Kings Island (KI) Discussion Thread

P. 829: Adventure Port themed area announced for 2023!

Recommended Posts

I mean, my favorite coaster is Millennium Force followed by one of the "lamest" RMCs (or so they say) so it's not like intense is my immediate go-to thing either I just find it odd that people talk about the giga so much when the park already has a tall, fast, rerideable coaster and an insane supporting tier. But when I look at KI's lineup, if I want to be laughing from stuff that's ridiculous and intense, I'd probably go for Flight of Fear (or maybe Mystic Timbers. honestly, Mystic Timbers may nullify my argument entirely. I've heard people say it's the best GCI, and if that's true then I'm probably completely wrong because GCI is pretty good at that whole "intense" thing).

Bill, I'm ashamed to say that I completely forgot that The Bat existed for a second there. Forgive my transgression. The Bat is awesome.

Considering Banshee now resides on its plot of land...and that it would probably cost $35 million to build (it was built “cheaply” for $20.5 million in 1999)...I can’t imagine Kings Island bringing Son of Beast back to life. BUT, in today’s day & age, given how reboots dominate Hollywood and nostalgia is more popular than ever, I can’t think of an addition the GP would eat up more. Especially if it was done correctly this time.

I can see the possibility of a new coaster being named Son of Beast, but I don't think for a minute it will be recreated. I also think that with Kings Island's three good wood offerings, with two of them being really good, that whenever the next roller coasters hits King's Island it won't be wooden.

With the same layout or modified? I'm sure it used the terrain in some way so I wouldn't think a close copy of the layout would be possible. I also think it would take a lot of convincing for people who remember the brutal ride and the injuries to overlook any similarities. It just seems like a bad idea to use that name on any type of a wooden coaster for marketing purposes. Bat is an exception, since the problem wasn't the ridership or enjoyment, but with the engineering flaws in the ride.

Beast sequel with RMC topper track - Possible? Yes. Likely? In my own opinion, no.

I was thinking a plausible RMC Topper/Hybrid combining prior RMC designs done with Outlaw Run, Steel Vengeance, and Wildfire and it being called "Revenge Of The Beast".

Less likely would be a more classic design done by GCI, and if it were GCI to take on the task, it could be that company's largest coaster to date if that were to happen. With the same name as above. Like a bad movie sequel/remake. (but not actually bad this time around)

Just a friendly reminder that Bat exists, it’s intense and it’s great.

I ride Bat everytime I go to KI, and it's one of the better Arrow Suspended coasters still in operation. But intense? Not exactly how I would describe it!

Now, on the other hand...

It's all subjective, but I think the majority of the non coaster enthusiasts consider Diamondback, Banshee, and Mystic Timbers pretty intense. I'd hate to be the type of enthusiast that needs more than that to consider a ride fun, thrilling, and intense. I'm not quite sure when 230 feet at 80 mph became obsolete, but I'm glad I haven't moved on. Then again, I may focus too much on enjoyment and appreciation rather than comparison. In a world where Millennium Force is lame I guess King's Island sucks.

I'll never understand people who can ride any coasters like those three Zach mentioned, and say they're not intense, or thrilling! I don't really have anything to add, because what he said is 100% how I feel about it.

Personally, I think KI is an awesome park, with a ton of fun coasters and rides, and a great place for kids as well! Plus, they have the best Amusement Park Halloween Haunt, in my opinion! I'm planning to take my kids and girlfriend there this year, for their first time, in what will probably be my only remaining coaster trip of the year. It's become an annual tradition, as it's SO great!

Or maybe "Son of Beast" could be a code-name for a possible Giga coming to KI?

I'm not trying to argue, but what's your logic other than slapping the name on any new coaster? I'd like to think so, but I don't see any indication of a giga. Then again, I don't look too much into teasers.

KI getting an RMC of any variety would pretty much solidify its lineup perfectly, maybe more so than a giga.

The trifecta of Diamondback as the huge, fun crowd-pleaser (that is awesome regardless of its lack of intensity), MT as a transition coaster that pretty much anyone can enjoy, from enthusiast down to kids who won't ride anything that goes upside down but wants to try something bigger, and whatever craziness RMC throws in fills that out with a more fast-paced focused experience that may not be as intimidating as Diamondback but gives it a run for its money in terms of thrill factor.

... don’t go in the shed...

They would not do that, waste of modern technology dubbing a 70s coaster in steel. This is Kings Island, they will do better than that.

No, I'm pretty sure I'm on to something. You know how Beast is better at night? Well, it's always going to be night on Steel Beast. They'll just get rid of the sun in that area of the park and instead have a moon, so as you walk over to Steel Beast it becomes night and your ride is awesome.

You know, I hadn't thought that the barrel rolls might be the only thing outside the shed, but it makes so much sense. Now, they're teasing the number 5, which clearly is the 5th century BCE. So that giant shed with the outside barrel rolls will be enclosed in an even more giant wooden horse. What's in the in the shed that is also inside the horse? Steel Beast, the coaster you've always loved, now with more steel and more barrels rolls!

If you consider Knott's a theme park, then definitely!

Also, speaking of Haunt because I've been thinking about it a lot lately and it's coming up soon....

Just noticed the Haunt site is up and it looks like there is one new maze, two new scare zones, and one new show. Looks like CarnEvil is gone, so I'm not sure if the new maze (Chaos) is replacing it in location or if Chaos will be somewhere else. We actually liked CarnEvil, but I guess it was one of the oldest mazes?

Sad that the vampire show is going away, hoping that the new show (Haunted Homecoming) will be just as great.

So the trip to the park that was supposed to be in July that had to unfortunately postponed is set for next weekend. There a couple questions I have to ask though. Which coasters are must night rides other than the obvious one? If we have FL+ can we ask for front row rides? Lines aren't going to be an issue as we're going to buy FL+ it's just the weather were concerned about.
