BigBomer Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 I'm actually a really big fan of this new paint job! If you would have asked me before I saw the new colors I would have said leave it black, but this looks better!
Koasterking48 Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 PureCoaster claims to have heard a rumor that the coaster may be given a new football sounding name like Touchdown, and colors to possible fit right in with the San Francisco 49ers. I sure as hell hope this name is just a stupid rumor followed by some dumb fanboy-created website. I name like "Touchdown" would not be much of an improvement from Flight Deck IMO. If they end up changing the name for the 49ers, at least come up with a better name than that. Â On the other hand, the red sure does look good on Flight Deck!
tarheel1231 Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 Technically, the park already has a 49er-themed coaster (Goldstriker). I would leave the name as it is.
XYZ Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 Flight Deck is looking amazing from the new color scheme! Â Technically, the park already has a 49er-themed coaster (Goldstriker). I would leave the name as it is. Â Technically, Gold Striker is not 49-er themed.

I would leave the name as it is.  Technically, Gold Striker is not 49-er themed.  Sure it is: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/49er. I guess "technically" they do not reference the 1849 gold rush itself, but that is being nitpicky, clearly they are referring to gold rushes in general and obviously give a nod to the most famous one, being in California after all.
NAMTABSFGAm Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 Technically, Touchdown could also refer to a plane touching down

MFJorts Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 Right, the football team is based on the 1849 gold rush as well.

Rollercoaster Rider Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 Maybe they could rename it Stampede? It works with the 49ers theme or not for Legal reasons and I read on a site (I might get in trouble if I post it) that Gold Striker was going to be called Santa Clara Stampede.
laqueefa Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 From CGA's Facebook page: Â 300 new feet of track being laid on The Grizzly. Just a part of everything being done for 2014.

robman Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 Just an added note, it's GCI who rebuilt that section of track.
Vonni Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 I'm still not sure why CGA did not remove Grizzly to be replaced by Gold Striker. I still think that would have been a better plan.
Lareson Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 Cedar Fair is fixing quite a few of the KECO/Paramount-built wooden coasters with GCI. Good to see that they're willing to put work into wooden coasters that haven't exactly been in great shape the past few years. I know with what they're doing with Hurler at Carowinds, the trim brake at the bottom of the 1st drop is being removed since GCI re-profiled the turn after the drop. Â Now all we need is new trains. If Six Flags is willing to spend the money on replacing Morgan trains (even if Le Monstre had a crap job of the PTC trains being installed) then I can't imagine why CF wouldn't since that's the only wooden coaster in the chain that has those Morgan trains. Unless they're planning on bringing the Gerstlauer trains from Son of Beast out west, I can't see why they wouldn't buy a new set of PTC trains, especially with the weird seat belt config going on with it now.
dannyboy13 Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 The problem is that Grizzly, smooth or not, is just kind of boring. Now that Goldstriker is there, they could use the space that Grizzly and Demon occupies for something MUCH better. Demon will always hold a special place in my heart (first ride I ever went on that goes upside down), but I sure wouldn't mind it being replaced with something state of the art.
jray21 Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 The thing with Grizzly is that even though the height requirement is 48" it's still great for families. When I was there last, it was pretty busy with younger kids and parents. They all seemed to love having a 'big ride' that wasn't extreme in any way. While it's nothing close to amazing, it's a great easy ride for kids and parents.

coasterbill Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 If a ride is still popular, why remove it?
Flagg O'Dim Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 Ready for some Haunt news in February? CGA applied for a permit yesterday to build a new 4,500-square-foot structure for Haunt: Â Construct new 4,500 sq.ft. metal building for Haunt event. During non-event dates, bldg would be used for storage. 3rd party structural engineering services requested. New building # of 366 requested. Â http://smartpermit.santaclaraca.gov/tm_bin/tmw_cmd.pl?tmw_cmd=StatusViewCase&shl_caseno=BLD2014-34147 Â Good to see that they're getting a head start. Hopefully this new maze (if that's what it is) will be in a more finished state by opening night (Zombie High, anyone?).
rolercstrluvr Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 Well, it looks like they've been up to a lot of stuff during this off-season. They have laid down 300 ft of new wood on Grizzly.
