Blnkgttrst
This is terrible but, Â you have to laugh. Ride collapses and no one bats an eye. They just calmly go to try and release them.

bgeguy
Hi, I already showed my good friend Gordon Johnston at the traveling carnival with Johnston Amusements, LLC video about accident. Gordon told me then I tell you what Gordon say.  Oh, sound awful that is not safe for the ride without a inspected due set up. Reminder to check the sweep behind the crazy surf that make sure to get tight with bolt and nut. to keep tight with the wrench after you guys already set up then don't forget to put bolt on the sweep and keep tight on. They don't know why is ride collapsed? the sweep is loose without bolt and nut tight by wrench. Thank you.  Which is the sweep on front of the wall or back of the wall?  Q. Do you know the double weight sweep on background of the ride?  A. Crazy Surf, Crazy Wave and Gee-Wizz.  Q. Do you know the double weight sweep on front of the ride with behind the seat?  A. Moby Dick, Avalanche, Crazy Bus, Submarine, Fire Chief, Crazy Plane, Etc.  Q. Do you know the single weight sweep on front of ride ride with behind the seat?  A. Rainbow, Ali Baba, 1001 Nachts, Ocean Trip, Etc.  I believe that one was loose bolt from sweep and ride is collapse down due sweep faster than nothing. What? Â Â Dude, that is not funny at ALL! There are people that were on that ride that couldv'e been killed or seriously injured for life.

Rideslover
Another reason I dont ride parking lot carney rides.  The traveling carnival with Johnston Amusements is coming to the Redwood Acres Fair in Eureka, CA and you can visit to see the Crazy Surf, Yo-Yo, Gravitron, Zipper, Sizzler, Tilt-A-Whirl, Ring-Of-Fire, Scooters, Tornado, Ferris Wheel and lot of more.  Johnston Amusements schedule.  May 2008 at the Albee Stadium Festival in Eureka, CA as just youth relay for life.  June 2008 at the Rodeo & Parade Day in McKinleyville, CA.  June 2008 at the Redwood Acres Fair in Eureka, CA was close to my house in McKinleyville, CA.  July 2008 at the Boardwalk in Eureka, CA for the 4th of July.  July 2008 at the Fortuna Rodeo & Parade in Fortuna, CA about 10 miles to Eureka, CA.  July 2008 at the Curry County Fair in Gold Beach, Oregon about 110 miles north to Eureka, CA.  August 2008 at the Del Norte County Fair in Crescent City about 75 miles to Eureka, CA.  August 2008 at the Humboldt County Fair in Ferndale, CA about 8 miles to Eureka, CA.  August 2008 at the Festival in Hayfork, CA.  September 2008. at the North County Fair in Arcata, CA about 8 miles to Eureka, CA.  I believe the Johnston Amusements love the place in the northern humboldt county.  I want to tell I'm apologized to you about posted a bad spell. can you help me to find a website about correct spell but only I got problem with the "SpellCheck" don't open?  What is mean?  phpSpell only supports one of the following browsers: Opera 6+, Netscape 6+, Mozilla 1+, Internet Explorer 4+, Safari  I have the Opera and Mozilla but I don't know what wrong with my internet?  Please let me know, Thank you  Larry
Woogle
For once I can post a decent reply. Â I'm from South Africa and live about 30 minutes drive away. This incident was on the news a few days ago. The ride is not a travelling carnie ride, but an indoor ride at a very reputable casino complex. The ride is not as high as the Crazy Wave for instance. The official report on the accident also said that the ride fell 1.5 meters. 2 people actually got neck injuries, but it seems the others were fine. A bit shaken, but otherwise okay. The ride has apparently been inspected 7 days prior to the accident. Â This was also the first "serious" accident in ride history in probably about 20 years for this country. cfc
^Thanks for the clarification and extra information. It was hard to tell what sort of venue we were looking at on the video.
Bruno Lancetti
The reported accident is not the first of its kind for this sort of ride!!! In the past stress analysis and calculation report on the arms of this ride where find not correct with a couple of manufacturers...!!! Â Sometimes behind a cheap ride... there are too many "missing reasons" including calculations, quality of steel, etc.!!! Having an inspection 7 days before is not enough in this way because a crack on steel (...or bolts) is not viewable without an ultrasonic and/or magnetic inspection of all critical welds...!!! Dleo
Last inspection was 7 days before the accident! What the... Aren't rides like this inspected on a daily basis before opening?!?
texcoaster
Last inspection was 7 days before the accident! What the... Aren't rides like this inspected on a daily basis before opening?!? Â I think you're mistaking "inspection" by the park with "official inspection" by some authority not related to the park. Â The way I read it, there was some sort of an official inspection 7 days before, but I'm sure the park inspects it each day.

ScubaSteve442
I was wondering if the ride operator hit the E-stop, or was there something in the ride system that stopped the ride automatically when the structural failure occured. Â I'm thinking E-stop, as the lights went out, and an E-stop typically cuts all power. Â If that's the case (Op hit E-stop), then he should be commended for such a rapid reaction, as the riders would have been more seriously hurt if the ride continued to operate with only one arm attatched to the ride gondola. BRTeller
I trust new carnival rides, way more the amusement park ones. People don't seem to understand why they are more safe, at least most of them.  If you are smart and know its a big name show, then the rides are all going to be much safer then any amusement park. Those rides are put up and taken down, state inspected each week. In the United States at least. Which is way more then any amusement park. They are re greased, and cannot be ran in less if everything is perfect. No broken seats or anything. If a amusement park has a broken seat, they but orange tape on it, till it is fixed.  Now if you go to a carnival ride company, and are to lazy to look them up before you go to a traveling carnival, then you don't know what your doing. If there's no information on it, then you really should not go to that show operator. I know a lot of people, threw family, that own big shows. I go and show owners my models, etc. I'm friends with people that have been doing this for more then 30 years. So I know if its a respected name, you have nothing to worry about.  Carnival / Fair rides are much better anyways, then almost any amusement park ride, as they are better kept, and they are more greased. I just wished some people didn't just assume these things.  Carnival rides have much better standards then amusement rides, becuase of this level of fear towards them. You can't go into a amusement park, at least most of them. To ride a Zipper, Spin Out, Freak Out (Freak Out, is much better then a normal Claw, or whatever you want to call it). So let your selfs miss out, becuase flats at Amusement parks, suck. I witnessed my self, a little girl at SFA fly out of the seat on the octopus. Ride operators didn't even notice it, checked restraints, didn't check height, and didn't notice she had her legs crossed. It took screaming people for them to notice! So you can think what you want.  I'm glad everyone is ok, and it is a shame, becuase then it lets more people think these things. But maybe if I let a few people understand what I'm saying I feel better.  -Brandon (Ranting) Teller  PS - Most Amusement park rides do not inspect everything each day, they normally look at a couple things, at most and test it. At most parks at least.
