COASTER FREAK 11 Posted February 12, 2013 Posted February 12, 2013 Anyone else notice that the roller coaster at NYNY is called "The Roller Coaster" and this El Loco is called "El Loco"..where's the creativity in Vegas? Not that I'm any less excited for it. If you have noticed anything added to Adventuredome has the stock name of the ride, Chaos, Inverter, Disk-O, Sling Shot, Frog Hopper, El Loco. Also I will always call the "Roller Coaster" "Manhattan Express" even some of the signs around still say the original name. Especially the big neon sign in the casino. Even another neat fact, Big Shot at the Stratosphere was going to be called Space Shot until the name was changed at the last minute before the tower opened. And even more ironic, the new Observation Wheel being built behind Harrah's is named "High Roller" which was the name of the now defunct roller coaster that was on top of the Stratosphere. Why did the change the name? I never even realized that it wasn't still Manhattan Express. lol
Condor Posted February 12, 2013 Posted February 12, 2013 Creativity left Vegas in the 1990s. Once MGM bought up the Mandalay properties and Harrahs expanded to compete, every hotel, restaurant, club, and attraction has been a derivative of the same idea.
Jew Posted February 12, 2013 Posted February 12, 2013 Creativity left Vegas in the 1990s. Once MGM bought up the Mandalay properties and Harrahs expanded to compete, every hotel, restaurant, club, and attraction has been a derivative of the same idea. Pretty much. They changed the name when they de-themed the NYNY casino floor to be yet another bland, err I mean "modern," looking casino.
singemfrc Posted February 12, 2013 Posted February 12, 2013 It used to better? I was just there for the first time and I thought their theming was some of the best on the strip. Coaster aside, NYNY was my favorite casino of the dozen or so I visited.
bert425 Posted February 12, 2013 Posted February 12, 2013 I'd say "Paris" has best theming on the strip. tho Flaming's "Margaritaville" Casino is quite nice too. We're staying in CC for NASCAR weekend in about 4 weeks (first time we've ever stayed at this property). . I'll make a point of going into Adventuredome and taking pics, if anything new has gone in by then.
Double0Kevin Posted February 12, 2013 Posted February 12, 2013 It used to better? I was just there for the first time and I thought their theming was some of the best on the strip. Coaster aside, NYNY was my favorite casino of the dozen or so I visited. It used to be themed to central park with fake trees and all that. I think there was a little creek that went through too. Luxor used to be pretty awesome, it had some Egyptian themed rides and other cool stuff to look at. MGM used to be themed to the Wizard of Oz (thus it's emerald color scheme). I caught the tail end of the theme craze in 2004, some things were still around but it was clear that theming was taking a hike. I like the modern style of casinos, but it works better in a hotel that was designed that way from the get go, like Cosmopolitan. The only hotel that was successful (in my eyes) making itself modern without looking half done us Planet Hollywood. There is very little there that still looks like the Aladdin. Back on topic, how do you guys feel about the 4 person cars (with lap bars only) like Steel Hawg rather than the 8 person cars like Green Lantern? I've seen the park be pretty busy in the past, but overall I can see the the 4 person cars being enough.
disturboed Posted February 13, 2013 Posted February 13, 2013 ^ I thought Green Lantern was actually a larger version of the El Loco to accommodate the 8 person cars. Space is probably the answer there.
Mr Stratosphere Posted February 13, 2013 Posted February 13, 2013 I do not think capacity will be an issue here, the employees that work on the rides are very good at keeping lines moving. Come to the park when they are running two trains on Canyon Blaster, we are talking 27-33 second dispatches.
Mr Stratosphere Posted February 16, 2013 Posted February 16, 2013 Hey everyone here's a quick update from The Adventuredome today. Work continues on the dismantling of Rim Runner. A lot of the debris in the splashdown pool have been removed since last week. The station's entrance and exits have been fenced off. Demolition of the trough looks to be beginning at the start of the ride right after the station. So the first of the rock work has met it's demise. Elsewhere in the park, Canyon Blaster's second train is back on the track in the transfer table and looks better than ever. Cannot snap a clear photo of it since its tucked aside. The ride is running phenomenally well! The rest of the park is getting paint touched up everywhere, most if not all of the railings and queue railings have been reprinted and look great. I love the TLC this park is getting! Short update today, hope you all like these! The treads from the conveyor belts have been removed from the station A lot of the debris in the splashdown have been removed since last week The ride's exit has now been fenced off. The first of the rock work has met it's demise but this is next to the trough right after the station. So this removal makes sense. Work continuing in the station. Rim Runner's station has now been fenced off as well. This is the area that the rock work has been removed. In the "Passage of Time" area of the park.
Double0Kevin Posted February 16, 2013 Posted February 16, 2013 ^ Thanks for the update. Great to see them moving quickly on all of this. It will be interesting to see how much more open the dome is with Rim Runner gone. It always seemed to take up a lot of room.
Mr Stratosphere Posted February 16, 2013 Posted February 16, 2013 I was actually able to get a partial view of the train. It looks great!!
Double0Kevin Posted March 5, 2013 Posted March 5, 2013 The park just posted this photo on their Facebook. Looks like they aren't wasting any time on getting the area ready for El Loco.
chadster Posted March 5, 2013 Posted March 5, 2013 I wonder what the odds are that they will poke a hole in the floor with that thing? Anyone care to drop my the MGM and find out?
thepoint4life23 Posted March 5, 2013 Posted March 5, 2013 I will be going to vegas next week and would like to get on the two roller coaster the one at new york new york, and if i can Canyon Blaster But from the look of the picture it does not look like it is open. Is that right ? If it is open i can just pay for one right i dont have to pay for a ticket to get in to the dome or anything like that right
DougMJr Posted March 5, 2013 Posted March 5, 2013 ^You can purchase ride credits or an all day wristband. If I recall correctly.
SharkTums Posted March 5, 2013 Posted March 5, 2013 I wonder what the odds are that they will poke a hole in the floor with that thing? Anyone care to drop my the MGM and find out? I don't think I'd want to park in that lot under Adventuredome right now!
BeemerBoy Posted March 5, 2013 Posted March 5, 2013 $5 to anyone willing to persuade the demolition crew to not stop.

Kyle Coleman Posted March 5, 2013 Posted March 5, 2013 If you have a car desperado out at primm is worth the 40 or so minute drive out there.
thepoint4life23 Posted March 5, 2013 Posted March 5, 2013 Thanks Guys. I will not have car, but if all goes well i will be taking a taxi to the dome. from the other end of the strip.
Top Thrill Dragster Posted March 5, 2013 Posted March 5, 2013 ^Las Vegas has the Deuce/SDX Bus. An all day pass is $8 and they run very frequently. I can only imagine what a taxi will cost in Vegas. http://www.rtcsnv.com/transit/routes-maps-schedules/ It took me no more than 15 mins to go from the New York New York to Circus Circus.
singemfrc Posted March 6, 2013 Posted March 6, 2013 Actually when I was there in January, taxi fares werent bad. However you were right to begin with, The SDX is probably the way to go. The Deuce works too, but is significantly slower due to all the stops.
Gnome Posted March 6, 2013 Posted March 6, 2013 El Loco's are cool and all but I still think they would have been better off with a 14 inversion euro fighter, amarite?
Double0Kevin Posted March 8, 2013 Posted March 8, 2013 ^ Yeah... No. I think to try and stick with the thrilling, yet family friendly vibe, it's best to stick with something like and El Loco and not a 14 Inversion Eurofighter. I'm personally stoked for El Loco. I love the Adventuredome and this seems like an excellent addition.
Mr Stratosphere Posted March 14, 2013 Posted March 14, 2013 I plan on doing a photo update this weekend on the progression of Rim Runner's dismantling, all that I can report is that two of the three boats are no longer sitting out back, the three colored boats are all that remain. The two white boats are no where to be found, I assume they have been disposed of as they looked to be in rough shape. All that is left is the Yellow, Blue and Red boats.
