I think that is the difference from darkness to daylight. The fact that you can't see what is coming makes it feel that much more intense.
cfc Posted April 21, 2014 Posted April 21, 2014 ^I don't know. The inside of Flight of Fear is pretty well lit these days.

I had no problem seeing what's coming, but even with the MCBR, te second half still felt more intense than the Joker's second half.

Personally, I prefer the latter (even if it is a bit hit-or-miss when it comes to operations). Edited April 21, 2014 by cfc
coasterfreak101 Posted April 21, 2014 Posted April 21, 2014 Flight of Fear's second half is weak compared to Joker's. There's not even a competition between the two. FoF has a faster first half, but the second is just plain miserable.
mike541x Posted April 21, 2014 Posted April 21, 2014 FoF's MCBR is just as bad as Anaconda's. It feels like you're coming to a complete stop where in Joker's Jinx, it flies through the MCBR.
coasterbill Posted April 21, 2014 Posted April 21, 2014 I've always thought that Flight of Fear was underrated, and I'm surprised to hear about people thinking it's slow or shaky. I really don't know what's not to love about these rides.

But most of the time, it is. I know what a 5 year plan is, it is the planning of the parks future in the next 5 years. What your going to do with it in the next 5 years. From my understanding.
